Unfortunately, I misplaced the info and the original email with the contributors name. I am now (Nov 2006) posting the information as it was a pending file in my to do directory. Cadet James A. Creed, of Lancaster, N.Y., was killed near here last night: when his army training plane crashed during a routine flight. He was stationed at Cochran field.

L. Myrle Durhar Lake, Corry, against Victor Lake, New York City, alleging desertion;

Edna F. Mentley, 726 French St., against Leroy Mentley, 1132 Chestnut st., desertion.

John Chojnacki, forty-five, of 2306 StateSt. Was charged Monday afternoon with the theft of a fur coat valued at $146. Detective Sergeants Jack Reagan and Paul Schaaf and Patrolman William McKinley, who arrested Chojancki Sunday, recovered the coat.

Mrs. R. W. Turek from whose home, at 1104 Parade st., the coat was stolen last Friday, charged Chojnacki with burglary. Chojnacki was held on a warrant issued by Alderman William Schabacker.

The last session of county naturalization court is being held at the court house Tuesday. Fifteen aliens were to be examined for their final papers with Judge J. Orin Waite presiding. Frank Pompi, federal examiner, was in charge of the questioning. Two years ago the federal courts took over this function and today’s session in county court was to clean up cases deferred from previous sessions.

Sixteen naturalized citizens took the oath of allegiance before Judge F.P. Schoonmaker in a special session of federal court here today.

Caroline Moskalczyk, 2711 Perry St.; Lawrence Singer, 3615 Amhurst Rd.;Elizabeth Bokshan, R.D. 6 Erie;Nicholas Lambros, Uniion City; Mary Havran, R.D.1 McKean; Mary Gocal, Union City; Gertrude Burkett, R.D.1 NorthEast; Lillian Alice Mae Scallen, R.D.1 Harborcreek, and Wasyl Bayus, Albion.

Seven youths, who enlisted in the U>S> Navy here, were inducted at Buffalo, N.Y., today and are now subject to call.

All seventeen, they are Kenneth R. Kraver, 3506 Cherry St.; Cornelius A. Anderson, 249 E. 2^nd St.; James E. Vieira, 1064 W. 4^th St.; John Daugherty, 2407 Loveland Ave.; George T. Gilmore, JR.; and William E. Meyer, both of North East; Norman Valesky, Jamestown, PA.; and Philo L. Gordon, Guys Mills.

Joseph Vietz, 1026 Cascade St., is convalescing at home from burns received in an explosion Sunday. He was heating a can of tomato soup in a pan of hot water when the can exploded, showering the contents and hot water over Vietz. The victim is under the care of Dr. Edward S. Kemble.

Ripley, N.Y., Jan. 5,--- Word of the first casualty in the long list of Ripley men who have entered the service came on Sunday when a cable came to Mr. And Mrs. J. W. Burrows informing them of the death of their son, J. E. Burrows, C.M.I-c, in England from pneumonia.

The message was brief, stating he was buried in an American Military cemetery at Brockwood.

He enlisted on Sept. 2, 1942, and arrived in

England

Dec 11. Mr. Burrows was 40 years of age and is survived by his wife, Helen; his parents, Mr. And Mrs. J. W. Burrows; and one brother, Robert Burrows of TX.

The Church Circle Club of the Methodist Church will hold its annual meeting on Wensday, January 7, at the home of Miss May Rickenbrode. Election of officers will be held. A picnic dinner will be served at noon.

At the annual meeting of the East Ripley Cemetery Association the following officers were elected for the coming year; President, Viola Jones; secretary, Harold Barden; treasurer, Clarence L. Barden.

The O. S. Morehouse farm, E. Main Rd., has been sold to Howard Northup of Westfield who took possession January 1. Mr. Morehouse and family will make their home in Jamestown.

Clarence Ellis from Kort Knox, KY., is home on a short furlough. Midshipman R. E. Peck, New York City, is spending his hurlough with his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Edwin Peck, N. State St.

Deputy Coroner Frank St. George was to call an inquest in the court house this afternoon into the death of Donald Szulinski, thirteen, who lived at 247 E. 12^th St.

The boy was killed Dec. 16 when struck by a Nickel Plate passenger train at 20^th and Ash Sts. His cousin, John Brzeinski, 16, 525 E. 12^th St., escaped a similar fate by beating the train over the crossing, police investigation revealed.

Mrs. Minnie S. Miller, forty, mother of six children was burned to death at nearby Gibraltar Monday when a fire of undetermined origin destroyed her home.

Three children Mary, 14; Betty Jean, 11; and Esther, 9 escaped. They ran to the home of a neighbor to turn in an alarm while their mother re-entered the house to save some money she had hidden in the kitchen.

The children said they saw her entering the back door of the flaming house. Her body ws found in the basement several hours later by firemen.

Her jusband, Charles F. Miller, 48, employed as a guard at the Birdsboro Foundry and Supply co., had left the house before the fire broke out.
