This is a timeline version of the family and includes alternate spellings of the surname to include Weiler, Wheeler, Willer, and Wiler. 1825/27  Joseph (Shett) Weiler is born in Prussia.  Joseph could have possibly been born on 19-Oct-1827 in Koengen, of the district of Esslingen, Prussia.   He applied to enter America in May of 1854.

1832/34  Madeleine Bussinger is born to Johann Bussinger and his wife Madeleine in Switzerland .  She will later marry Joseph Weiler around 1856 in Canada.   She is Joseph’s first known wife.

1839       (James) Alexander Kerr is born in Renfrewshire, Paisley, Scotland to William Kerr and Mary Martin Kerr.  He will later marry Sarah Jane Sharman and they will become the parents of Elizabeth Margaret Kerr who will later marry Henry Frank Wiler in 1912.

1840   12-Dec.   Joseph Pfundstein is born.   He will later marry Catherine Barbara Wachter.  One of their children, Frances Pfundstein, will marry August J. Wiler Jr.

1843       4-Aug. Margaret Mattis, Joseph’s third known wife is born in Switzerland.  Her father is John Mattis.   She will be called Margaret Mattis Lightener Weiler Wheeler in her lifetime.

1850   15-Jul.  Caroline Sparrow is born to George Sparrow and Catherine Ballenbrook in England.   She will later marry John Weiler born 2-Jul-1857 son of Joseph Weiler and Magdalena Bushinger.

1852       27-Sep.  Joseph Weiler arrives in New York, NY aboard a ship named the Havre.  He departed from Bavaria to Le Havre, France to America.  He is 25 years old…..OR….. 9-Aug-1854.   Joseph Weiler arrives in New York, NY aboard a ship named the Caroley Magnus.  He departed from Wurttenburg to Le Havre, France to America.   He is 27 years old and his occupation is listed as farmer.  Also listed on the ship is an Alois Weiler, a male, who died on the voyage.

1853   2-Jun.   Madeleine Bussinger, later to become Joseph Weiler’s first known wife, arrives in New York, NY aboard the Prussian Bark Adeline, Mastered by H. Kleinmetz from Antwerp.   She is 19 years old.  Along with her are her Father Johann Bussinger 54, her Mother Madeleine Bussinger 49, her brother Mathias 18, and her sisters Apolonia 15, and Josepha 28.

1854       4-Jun.   Catherine Barbara Wachter is born in Reinpfalz, Germany to Franz Peter Wachter and Frances (?) Wachter.  She will later marry Joseph Pfundstein and one of their children, Frances Pfundstein will marry August J. Wiler Jr.

1856       Apolonia Weiler, Joseph and Magdalena's first known child is born in Canada .  Joseph is 30 and Magdalena is 23.

1857  Joseph is 31 and Magdalena is 24.

1859       Theresia Weiler, Joseph and Magdalena’s third known child is born in New York.  Joseph is 33 and Magdalena is 26.

1860       19-Jun.  According to the 1860 US Census Joseph Weiler and  Madeleine Bussinger daughter of Johann Bussinger and Madeleine Bussinger live in Buffalo Township, Ward 6, Erie County, New York .   In the House are Joseph 32, Magdelena 27, Apolonia 4, John 3, and Theresia 1.  Joseph is a Laborer.  

19-Jun.  According to the 1860 US Census

John Bussinger and Madeleine Bussinger live in Buffalo Township, Ward 6, Erie County, New York (just three dwellings away from the Weiler’s).  In the House are John 61 and Magdalena 52.  John is listed as a Laborer.

1861       16-Aug. August Weiler, Joseph and Magdalena’s fourth known child is born in Buffalo, New York.   Joseph is 35 and Magdalena is 28.

1862       1-Jan. Barbara Lorenz , later to be August’s wife and Henry Frank’s Mother is born in Buffalo, New York to Baptist and Mary Lorenz.

31-Jan. Joseph Weiler joins The NY 49^th Infantry, Company F, of the Union Army.   His occupation is listed as laborer.   He is 5’6” tall, has gray eyes and gray hair, and he is light complected at 35 years old.

17-Apr. at the Battle of Yorktown, VA, Joseph is shot in the foot.

18-Apr. at Young’s Mill Field Hospital the great toe on Joseph’s left foot is amputated.   While recuperating and on crutches he trips over a stump and breaks his collarbone.

20-Apr. Joseph is transferred to a hospital in Philadelphia at Broad and Cherry Street, then transferred again to The West Philadelphia Hospital.

1862     14-Jul. Joseph is discharged from the Army and goes back to Buffalo, NY “his home.”

Oct. Joseph Weiler leaves Buffalo for Detroit, MI.

1863       Jan. Joseph Weiler leaves Detroit, MI and goes to Cleveland, OH “ where he stays for some time.”

1865       Sarah Jane Sharman is born in Elmwood, Ontario, Canada.  She will Marry (James) Alexander Kerr of Renfrewshire, Paisley, Scotland.  They will become the Parents of Elizabeth Margaret Kerr Wiler who will marry Henry Frank Wiler in 1912.

1867       Louisa Lightener is born to Joseph and Margaret Lightener in Ohio.  ( Margaret Mattis Lightener Weiler Wheeler)  She is Margaret’s first known child.  Margaret is 24.

1869       Mary Lightener is born to Joseph and Margaret Lightener in Ohio.  ( Margaret Mattis Lightener Weiler Wheeler)  She is Margaret’s second known child.  Margaret is 26.

1870       According to the 1870 US Census Joseph Lightener, Margaret, Louisa, and Mary live in Huron Township, Erie County, Ohio.

1871       Chas Lightener is born to Joseph and Margaret Lightener in Ohio.  ( Margaret Mattis Lightener Weiler Wheeler)  He is Margaret’s third known child.  Margaret is 28.

1873       Apr. Joseph Weiler moves to Huron Township, Erie County, Ohio.  Joseph is 47.

Nov. Joseph Lightener, Margaret’s first known husband, hangs himself and dies.  Margaret is 30.

1874       20-Jun. Joseph Wiler marries Almira Bedee in Ottowa Ohio.   This is his second known wife.

Aug. Joseph Weiler’s second known wife, Almira Bedee dies.

Rosa Lightener is born after her Father dies.  She is Margaret’s fourth known child.  Margaret is 31.

19-Oct. Joseph Weiler marries Margaret Lightener in Port Clinton, Ottowa County, Ohio.  He is 47 and she is 31.

1875       2-Nov. Anna Willer is born to Joseph and Margaret Willer.  She is the first of their known children.  Joseph is 49 and Margaret is 32.

1876       23-Oct. Maggie Willer is born to Joseph and       Margaret Willer.   She is the second of their   known children.   Joseph is 50 and Margaret is   33.

1878    Robert Ralph Bemis is born.  He will later marry Caroline (Carrie) Wiler, daughter of August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler.

1879      George Wiler is born to John Wiler and Caroline Sparrow in Canada.   John is 22 and Caroline is 29.

21-Oct. Louis Willer is born to Joseph and Margaret Willer.  He is the third of their known children. Joseph is 51 and Margaret is 34.

1880       23-Jun. According to the 1880 Census, Joseph and Margaret live in Huron Township, Erie County, Ohio.  He is a farmer.   Living with them are:

1881   24-Apr.  Caroline (Carrie) Wiler is born to August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler in Buffalo, NY.   She is the first known of their children. August is 20 and Barbara is 19.

1882       8-Oct. August J. Wiler Jr. is born to August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler in Buffalo, NY. He is the second known of their children. August is 21 and Barbara is 20.

1883       30-Mar.  Adrian Jacobus Mitchell is born to Adrian J Mitchell and Clara Groth in Gowanda, NY.  He will later marry Edith Elizabeth Wiler daughter of John Wiler and Caroline Sparrow.

25-May.   John Henry Wiler is born to August Wiler and Barbara Lorenz in Buffalo, NY.  He is the third of their known children.   August is 23 and Barbara is 22.

23-Jul. John Willer is born to Joseph and            Margaret Willer.  He is the fourth of their   known children.   Joseph is 57 years old and Margaret is 40 years old.

 4-Dec.  Anna Bertha Hauth is born in Germany   to Konrad Hauth and Wilhelmina Runser.   She will later marry Albert Ernest Wiler born to John Wiler and Caroline Sparrow on 17-Dec-1883.

17-Dec.   Albert Ernest Wiler is born in Erie, Pa to John Wiler and Caroline Sparrow.   John is 26 and Caroline is 33.

1885   4-Feb.  Henry Frank Wiler is born to August Wiler and Barbara Lorenz in Buffalo NY.   He is the third of their children.   Both August and Barbara are 23.

12-Jul.   Ann Allen is born to William Allen and Jane King in Erie, Pa.   She will later marry John Henry Wiler.

1886   Henry Frank Wiler is born to August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler in Erie, Pennsylvania. He is the fourth known of their children.       August is 25 and Barbara is 24.

Signa (?) Wiler is born.  She will later marry George Wiler born 1879 in Canada to John Wiler and Caroline Sparrow.

25-Jul. Frances Pfundstein ( later to marry August J. Wiler Jr.)   is born to Joseph Pfundstein and Barbara Wachter Pfundstein in Erie, Pennsylvania.

1887   Harry Wiler is born to John Wiler and Caroline Sparrow in Pa.   John is 30 and Caroline is 37.

23-Nov.   Catherine Wierchowski (later to marry Michael Wiler), is born to Joseph and Anna Pol Wierchowski in Erie Pa.  

1888       6-Jun. Joseph Weiler appears before Mr. S. E. Bunder in Erie County, Ohio to apply for his Invalid Pension due to his war wounds received during his service to the Union Army.   He brings John Ebert and William Miller as witnesses.

12-Sep. Joseph Weiler has a physical exam in Sandusky, Ohio.  Joseph’ s pulse rate is 80 beats per minute, his respiration is 16, his temperature is 98.2, he is 5 feet, 5 ½ inches tall, 141 pounds, and is 63 years old.  His nutrition is good, his general health is good, his muscles are well developed, his heart action is normal, and his general condition is apparently normal.

1888     8-Aug.   Edith Elizabeth Wiler is born to John Wiler and Caroline Sparrow in Erie, Pa.   John is 31 and Caroline is 38.   

29-Sep. Joseph is declared to have shot himself in the foot by the Regiment descriptive book written in 1862.

10-Oct. Joseph Weiler’s pension request is rejected because he sustained a self inflicted wound.  “ This wound was supposed, with all aquainted with the circumstances, to have been purposely inflicted upon himself.  A deliberate and voluntary act.”

7-Nov. Joseph Wiler is born to August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler.  He is the fourth known of their children.   August is 27 and Barbara is 26.

1889          26-July.  According to the “Declaration for an Original Invalid Pension”   Joseph Weiler is 65 years old, 5 feet 2 inches tall, has a fair complexion, white hair and brown eyes.

25-Dec. Michael Wiler is born to August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler in Erie Pennsylvania.   He is the fifth known of their children.   August is 28 and Barbara is 27.

1890       30-May. Joseph Weiler takes a rat poison called “Rough on Rats” and dies “before medical aid could be or was summoned.”   Joseph Weiler is buried in McMillan Cemetery in Huron Township, Erie County, OH.   Joseph is 64.

5-Jun.  Obituary from the Erie Co. Reporter:  WHISKEY and POISON

Joe Wheeler, an old eccentric character living near Sage’s Grove, committed suicide last Friday by taking a mixture of whiskey and Rough on Rats, which in a few hours brought an end to his unfortunate earthly career.  Wheeler’s upper story has long been considered a little off, and his death is not a surprise.   He leaves a large family of children in rather destitute circumstances.  Funeral services were held Saturday, the remains being interred in the East Side Cemetery.

   5-Jul. Margaret Willer applies for Union Army Widow’s Pension in Huron, Erie County Ohio.  She states she “ has not remarried since his death and that he had been previously married, there is no children of first wife.”

1891    7-May.  Marie Scully (later to become Frank P. Wiler’s wife) is born to Jeremiah Scully and Rose Marie Dougherty in Fort Madison, Iowa.

1892       18-Apr. Frank P. Tracey Wiler is born to August and Barbara Wiler in Erie, Pennsylvania.   He is the sixth of their known children.  August is 31 and Barbara is 30.

   29-Sep. Elizabeth Margaret Kerr is born to (J.) Alexander Kerr and Sarah Jane Sharman Kerr in Elmwood, Ontario, Canada.   She will later marry Henry Frank Wiler.   Alexander is 53 and Sarah Jane is 27.

1893       20-Mar. Widow’s Pension is granted to Margaret Weiler and her four children at $8 for her and $2 for each child ($16) per month.

1898       19-Apr. William L. Wiler is born to August Wiler and Barbara Lorenz in Erie, Pennsylvania.  He is their seventh known child.  August is 37 and Barbara is 36.

1900       5-Jun.  According to the 1900 US Census  Maggie (Elizabeth Margaret) Kerr lives in the 11^th Ward,  Supervisor’s District 17, Enumeration District 88 of Buffalo city Erie County, NY.  She will later marry Henry Frank Wiler.  She lives with her parents on Greene Street.  In the house are Alexander Kerr born July 1843, Sara Jane Sharman, his wife born March 1864, Jessie born July 1884, Thadius born Aug 1886, and Maggie bornSeptember 1891.  Alexander’s occupation is listed as painter.  The whole family moved to America in 1893.

  8-Jun.  According to the 1900 US Census Adrian Jacobus Mitchell lives in Erie City on Peach Street with his parents Adrian J. Mitchell and Clara Groth Mitchell and his sister Uda.  He will later marry Edith Elizabeth Wiler daughter of John Wiler and Caroline Sparrow.  Adrian is 17 and attends school.  Uda is 15 and also attends school.  Adrian Sr. is listed as a Veterinary Surgeon and is 47.  His mother Clara has no listed occupation and is 38.  His father was born in New Jersey and his mother was born in Germany.  There were also two boarders in the house. Edward Shultz, 20 and Louis Walter, 32.  Both were Hostlers.

1901   25-Jan.  Raymond J. Wiler is born to August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler in Erie, Pennsylvania.  He is their eighth known child. August is 40 and Barbara is 39.

1903       17-Mar.  Joseph Pfundstein, husband of Catherine Barbara Wachter and father of Frances Pfundstein Wiler dies in Erie Pa.  He is buried in Trinity Cemetery in Sec. S, Lot 57, Grave 1.  His wife will later join him in Grave 3 as will August J. Wiler Jr in Grave 4, and Frances Pfundstein Wiler in Grave 2.

7-Sep.  Mabel Reed Stromenger is born to Edmond J. and Lena Klein Stromenger in Erie, Pa.  She will later be the second wife of Raymond J. Wiler.

1904       Rose Kaminski is born.  She will become the wife of Joseph Wiler.

1905   21-Apr.   Arthur John Rathbun, Sr. is born.  He will later marry Bernice Frances Wiler the first child of John Henry Wiler and Ann Allen.

1907   25-Nov.  John Henry Wiler third child of August Wiler and Barbara Lorenz marries Ann Allen daughter of William Allen and Jane King in Ripley, NY.  John Henry is 23 and Ann is 22.

1908       John Wiler is born to George and Signa Wiler in Pa.  George is 29 and Signa is 22.

10-Sep.  Arthur H. Clough is born to Almond J. Clough Margaret B. Blake in Warren, Pa.  He will later marry Ruth E. Mitchell.

13-Sep.  Bernice Frances Wiler is born to John Henry Wiler and Ann Allen in Erie, Pa.  She is their first known child.  John Henry is 24 and Ann is 23.  

1910       20-Apr. According to the 1910 US Census John Wiler, son of Joseph Weiler and Madeleine Bussinger, and his wife Caroline Sparrow live in Erie City, Erie County, Pa. on East 22^nd Street.   In the house are John 52, Carrie 51, Harry 24, and Elizabeth 21.  John is a Moulder in an Aluminum Foundry and Harry is a Bookkeeper for a Coal Company.

22-Apr.   According to the 1910 US Census John Henry Wiler, son of August Wiler and Barbara Lorenz, and his wife Ann Allen live in Erie City, Erie County Pa. on Cascade Street near Third Street.  In the house are John Henry 25, Anna 28, Bernice 8 months, and Charley Allen 29, Brother-in-law.  John’s occupation is listed as Machine Hand for a Carriage Maker and Charley is a Moulder in an Aluminum Foundry.

  26-Apr.  According to the 1910 US Census August Wiler and his wife Barbara live in Erie City, Erie County, Pa on East 25^th Street.   In the house are August 49, Barbara 49, August, Jr 27, Michael 20, Joseph 22, Frank 17, William 11, and Raymond 9.  August is a laborer in a paper mill, as is August, Jr.  Michael and Joseph are laborers in a rubber warehouse, and Frank is a laborer in a button shop.  All of the boys are still single.  

21-Aug.  Dorothy Elizabeth Wiler is born to John Henry Wiler and Ann Allen in Erie, Pa.  She is the second of their known children.  John Henry is 26 and Ann is 25.  

Michael Wiler son of August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler married Catherine Wierchowska.  He was 21 and she was 22.

Frank P. Tracey Wiler, sixth child of August Wiler and Barbara Lorenz marries Marie Scully daughter of Jeremiah Scully and Rose Marie Dougherty.  Michael is 18 and Marie is 19

1911       26-Aug.  August J. Wiler Jr. son of August Wiler and Barbara Lorenz Wiler marries Frances B. Pfundstein daughter of Mr. Pfundstein and Barbara Wachter Pfundstein in Erie Pa.  He is 29 and she is 25.

John Enders is born to John A. Enders and Margaret Scheib in Erie (?) Pa.  He will later marry Madeline Wiler daughter of Frank P. Wiler and Marie Scully.

1912       Henry Frank Wiler son of August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler marries Elizabeth Margaret Kerr daughter of (J) Alexander Kerr and Sarah Jane Sharman Kerr at a Justice of the peace in Canada.  He was 26 and she was 20.

18-May.  Henry Michael (Schuber) Szuba was born to Michael Szuba and Catherine (?) Szuba in Erie, Pa.  He will later marry Marie Rita Wiler.  

29-Oct.  Charles Allen Wiler is born to John Henry Wiler and Ann Allen in Erie, Pa.  He is the third of their known children.  John Henry is 28 and Ann is 29.

1913       14-Feb.  Ruth E. Mitchell is born in Erie, Pa to Adrian Jacobus Mitchell and Edith Elizabeth Wiler.  Adrian is 30 and Edith Elizabeth is 25.

12-Jun.  Lawrence Frances Wiler is born to Henry Frank and Elizabeth M. Kerr Wiler in Erie City, Erie County, Pennsylvania.  He is the first of their known children.  Henry is 27 and Elizabeth is 21.

31-Jul.  Norbert Joseph Wiler is born to August, Jr. and Frances Pfundstein Wiler.  He is their first known child.  August Jr. is 31 and Frances is 27.

19-Dec. Mrs. Margaret (Weiler) Wheeler (Joseph’s third known wife) died at 11:30 AM in Huron Township, Erie County, Ohio of Aortic Insufficiency.  She is 70 years, 4 months and 15 days old.  She had been sick for about four months.  John Wheeler gave the personal particulars of her death certificate.   She is buried in Scott’s (Scoot’s) Cemetery in Huron.  (McMillan’s Cemetery, where Joseph Weiler is buried, and Scott’s Cemetery are different Cemeteries.)

1914       3-Apr.  Frances R. Richter is born to William Richter and Tillie Driver Richter in Erie Pa.  She will later marry Norbert J Wiler

13-Jul.  John Joseph Wiler is born to Frank P. Tracy Wiler and Marie Scully.  He is their first child. Frank P. is 21 and Marie is 22.

1915       14-Nov. Henry F. Weiler Jr. is born to Henry Frank and Elizabeth Margaret Kerr Wiler in the city of Olean, Cattaraugus County, New York at 7:30AM.  He is the second of their known children.  Henry’s occupation is Electrical Contractor, and he is listed as being born in Buffalo, NY.  Elizabeth is listed as being born in Canada.  The attending Physician is C. Fitzgerald.  Henry Frank was apparently the only person who knew about this name.  Richard X. Wiler would have his name legally changed to what he thought was his birth name on 26-Dec. 1945. Henry is 29 and Elizabeth is 23.

1916   16-Jan.  Luella Kuntz is born to William Kuntz and Ellen Welte in Erie, Pa.  Luella will later marry Charles Allen Wiler.

8-Jul.  Marie Rita Wiler is born to August J. Wiler Jr. and Frances Pfundstein in Erie, Pa.   She is their second known child.  August is 34 and Frances is 30.

5-Jun.  Joseph Wiler, son of August Wiler and Barbara Lorenz, born 7-Nov-1888 registers for the WWI draft.  He lives at 648 East 25^th Street in Erie with his parents (He claims they are solely dependant on him for support).  He is a laborer for Ely Manufacturing in Erie.  He is of medium height and slender build and he is not obviously physically disqualified. His hair is dark, his eyes are dark, and he is not bald.

Marie Wiler is born to August Jr. and Frances Pfundstein Wiler.  She is the second of their known children. August Jr. is 35 and Frances is 31.

1917       18-Apr.  Elizabeth (Betty) Postirak is born to John Postirak and Elizabeth Nimet in Erie, Pa.  She will later marry Charles Leroy Wiler after he comes home from WWII.

2-Sep.  Madeline V. O’Connor is born to Michael O’ Connor and Susan Barber O’Connor in Erie, Pa.  She will later marry John J. Wiler.

12-Sep.  Henry Frank Wiler son of August Wiler and Barbara Lorenz born 4-Feb-1885 in Buffalo NY registers for the WWI draft.  He lives at 2202 Wallace, Erie, Pa.  He is 34 and his occupation is Electrical Contractor.  His height is short, his weight is small and he is not obviously physically disqualified.

12-Sep.  Michael G Wiler, son of August Wiler and Barbara Lorenz, born 25-Dec-1889 in Erie, Pa registers for the WWI draft.  He lives at 936 East 26^th Street, Erie, Pa.  He is 27 and his occupation is part owner Prada Street Taxi Cab Company, in Erie.  He is married.  He claims exemption due to spinal trouble.  His height is tall, his weight is medium and he is not obviously physically disqualified.  His hair is gray, his eyes are light and he is bald.

12-Sep.  Albert Ernest Wiler, son of John Wiler and Caroline Sparrow born 17-Dec-1882 in Erie, Pa, registers for the WWI draft. He lives at 2417 German Street.  He is 35 and he is a Forman for the General Electric Company at 8 Lake Road in Erie.  His height is medium and his weight is medium small and he is not obviously physically disqualified.

12-Sep.  George Henry Wiler, son of John Wiler and Caroline Sparrow born 27-Jul-1878 registers for the WWI draft. He lives at 342 East 20th Street.  He is 40 and he is a Millwright for the Erie Forge Company in Erie.  His height is medium and his weight is medium small and he is not obviously physically disqualified.

1918   21-Oct.  Arthur Harry (Bud) Wiler is born to John Henry Wiler and Ann Allen in Erie, Pa.  He is their fourth known child.  John Henry is 34 and Ann is 33.

16-Dec.  Donald J. Wiler is born to Henry and Elizabeth Margaret Kerr Wiler in Erie, Pa.  He is the third of their known children.  Henry is 32 and Elizabeth is 26.

1919       21-May. Frederic Charles Wiler is born to August Jr. and Frances Pfundstein Wiler in Erie, Pa.   He is the third of their known children.  August is 37 and Frances is 34.

1920       7-Jan. According to the 1920 Census John Weiler and his wife Caroline live in Ward 5 of Erie City, Erie County,Pa (sheet 31) on East 22^nd Street.  In the house were John 63, Caroline 69, their sons Harry 33, and George 41, his wife Signe 34, and their son John 12.  John is a Molder at a foundry, Harry is a teller in a bank, and George is a burner on the Railroad.

9-Jan.  According to the 1920 Census Henry Frank Wiler and his wife Elizabeth Margaret Kerr lived on South Hanson Street in the 40^th Ward, Supervisor’s District 1, Enumeration District 1448 of Philadelphia, PA.  Living in the house were Henry 34, Margaret 28, Lawrence 6, Richard 5, and Donald 1.  Henry’s occupation is listed as Electrician for the Philadelphia Schools.

  12-Jan. According to the 1920 Census Frank P.   2-Apr.  According to the 1920 Census, Michael Wiler and his wife Catherine Wierchowska Wiler live on East 26^th Street in Erie, PA in the 5^th Ward, Enumeration District 106 (sheet 21).  Also in the house was Henry Wierchowska, Katherine’s brother.  Michael is 30, Katherine is 30, and HHHenry is 35.  Michael’s occupation is listed as a Coremaker in a foundry and Henry is a laborer in a factory.

  11-Jul.  Albert Munro Metzler is born to Emery Ellsworth Metzler and Anna May Munro in Erie, Pa.  He will later Marry Caroline A. Wiler daughter of Albert Ernest Wiler and Anna Bertha Hauth.  Enery is 31 and Anna May is 36.

7-Apr.  According to the 1930 Census Gust (August) Wiler Jr. and his wife Frances Pfundstein Wiler live at 2811 Wayne Street in Erie, PA (August Jr. would later die in this house) Enumeration District 25-84 (sheet 8B).  Living in the house are Gust J. 48, Frances 48, Norbert 16, Marie 13, Charles 8 and Elsie 11 months old.  August is a trucker for a freight house.  Norbert is an office boy for a newspaper.  August is not a veteran.

   10-Apr.  According to the 1930 Census Henry Frank Wiler and his wife Elizabeth M. live in the 40^th Ward of Philadelphia, PA.  They lived on S. 75^th Street. In the house were Henry 44, Elizabeth 38, Lawrence 16, Richard 15, Donald 11, Thomas 9, Albert 7, Barbara 5, and William 11 months.  Also living with them is August, Henry’s father.  Henry is an electrician at Patterson School at 70^th and Buist Ave. in the city, and August is a night watchman at a garage.  Neither Henry nor August are veterans.

   10-Apr.  According to the 1930 Census Raymond Wiler and his wife Liah lived on Nazareth Pike in Bethlehem Township, Northampton County, PA (sheet 7).  Also in the house was Betty L. Wiler their daughter.  Raymond is 28, Liah is 24, and Betty L. is 2 ½ years old.  Raymond is a delivery Man on a dairy route.  Raymond is not a veteran.

1931       30-May Henry Frank Wiler, born in 1886, the son of August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler and the husband of Elizabeth Kerr Wiler dies at the Phila. Hospital for Mental Diseases.  The cause of death is Acute Hepatitis with jaundice.  He was in the hospital from 15-May to 30-May.  His occupation is listed as Electrical Helper.    He lived at 2502 S. 75^th St. in Phila.  He is 44 years old.   His Doctor is Matthew Whatel PHMD.  He is buried, out of St. Clements RC Church at 71^st and Woodland Ave. in Phila., in Holy Cross Cemetery at Baily Road & Yeadon Ave. in Lansdowne, PA at Section S, Range 8, Lot 4, Grave 4 on 3-June.  The Undertaker is Cavanaugh at 6922 Woodland Ave. Phila., PA.

Lininger.  The informant’s name is Marie Rita Wiler Szuba, his wife.  He is 39 years old and Marie is 35.  The Undertaker is Chas Brugger and he is buried in Calvary Cemetery at sec. 26, lot 272.  

11-Jun.  Mary Crandell is born in Erie, Pa.  She will later marry Robert Frederick Wiler in Erie, Pa.

Sept.  William Henry Wiler (Billy) starts Kindergarten at Patterson Public School at 70^th and Buist Ave, in Philadelphia, Pa.  During the school year he is selected to be the Flag bearer during a Flag Day celebration held by the school, and his picture gets in the paper.  It turns out that Richard Xavier Wiler, his uncle, happens to be dating the Kindergarten teacher.  Billy was also selected to show other Kindergarten children how to make a dog out of clay because the one he made actually looked like a dog.  Also, once in a while Billy was allowed to walk home with his friend’s parents to the side of the street directly across from his house.  His mother would direct him from the door whether to cross or stay.  Billy misunderstood and ran out in front of a car.  The driver was very alert and stopped.  Everybody cried even though no damage was done, even the man driving the car.

Sep.  William Henry Wiler (Billy) starts first grade at St. Clement’s School at 71^st Street and Woodland Ave.  His teacher is Sister Margaret Mary of the IHM sisters.  Billy took the bus everyday from the corner of 73^rd and Dicks Ave. to school, and he carried his lunch most days. On the days he was lucky enough to buy his lunch his mother would give him $0.25 to buy a hot dog and a chocolate drink.

16-Sep.   Caroline (Carrie) Wiler Bemis, born 24-Aug-1881 to August and Barbara Lorenz Wiler dies at 5:10PM in Hamot Hospital.  She is 72 years and 22 days old.   According to Dr. John B. Tredway M.D. she died of Septicemia due to an infection of an amputated stump from a condition of Diabetes.  She was the widow of Robert Ralph Bemis.  She lived at 2108 State Street, Erie Pa.   Her occupation is listed as being “at home.”  The Funeral Mass was at St. Peter’s Cathedral.  The Undertaker is Chas. She was 65 years old.  Her occupation was listed as Custodian in the Erie School District.   She lived at 335 East 26^th Street in Erie, Pa.  The informant was Jack Wiler of the same address.  The Undertaker was Robert Brugger of 449 E. 9^th Street in Erie, Pa.  She was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Section 23, Sgl 1070.

Hersh MD.  He was 73 years old.  He was born out of the Metzler Funeral Home in Erie Cemetery in Lot 237, Section 25, on the NE corner headed East.

13-Oct.  Laurence Francis Wiler, born 12-Jun-1913 to Henry Frank and Elizabeth Margaret Kerr Wiler died at his home at 8AM.  According to Dr. A. Colavita, MD he died of Myocardial Infarction due to Cerebral Ischemia.    He was 74 years old.  He lived at 2105 S. Daggett St, Phila., PA.  He was a veteran of the Army in WWII.  His SS# 164-03-7688.  His occupation was a Civil Engineer.  He traveled the world to ply his trade.  The informant was Barbara Wiler Clark Saunders of 22 Lewis Ave. in East Lansdowne, PA.  The Undertaker was William D. Johnston of  Johnston Funeral Home in Lansdowne, PA.  He was buried in Montrose Cemetery of Highland Park PA at the Veterans Circle Lot 105.

1988      1-Aug.  Charles L. Wiler, born on 18-Oct-1921 to August Jr, and Frances Pfundstein Wiler dies in the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center at 10:45AM.  He was 66 years old.  According to Doctor Yen-Jen Fuh M.D. he died of Congestive Heart Failure in one day due to Terminal Cancer of the Lungs which he had for months.  He lived with his wife Elizabeth “Bettie” at 1904 East 8^th Street, Erie, Pa. 16511.  He was in WWII Serial # 20311014 and his SS# 178-14-6930.  His Occupation was a Communications Technician for the General Telephone Company.  He is a founding member of the Mt. Calvary R. C. Church.  He is buried in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sec. 6, Lot 2593, Grave 1, in Fairview Twp. Pa. The Undertaker is Paul D. Brugger of A. Brugger & Sons  449 East 9^th Street  Erie, Pa. 16503 .

1989       Charles John Davis son of Elsie Barbara Wiler and Paul McKinley Davis, retires from working at Erie’s General Electric in the Foundry and Power Department after winning the Pennsylvania’s Super 7 Lottery for $8 Million.

13-Apr.  Ian Sutherland is born to Alan and Lauren Louraine Wiler Sutherland in Bryn Mawr Hospital, Bryn Mawr, PA.  He is their third child. Alan is 37 and Lauren is 35.

6-Oct.  Benjamin P. Davis is born to Paulette Michelle Davis and David A. Mantsch in Erie, Pa. He is her first known child.  Paulette is 28.

1990       10-Nov.  Donald J. Wiler, son of Henry Frank and Elizabeth Margaret Kerr Wiler dies at Burdette Tomlin Hospital in Cape May, NJ at 4:38PM.  He is 71 years old.  His wife is Edith E. Williams Wiler and they live in Cape May, NJ.  His occupation is listed as a retired Research and Development Technician for Gulf Oil Co. in Hamersville, Pa.  He is cremated by Evoy Funeral Home of 3218 Bayshore Road, Cape May, NJ 08204 at the Cape May County Crematory in Lower Township, NJ.  He attended College for two years and his SS# is 201-10-2651.

1991   10-Nov.  Ruth E. Mitchell born on 14-Feb-1913, the daughter of Adrian Jacobus Mitchell and Edith Elizabeth Wiler, and the widow of Arthur H. Clough dies in her own home at 6:35 am.  She lived with her daughter at 319 Roslyn Ave. in Erie, Pa 16505.  She died of a metastic Adenocarcenoma of the rectum according to Dr. William R. Betz MD.  She was 78 years old.  She graduated from the 12^th grade and was a housewife.  She was buried out of Burton Funeral Home in Erie Cemetery in Lot 237, Section 25, Grave 5E of NW corner Hd North next to her husband.

1992       20-Jan.  Thomas Joseph Wiler son of Henry Frank and Elizabeth Margaret Kerr Wiler dies at his residence of “Metastic head and neck cancer” at 2:45PM.  He was suffering from cancer for six years.  He is seventy years old.  His wife is Margaret T. Megary Wiler and they live at 214 Morton Ave. Broomall, Pa. 19008.  His occupation is listed as “Retired Instrument Shift Foreman” at Gulf Oil Refinery in Phila., Pa.  He is buried at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Delaware County, Pa 19064 in Section 27, Range 11, Lot 8.

11-Dec.  Madeline Wiler daughter of Frank Wiler and Marie Scully dies at the St. Vincent Center in Erie, Pa at 12:45am.  She is the widowed wife of John Enders who died in 1950.  Her occupation is listed as homemaker of her own home.  She lived at 836 East 7^th Street, Erie, Pa. 16503.   Her SS# is 211-03-6195.  The informant is Timothy Enders of 9840 Route 6N, Albion, Pa. 16401.  According to Dr. Jeffrey Blake she died of Asystole due to Ischemic heart disease brought on by coronary arthroscerosis (heart block).  The Undertaker is Donald C. Burton, Inc.  602 West 10^th Street, Erie, Pa 16502.  She is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Erie in Sec. 27, Lot 168 right next to her husband.

1993   29-Dec.  Albert Munro Metzler, son of Emery Ellsworth Metzler and Anna May Munro, born on 11-Jul-1920 in Erie, Pa; and the husband of Caroline A. Wiler, dies in the Metro Health Center in Erie, Pa at 3:20 am.  He lived with his wife at 3244 Sterretania Road, Erie, Pa 16506.  He worked as a Machinist for an Engine Manufacturer.  According to Dr. Charles E. Liken, DO, he died of Ventricular Asystole due to respiratory failure.   He was buried out of the Brugger Funeral Home of Erie, Pa in Laurel Hill Cemetery at Lot 155, Section 5, Grave4.  His wife will later join him in Grave 5.

1994   May.  Holly Ann Rathbun, daughter of Arthur J. Rathbun, Jr. and Trudy Ann Gier marries Albia Alan Demaranville in Erie, Pa.  Holly Ann is 29.

1996       24-Mar. Albert Andrew Wiler son of Henry Frank and Elizabeth Margaret Kerr Wiler dies at his residence of “Cardiovascular Disease” at 7:30AM.  He is 73 years old.  He lived with his wife Marie J. McCartney Wiler and his son Albert A. Wiler II at 2622 S. 73^rd Street in Phila., Pa 19153.  He is buried out of St. Irreneaus R. C. Church. The Undertaker is Marvel Funeral Home at 110 Main St. in Darby Pa. 19023.  He went to the tenth grade at Bartram H. S. in Phila., Pa.  He was a WWII veteran with the Coast Guard.  He is a retired Philadelphia Fireman with 33 years of service.  His SS# is 188-16-5603.  He is cremated at  West Laurel Hill in Bala Cynwyd Pa.

1997       7-Feb.  Madeline V. O’Connor Wiler, daughter of Michael and Susan Barber O’Connor and the Widow of John J. Wiler dies of Respitory Failure due to Influenza at 8:30pm in the Hamot Medical Center.  The informant was Kenneth Wiler of 5346 Bondy Dr.  Erie, Pa. 16509.  Her occupation was listed as homemaker.  Her SS# is 195-03-8618.   The Undertaker was Walt Lynd of J. J. Quinn Funeral home in Erie, Pa.  The certifying doctor was Dr. Anne Marie Liszka DO.  She is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Erie, Pa in Sec. 7, Lot 24, Grave 7 right next to her husband.

1998       6-Oct.  Bernice F. Rathbun, first known child of John Henry Wiler and Ann Allen and the Widowed wife of Arthur J. Rathbun Sr. dies in St. Vincent Health Center at 7:10pm.  Her Address is listed as 900 Manchester Road, Fairview, Pa.  The informant is Gary Rathbun of 400 Pasadena Drive, Erie, Pa.  According to Dr. David Lesseski D.O. she died of Acute Aspiration due to Bilateral Pneumonia as a consequence of Diabetes Mellitus.  The Undertaker was Burton Funeral Homes.  She is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery right next to her husband at Sec. 8, Lot 1171, Grave 1.

1999       15-Apr.  Caroline A. Wiler born on 25-Oct-1920 in Erie, Pa.; the daughter of Albert Ernest Wiler and Anna Bertha Hauth and the widow of Albert Munro Metzler dies of a Metastic carcinoma of the lung at her residence.  She lived with her daughter Sharon Metzler Gordon at 3097 North Road, Sherman (Findley Lake) Township, Chautauqua County, NY.  She is buried out of the Spitzer Funeral Home of Findley Lake, NY in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Erie, Pa next to her Husband in Lot 155, Section 5, Grave 5.

6-Jul.  Elsie Barbara Wiler, daughter of August Wiler Jr. and Frances Pfundstein, and the wife of Paul McKinley Davis dies in Erie, Pa.  She is 70 years old.  She is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery preceeding her husband.

2000       16-Apr.  Arthur Harry (Bud) Wiler fourth son of John Henry Wiler and Ann Allen and the husband of Norma Purcell dies in Florida.  His body was cremated.

12-Jul.  Paul McKinley Davis widower husband of Elsie Barbara Wiler dies in Erie, Pa.   He is 75 years old.  He is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery as is his wife.  Paul served in the U. S. Army during WW II.  He was in the 1^st Division “ The Big Red 1” during the “Battle of the Bulge”

2001   Apr.  Paulette Davis is a Machine Operator at Modern Industries until she takes full Disability.  Paulette and her son Benjamin P Davis are the third and fourth generation of the Wiler Family to reside at 2811 Wayne Street, Erie, Pa.

2002   6-Feb.  Dorothy Elizabeth Wiler born to John Henry Wiler and Ann Allen on 21-Aug-1910 in Erie, Pa and married to Edwin Lee Massing dies in Fort Thomas, Ky. She is 92.

2016   16-Mar.  Frank A. “Sonny” Wiler born 28-Sep-1923 to Frank P. Wiler and Marie Scully dies in  Erie, Pa.
