Mailing Lists

The following mailing lists may be of interest to people doing research in Butler Co., PA.

All mailing lists have two addresses, one address to handle commands (such as subscribe, unsubscribe, etc.) and a second address for sending mail to all the subscribers to the mailing list. The e-mail addresses listed below are the addresses that handle commands. The address for sending mail to all subscribers will be included in the confirmation message that you will receive when you subscribe to any of these lists. This confirmation message is important. Please read it carefully, and be sure to keep a copy for future reference.

Many mailing lists are available in two formats, normal mode and digest mode. In normal mode, you receive each individual message as soon as it is received by the mailing list software. In digest mode, you usually receive one e-mail per day which contains all the messages for that day. The advantage of digest mode is that it is typically easier to keep track of which mail is personal and which mail is being sent to the lists. The disadvantage is the slight delay of up to a day before seeing the collected messages.

A mailing list for Butler Co., PA genealogy is currently maintained by Tom Nagy.

To subscribe, send an e-mail with just the word subscribe in the body of the mail to [email protected] for normal mode or to [email protected] for digest mode. If and when you want to unsubscribe the procedure is exactly the same except the command sent is unsubscribe

There is a mailing list for Pennsylvania Dutch culture, history and genealogy. The term Pennsylvania Dutch includes all early Pennsylvania German immigrants and their descendants regardless of their religion (Lutheran, Reformed, Mennonite, Amish, etc.) Assimilation to the English culture varies greatly among the Pennsylvania Dutch.

To subscribe, send an e-mail with just the word subscribe in the body of the mail to [email protected] for normal mode or to [email protected] for digest mode.

PLEASE NOTE: This is definitely NOT a genealogy-only list, although genealogy is one of the topics. Please, do NOT join us and then complain about the discussion of PA Dutch recipes, customs, or language. Viele Danke! (Thanks!)
