Class of 1973 and 1972 Reunion 2003

Heppner High School Class of 1972 and 1973

2003 Reunion

In ’72 and ’73, we all imagined who we’d be, where we’d go,
and how we would change the world after graduation.

The long and winding road of life has taken us in many different
 directions.

Some have followed the road, weathered  the detours,
 and achieved their heart’s desire.

Others have taken many paths, and are still searching
 for their life’s fire.

No matter what life’s road has presented to you, may you….

Have the will and strength to continue your journey along
  the road.

Have heart enough to hold on to the joys of life.

Imagine your dreams… because we can still help
  shape the world.

But most of all… remember the precious memories we
All make and hold are worth so much more
  than silver and gold.

We realized we forgot to mention some important information for the HHS Class of 1973 and wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of those who attended the reunion to make it a special event! And for those that were unable to attend, we wanted to let you know about the gathering and all the news.

There were "golfers" and "chatters". The "chatters" began their afternoon with Diane Hendrick and Kay Alldritt driving up in Diane's really cool car. It was a special time with appearances from Lisa Gifford, Kerry Pettyjohn, Dale and Bobbette Hedman, Jeff Marshall and Rick Drake, Marie Lane came all the way from Wisconsin and arrived with Kelly Hale.

As the golfers came up on the fifth green, the "chatters" had a difficult task of recognizing those "golfers" with their shades and baseball caps. But Greg Green, Alan McCabe, David Eckman and Lloyd Wilson magically came into focus as they approached the chatters. It was an afternoon of reminiscence and catching up with all that has happened over the past thirty years. A lot more photos of grandchildren were showing up this time!

Thanks to Shanny Miller, Tricia Gunderson, BarbWatkins, Luane Hurl, Tami Sneddon, Sherry Kemp and Patty Matheny, your reunion committee, for providing the afternoon snacks and hosting the get-together. Also thank you to Don and Tami Sneddon for sharing their home for the afternoon.

The evening at the Heppner Elks was a success with a great dinner and an "oldies" DJ from Cherry FM in the Tri-Cities. With a few drinks under our belts, a good time was had by those who danced up a storm, well chicken danced up a storm, (or just jumped), and the non-stop chatter from those still trying to get their life stories out in less than 12 hours.

It was great to see additional classmates at the evening festivities including Carol Hughes, Joan Hays, Joan McDaniel, Diana Hoeft, Sharon Loftus, Beverly Crum, Janet Greenup, Barb Coiner, Jim Cutsforth, Mike Sweek, Bill Jepsen and Todd Cox.  We all have had our ups and downs but the reunion is to share the good times.

We were happy to combine our reunion with the Class of 1972. Many that attended that we hadn't seen for over 30 years!

Thanks Dale for your MC work. Especially thanks for keeping it brief. We did have a few moments of silence in memory of our lost classmates, Linda Baker and David Cox, and the Class of 72's John Sumner.

Mrs. Inez Meador Miller also attended the evening festivities. She always enjoys hearing from students and telling her stories. She celebrated her 80th birthday on September 4, 2003.

You can tell our age is catching up with us. Most reported that it took a day or two to recover from the big weekend.

News to know.

We forgot to mention that several years ago we purchased a tree for the Class of '73. The City of Heppner was doing their Main Street renovation and everyone had an opportunity to buy a tree to be planted on Main Street. Our tree is a flowering crabapple located across the street from the museum/library building. There is a brick located by the tree that says "Imagine....Class of 1973". We take turns putting lights on the tree every Christmas Season. If you would like to help decorate sometime, contact Barb Watkins.  Thanks to her dad Cal, for helping out too!

We had a donation can for extra expenses of the reunion to help pay for DJ and other expenses. We still had funds from previous reunions, but not quite enough to cover all the costs. This years donations totaled $167.00. We paid for ½ the DJ cost and gratuity for those that volunteered their time to serve us at the Elk's Club. We still have remaining money for our next reunion. We also will give a memorial contribution for Linda Baker who died of cancer this past year. If you have any questions about these expenditures, please feel free to contact Tricia Gunderson, BarbWatkins or Tami Sneddon.

Thanks to Kathleen Bartlett for the great poem.  We were sorry she was unable to attend.

We also received email from Avery "Butch" Taylor, Kathleen Bartlett Steele, and Debbie Peck VanCleave, letting us know how they are doing and sending their regrets for not being able to attend. David Winters was also unable to attend because of previous commitments.

We really missed those not able to attend: Butch, Kathleen, Debbie, David and Patty Daly, Benham Malcom, James McLachlan, Tracie Bunch, David Schwarzin, Gary Wilhelm, Jilll Struckmeier, Carmen Looslie, Mary Abrams, and Peggy Stewart!

Hope we haven't forgot someone... if so, oops, send me a note.
