Hello! My name is Beth (it's really Elizabeth) Perry Johnston, your Hood River County Coordinator for Oregon GenWeb. Although I now live in Newport, Oregon, I was born and grew up in the Pine Grove area of Hood River County and retain a keen interest in its life and history.

Originally a part of Wasco County, Hood River County gained its political separation on June 23,1908 and its boundaries have remained unchanged to the present time. When doing research involving documents prior to the date Hood River became a county, you may find that the records you are searching for will be in Wasco County or the Oregon State Archives rather than in the Hood River County courthouse.

In addition to giving helpful research leads, we would like to get as many Hood River County records as possible transcribed and online. If you would like to help,  have any information to share, or have suggestions or links that you feel belong on these pages you can contact me via email. Please use "Hood River" as the subject heading of your email so I can identify it and get to it as soon as possible. Do check back with us often to see the changes here, and feel free to take advantage of the search feature found at the bottom of the right-hand column.

Special Note 3-23-08:
We are in transition from one server to another, so please feel free to let me know about any non-working links or other problems you encounter. The search engine may be temporarily unavailable as we make this move, and the visit counter and guest book are temporarily disabled.

Gold StarThanks to the many people who have contributed information for this web site, in September, 2006, the Hood River County page was named one of two USGenWeb sites of the month. The award story in the USGenWeb September Newsletter gives several reasons for the award and specifically cites the data-laden contributions by Jeffrey Bryant and Jeffrey Elmer. The story about the award is midway through the Newsletter; If you're not up to reading that far just search for the words Hood River. Thank you all!

When this page moved to its new site 23 Mar 2008, the counter showed 12,206 visits had been made here. As soon as a new counter is found, we'll start with that number again and go forward!
