Veterans Memorial Cemetery - PA Soldiers & Sailors Home

Veterans Memorial Cemetery is the name that now appears over a brand new (2002) gate at the cemetery which has always been referred to as the Pennsylvania Soldier's and Sailor's Home Cemetery. This cemetery is a large sized active cemetery (total number of burials unknown at this time) located behind the PA Soldier's and Sailor's Home, just east of the Anthony Wayne Blockhouse. The entrance is at 2nd and Ash Street and one must proceed around the perimeter road for the Home, following the signs for the Blockhouse. I do not have a full history of this cemetery, but will add any other information to this page as it becomes available. As far as can be determined, the first burials were of Civil War veterans. There is no Revolutionary War soldiers, and I have not found any burials from the War of 1812. I also do not believe any women are buried here. Please contact me if you have updated information concerning this cemetery. Burials are arranged for the most part by date of death. As a burial takes place, it is done in the next open plot. There are several sections to the cemetery, with newer burials being done in the area closest to the Blockhouse. There is a large commemorative statue in the middle of an older area of the cemetery to the east.
