SiemanRuth A.Ruth A. Diemon, 87, of North Little Rock, died Wednesday, May 6. She was born in Kansas City, Mo. to Rev. William C. and Julia Burhop, later moving to Ft. Wayne, Ind. Where her father served as President of Concordia College. There she met her husband of 63 years, Ralph M Siemon, who was attending the college. Later the family moved to St. Louis. She waorked at Concordia Publishing House. In 1951 the family moved to North Little Rock where Ruth served 20 years as secretary at First Lutheran Church in Little Rock. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in North Little Rock and belonged to the Women's Guild, taught Sunday School and was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph M. Siemon; three children, Carol R. Siemon of North Little Rock, Lois A. Sheer of San Diego and James R. Siemon of Brookline Mass., eight grandchildren; a brother, Waldemar Burhop of Fort Wayne, Ind., and a sister, Esther Lehmann of Nixa, Mo.

Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church Saturday, May 9, with the Rev. Larry Sieferth officiating. Entombment was in Rest Hills Mausoleum.

Fred C. Simpson, 84, of Texarkana, formerly of North Little Rock, died Thursday, Jan. 4, in a local nursing home. He was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force and a decorated veteran of World War II.

Thomas Irvin Simpson, 63, of Jacksonville, a senior master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force who retired after 23 years of service, died Wednesday, May 10, after a battle with cancer.

He had received the Bronze Star and many others honors while serving in Vietnam. He was also retired from Zumwalt Enterprises after 16 years of service.

He was an avid fisherman, and had been an officer of the Black Bass of Central Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his "parents" Harold and Marie Pfleger. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Angie Simpson; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Cindy Simpson of Jacksonville, David and Regina Simpson of Tecumseh, Okla., and Todd and Beth Simpson of Bull Shoals; eight grandchildren, Blake, Kale, Brooke, Eric, Benjamin, Hayden, Angela and Michael; two step-grandchildren, Joshua and Lindsey Moore; brothers and sisters, Louise Stringer of Pine Bluff, Hershel Simpson and Bernie Pfleger, both of Stuttgart, and Shirley Stephens of DeValls Bluff.

SimsDaveDave Sims, 58, of North Little Rock, a construction inspector at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, died Monday, May 3, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born In Darlove, Miss., and was a Vietnam War Veteran, where he merited a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Wrenford and Josephine Sims (Chambers). He is survived by his special and devoted companion, Connie Murphy; son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Cris Sims of Lancaster, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Netta Sims; niece and nephew Jordan and Davis of Little Rock.

Linda Faye (Davis) Small, 49, of North Little Rock, a registered nurse at the VA Hospitals in Little Rock and North Little Rock, died Monday, July 19. A graduate of Lake County High School in Ridgely, Tenn., she had attended St. Joseph's Nursing School in Memphis and was an avid basketball player in high school and nursing school.

She was a nurse manager for more than 10 years and was instrumental in assisting the improvement of the out-patien surgery facility at the Little Rock VA Hospital. Active in the Humane Society, she had a great love of animals. She was also a faithful member of First Pentecostal Church in North Little Rock.

She is survived by her husband, James R. Small; daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Scott Smith of North Little Rock; mother, Jewell McCurdy of Obion, Tenn.; father, Guy Maddox of Tiptonville, Tenn.; sister, Donna Copley of Memphis; a brother, Donnie Maddox of Dyersburg, Tenn.

Esther Marsh Smith, 85, of North Little Rock, formerly of Searcy, a retired Cumberland Presbyterian minister since 1955, died Wednesday, May 19.

She had pastored in Searcy, Gum Springs and Pleasant Grove churches. She was also retired from the Wood-Freeman Lumber Co. after 40 years. She was active in the White County Historical Society, the American Legion Ausiliary, Leisure Lodge Auxiliary, and the North Little Rock Garden Club.

She was a committed participant at Friends of His Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sherwood.

Preceded in death by her husband, Odus H. Smith and a sister, she is survived by three step-children, James and jeff Smith of Searcy and Francis Mae Ellis of Newport; one brother, A.H. Marsh of Mineola, Texas; three nieces, jackie Elkins of North Little Rock, Sue Hendricks of Garland, Texas, and Rebecca Penrod of Mineola, Texas; and several step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in Searcy Saturday, May 22, with the Rev. Michael Qualls officiating. Burial was at Gum Springs Cemetery.

William Harrell (Bill) Smith, 65, of Sherwood, died Thursday, Oct. 21, at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

A graduate of Little Rock High School and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, he retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone as an accountant. He was an active member of Sherwood First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; mother, Velma Metcalf; one son and daughter-in-law, Pete and Shannon Smith; two grandsons, Peter and Wesley Smith; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 23, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home with the Revs. Dennis Smith and Paul McClung officiating. Burial was at Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Alexander.

William C. Smith Jr., 75, of North Little Rock, a longtime life insurance agent with American National Life, Prudential and as an independent who consistently attained Leadership Roundtable status, died Thursday, Dec. 17. He was a graduate of Little Rock High, Little Rock Junior College and Southern Methodist University. A veteran of World War II, he received the Navy Commendation Medal.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey J. Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Jerry Smith; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry C. and Nanci Smith of Castle Rock, Colo., Gary L. and Rebecca Smith of Little Rock, Steven D. Smith and Misty Smith of Little Rock, and Tracy T. and Shawn Smith of LaPlace, La.; stepson and daughter-in-law, Butch and Donna Isom; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Harold D. and Calvin Smith, both of Little Rock; and sister Jeanette Clutter of New Mexico.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 19, in the Griffin Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home chapel. Burial was at Rest Hills Memorial Park.; nlrt12/31/1998

SmithWilliam T.William T. Smith, 70, of North Little Rock, died Friday, August 1. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mr. Smith was also a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Remington Arms after 45 years of service. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Smith.

He is survived by his wife Joanne Kinney Smith; three sons, James Smith and Matthew Smith both of North Little Rock and David Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two daughters, Amy Smith of North Little Rock and Debra Luber of Biloxi, Miss., and two grandchildren.

Rosary services were held Sunday, August 3 at the North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel.
