Provinces and Territories in Canada were settled at different times. Immigrants to Canada arrived from many countries like England, Scotland, Ireland, U.S.A., Germany. You will want to search off-site ships passenger lists arriving in Canada for your immigrant ancestors.

Each Canadian province kept genealogy records starting at different times. Not all have survived. If your ancestors were Loyalists, that is refugees from the American Revolution who fled to Ontario, Nova Scotia, Quebec or New Brunswick you need to search off-site for Loyalist Genealogy records.

The Paper Trail - Finding Ancestors in Old Canadian Documents

This little corner of Olive Tree Genealogy is for miscellaneous old papers and documents. That's why I call it The Paper Trail. The documents I'm collecting for researchers are varied - land grants, Civil War enlistment papers, military pay lists, receipts for items bought and sold, funeral expenses, court and legal documents, slave records, tax bills, receipts, indentures, etc I have scans of the actual papers online for you to read. You can copy them to your own computer for your own use, but don't put them up on other websites.
