He served a term as alderman from his ward, was at one time city attorney for Little Rock and at the recent general election was elected a member of the House of Representatives from Pulaski county, being selected as one of the candidates by the citizens of Little Rock. He was a man of studious habits and spent much of his time at his home in reading, his extensive library affording him an opportunity of indulging in a wide range of study. He numbered among his intimate friends men who figured prominently in the history of Arkansas during the past half century.

His home a commodious log house, occupying the center of a 40-acre tract of land west of Forest park, surrounded by a dense growth of pine and other forest trees-was provided with every comfort and convenience, and was one of the most hospitable in the state.
