Sherrod Hill Cemetery Deed

This cemetery, originally known as the Sherrod Neighborhood Graveyard, is located at the intersection of Eureka Road and Sherrod Hill Road in Elk Creek Township. This land was originally owned by Andrew Sherrod and deeded to trustees Martin Greenfield and Levi White the 12th of April 1852. A transcribed copy of the original deed is shown below.


THIS INDENTURE, Made the twelfth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-two BETWEEN Andrew Sherrod of the Town of Washington, County of Erie and State of Pennsylvania and Roxania his wife of the first part and Martin Greenfield and Levi White of the same place trustees of the graveyard in the Sherrod neighborhood and to their heirs of the second part.

WITNESSETH, That the said parties of the first part, for and in consideration of the sum of ten dollars money of the United States to them in hand paid for the said parties of the second part at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt and payment whereof they do hereby acknowledge have granted. bargained, sold, released and confirmed, and by these presents do grant, bargain, seell [sic], release and confirm, unto the said parties of the second part and to their heirs and assigns, all that certain peice [sic] and parcel of land situate in Elk Creek Township county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania bounded and described as follows to wit commencing at a point in center of the road leading from Sherrod to Cussewago and one rod and twelve links south of the southwest corner in center of said road of land this day deeded to Horace Webster thence west eight rods and fifty four links to a post thence north nine rods and nineteen links to a post thence east eight rods and fifty four links to the center of said road thence south along said road nine rods and nineteen links to the beginning containing one half acre land more or less.

TOGETHER with all and singular the right's, liberties, privileges, hereditaments and appurtenances whatsoever thereto belonging, and the reversions and remainders, rents, issues and profits thereof: And also all the estate and interest whatsoever of them the said parties of the first part in law or equity, of in, to or out of the .same. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the premises hereby granted, or intended so to be, with the appurtenances, unto the said parties of .the second part, their heirs, and assigns, to the use of the said part of the second part, their heirs and assigns forever. And the amid parties of the First part, their heirs, executors, and administrators do hereby covenant and agree us and with the said parties of the second part their heirs and assigns, that they the said parties of the first part their heirs, the above mentioned and described premises, with the appurtenances, unto the said part of the second part against the said parties of the first part and their heirs and against all and every other person or persons whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim any part or parcel thereof shall and will WARRANT and forever DEFEND by these presents. IN WITNESS WHEREOF the said parties of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seal the day and year first above written.
