     Alexander H. BURT, son of John BURT and Hannah (?), was born circa 1824 in Georgia.1 He was also known as Alexander R.

His father died in September 1827 in Autauga County, Alabama. He was only about three years old.2

On 26 January 1829 John Huddleston was named guardian of Burrows H. BURT, Elizabeth BURT, Margaret Marshall BURT and Francina H. BURT in Autauga County, Alabama. Burrow, Margaret and Francina were listed as heirs of John Burt, and Alex H. and Elizabeth were listed as infant heirs.3,4

On 22 February 1830 John Huddleston was still the guardian of Burrows H. BURT, Alexander H. BURT, Elizabeth BURT, Francina H. BURT and Margaret Marshall BURT in Autauga County, Alabama.5

On 23 March 1833 Alexander R. Hutchinson was named the new guardian of Alexander H. BURT, Elizabeth BURT, Francina H. BURT and Margaret Marshall BURT in Autauga County, Alabama.

Alexander H. BURT was listed as one of the heirs to the estate of Burrows H. BURT 10 February 1838 in Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama. He received $106 as his share of the final settlement. Alexander R. Hutchinson was reported as his guardian.7

Alexander H. BURT was listed as a resident in Henry H. BURT's household in the census report on 14 September 1850 in Carroll County, Mississippi. Alexander, age 25, no occupation listed, was living with his Aunt and Uncle. Also in the household was his future wife, Ann Burt, age 15. He was recorded as born in Alabama.8

Alexander married Ann R. BURT, daughter of Henry H. BURT, on 3 September 1854 in Carroll County, Mississippi.9

Alexander and Ann R. BURT appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 4 October 1860 in Duckhill, Carroll County, Mississippi. The household was listed as Alexander Burt, a 36 year old farmer, and his 26 year old wife, Ann R. Burt. Both were born in Alabama. He had real estate valued $5,500 and personal proberty valued $5,000. They had two children: John H. Burt, age 5, and Robert R. Burt, age 3 months.

Alexander began military service on 10 September 1863 in Granada, Mississippi, Culbertson's Battery, Mississippi Light Artillery. He was enlisted by Col. Patrick. He was discribed as 6 fot 10 inch tall, sallow complexion, hazel eyes and dark hair. He was 39 years old at the time of enlistment and born in Autauga county, Alabama. He was discharged in January 1864 due to illness.

Alexander was included on a tax list in October 1866 in Duckhill, Carroll County. He was taxed $2.00 for 150 swine. Also listed in Duckhill was R. F. Burt, who was taxed $123.09 for cotton. This could be Ann's brother Robert Burt.

Alexander R. BURT and Ann R. BURT appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 12 June 1880 in Montgomery County, Mississippi. The household was listed as A. R. Burt, a 55 year old farmer, and wife A. R. Burt, age 46. Their children were sons W. Burt, 18; J. Burt, 10; R. Burt, 8, and W. Burt, 6.
