Can anyone tell me what inanition means as a cause of death in a
baby. This term was mentioned on several death registrations.
Thanks............Sharon

Inanition would mean that the baby died from either not eating, or not
being able to take up the nutrients from the food into the body.

keith

I received a death certificate today and on the cause of death it says CATARAL FEVER, PNEUMONIA . Does anyone know what Cataral Fever is?

Catarrh (catarrhal) refers to the inflamation of a mucous membrane with a free discharge. For the last 100 years or so (the word has passed out of usage now) the word referred almost exclusively to inflammation of the membranes of the respiratory system with exudate (mucous, hackers, chookers, etc). It is compatable with a diagnosis of bacterial pneumonia, and was also used in the form "epidemic catarrh" to refer to influenzae. Catarrh is a symptom more than an actual disease. When did the person die?

The correct spelling is catarrhal. Catarrhal fever is an old term for several upper and lower respiratory diseases including the common cold, influenza and various types of pneumonias. Catarrh refers to inflammation of a mucous membrane, such as in the nose, with an increased flow of mucus or exudate.
