Michelle provided the following information: "I would like to have my ancestor's photo added to the Erie County genealogy website. Charles Harrison Lovrien was born in 1836. According to the 1884 Warner Beers & Co, "History of Erie County, Pennsylvania" Volume 1, page 537, he served as a Select Council Member in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1866 under Mayor William L Scott and in 1867 and 1868 under Mayor Orange Noble. From the book "A TWENTIETH CENTURY HISTORY OF ERIE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, A NARRATIVE ACCOUNT OF ITS HISTORICAL PROGRESS, ITS PEOPLE, AND ITS PRINCIPAL INTERESTS" by John Miller, Volume 1 page 694" - The third manufactory of engines in Erie was started in 1865, by Charles H Lovrein [sic] and named the Bay State Iron Works, for Mr. Lovrein [sic] was from Massachusetts. It began business when the oil boom was at its height and prospered immediately. Soon afterwards L H Hall became a partner and in 1868 or 1869 Orange Noble bought the Lovrein [sic] interest. According to the 1865 Erie City Business Directory, the manufactory was located at the corner of Third and Peach Street."

Editor's Note: The Nelson History of Erie County confirms that he was a member of the Select Council in the years indicated, but spells the last name as LOVERIEN. Nelson does not give credit to him for founding Bay State Iron works, but rather gives credit to L H Hall and Orange Noble. The Erie Cemetery Association database contains a Charles LOVEREIN buried in the Erie Cemetery is Section 17, Lot 141, listing a date of death as July 4, 1900. A Mary A LOVEREIN is also listed in this Section and Lot number.
