Sanders, Frances Jane - was born Sept
18, 1825 and came to Oregon from MO. She was married to Lewis Tycer
and their children were: Mary Susan;William Belfield (d.on Oregon Trail)
Eliza Isabel;Lewis Berry;Columbus Byron; Sanders Ballard;
Sarah Ellen; and George Benton.
Sargent, John Ward - was married to Dorcas
Maude Bryant and their children were: James D and Earnest Leroy Sargent
both born in Chicago.
John and Dorcas Bryant of MA met and married at medical school in Chicago.
Their sons were born in 1918 and 1920. The family returned to ORegon,
setting up practice in Portland, OR. John retired in 195- building
a home in Cannon Beach, OR and treating patients part-time out of his home.
He served on the Cannon Beach Shcool Board and was elected mayor when Cannon
Beach incorporated. He died in 1968 and Dorcas lived to be 101 passing
away in 1997.
SCOTT, John - was born September 14, 1802
and before comming to Oregon lived in KY and IA. John and Temperance
had amoung their children a daughter named Emily.
SHIELDS, James - was born December
5, 1811 in Bourban Co., KY,. James married his first wife Matilda
Crowley in 1842 in Andrew Co., MO she died in 1854 and was the mother of
his first four children. His second wife was Sarah Cotton.
He homestead SE of Scio but lived in Albany most of his life. He
had a wooden leg which was reportedly the result of a snake bite he sustained
on the Trail. He represented Linn co., at the Oregon Constitutional
Convention. He died 1888 in Albany.James came to Oregon from Andrew
Co., Missouri. He had the following children: Mary Ellen Dorris,
Enoc George, Benjamin F., Thomas J. to his first wife Matilda and to his
second wife Sarah he had: William H., Matilda Merwin, Fannie Young,
James A., and Virginia.
Shrum, Nicholas - was born September
5, 1803 and came to Oregon from MO. His children were: : John
W, Henry,Thomas, Euphama,Ruhama, Mary, Nicholas, Jeffery B,
and Andrew J.
Skinner, Eugene PioneerName: Skinner,
Eugene Franklin was born September 13, 1809. He came to Oregon from
Wisconsin. His wife was Mary Cook and their children were: BB Phoebe,
BL St. John, Amelia R
Founder of Eugene City, Oregon in 1852. Mr. Skinner and his family
joined a company going to California. The company wintered at Sutter's
Fort and in the Spring of 1846 journeyed to Oregon. In June, 1846 Mr. Skinner
established a donation land claim and a small cabin on the west side of
Skinner's Butte (or Ya-Po-Ah). There he founded the town of Eugene City,
Oregon on June 6, 1853. The city was incorporated in 1862 and later changed
its name to simply Eugene.
SMITH,Michael -was born Marach 24,
1812 and came to Oregon from Iowa. He and his wife had the following
children
John R., William James, Elizabeth E., Matthew C., Oliver T.
Michael Green, M.D. Lafayette, Mary Ellen, and Adam Asbury.
Michael settled near Tangent.
Spawr,Isaac - Came to Oregon from
IL and with his wife had the following children Lewis H. Spawr; Mary E.
Spawr; and Peter M. Spawr.: Isaac is my great grandfather's older
brother; he was born in Illinois, migrated to Oregon in 1853, at about
the same time other members of the family moved to Iowa.
