DodsonLamarLamar Barnwell Dodson, aged 73 of Cabot, son of the late Hendrix and Genevieve Dodson, and grandson of Cabot pioneer merchants Jack and Neva Barnwell, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 1996.

He was a retired feature writer and reporter for the Cabot Star-Herald.

An aircraft enthusiast and pilot, Lamar served in the Army Air Corp in the Philippines for the duration of World War II. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a Shriner.

A lover of history, in 1979 Lamer founded the first Cabot Historical Society. He was well known for his fine furniture craftsmanship in the 1970s and his freelance wedding photography in the 1950s. Lamar was a projectionist for the first Cabot theatre.

At the age of 51, Lamar was an amateur filmmaker and made a 1938 film of downtown Cabot and its local merchants which remains in his personal historic archives.

His interest in media continued and he helped introduce television to the Cabot area by supplying Barnwell Hardware Store with some of the town's first sets.

A spirited student of astronomy and follower of America's space program, Lamar instructed his son and cousin in building their own six-inch telescope and observatory in order to follow the 1969 moon landing.

He was a lifelong member of the Cabot Methodist Church, grandson of Methodist minister F.E.Dodson and Molly Dodson, a Methodist Youth Fellowship leader and Boy Scout leader in the 1960's.

He is survived by his wife, Constance Howell Dodson, and his children, Deborah, Brent and Jo Claire, all of Cabot.
