I'm a Fitzhugh researcher tracing the family from Hugh who d. about 1223 in England to Wm. the Immigrant (1651-1701) who came to VA in 1671 to all over the USA and esp. the descendants of Solomon Fitzhugh, many of whom ended up in Curry Co as did he. Looking at the info about Emily Fitzhugh this is what I have:

Descendants of Emily W. Huntley

Generation No. 1

1. EMILY W.1 HUNTLEY was born 29 March 1848 in Meigs Co., OH. She married (1) J.W. CANFIELD 1859. He died 1882. She married (2) JOHN FITZHUGH 22 April 1886 in Curry Co., OR, son of SOLOMON FITZHUGH and POLLY DICKEY. He was born 10 August 1835 in MO, and died 06 July 1903 in OR.

Notes for EMILY W. HUNTLEY: Emily moved to Curry Co., OR in 1868. She taught school in Curry Co, was the Co. School Superintendent 1892-94. She was the Postmaster in Port Orford 1897. Emily moved with her parents to IL in 1847. She was educated in Carthage IL, and was married to J.W. Canfield on Nov 17 1859. She had 5 children, 2 boys and 3 girls. Her husband died January 1882. She married John. Fitzhugh in 1886. She arrived in OR in Nov 1868 and settled in Curry Co. on a pre-emption claim, about 6 miles above Ellensburg (now Gold Beach), on Rogue River, and continued to live there until 1890. ("Pioneer History of Coos and Curry Counties, OR" by Orvil Dodge Second Edition 1969)

Notes for JOHN FITZHUGH: John Fitzhugh was the son of Solomon Fitzhugh, brother of Nancy Katherine Fitzhugh Martindale.

From the papers of Mary Trowbridge Elkins: "John Fitzhugh was a civil engineer and draftsman by trade, also a columnist, artist, and poet. Of him Frank A. Steward, for many years owner and editor of the Port Orford Tribune, wrote: 'He was the most versatile man I ever knew---the very brightest man I ever walked with----In him flashed more different lights of genius than in any man I ever met. With a heart as tender as the gentlest women's there burned the valor of a medieval knight. His wit was boundless as his knowledge, and he was the best story teller I ever knew, not excepting Nesmith, Gazely (?), or Signlin. In music, in literature, in art, in the sciences, he seemed as proficient as in mathematics---and he was the best mathematician I ever knew. He seemed a consummate master of all knowledge, all science, all mechanics: and had his lines fallen in places congenial to such universality of talent, he would easily have been one of the greatest men of the world. Of all the men I ever met I consider him the most learned, and I often said to him that it was impossible for him to have acquired so much by study----that he got it by absorption, by the inspiration of genius! ' "

From Stephenie Flora at the OR State Archives: "John b. 1835 MO was a surveyor. He appears to be a Bachelor because he is always found living with one family member or another. I do have record of a marriage between a John Fitzhugh and Emily Canfield, 22 Apr. 1886, Curry County but the 1900 census shows him living with his nephew Richard Melvin Fitzhugh, and there is no mention of a wife."

Children of EMILY HUNTLEY and J.W. CANFIELD are:
