Mary Cleveland WILSON

     Mary Cleveland WILSON, daughter of John WILSON and Harriett BROWN, was born on 3 December 1837 in Alabama. She was also known as Mary Catherine.

Mary married Joab Marion LANGSTON, son of Obediah LANGSTON and Virginia E. McELROY, on 5 June 1853 in Bibb County, Alabama. Henry Kerbo, M.G. performed the service. They couple made their home and farmed on Six Mile Creek.^1,2

Mary Cleveland WILSON and Joab Marion LANGSTON appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 1866 in Bibb County, Alabama. The household was listed as 2 males 10-20 [James, Marion], 1 male 30-40 [Joab], 3 females under 10 [Harriet, ?], and 1 female 20-30 [Mary Catherine]. They lived in township 23, range 11 east.³

Mary Cleveland WILSON died on 13 February 1924 in Bibb County, Alabama, at age 86.^4,5 She was buried in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Her obituary appeared 21 February 1924 in the The Centreville Press, published in Centreville, Alabama. Old Resident Dead --- Mrs. Mary Cleveland Langston, wife of the late Rev. Joab Langston, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Thomas, last week, and was buried by the side of her husband at Six Mile.

Mrs. Langston at the time of her death was 88 years of age, and was a devoted mother and Christian woman.

She leaves a number of children, Mrs. W. H. Thomas and A. W. Langston of Ashby, Prof. J. M. Langson of Six Mile, Manley Langston of Birmingham, M. D. Langston of Lineville, Rev. Isaac Langston of Texas, David Langston of Sherman, Miss., and Mrs. Smtherman of Louisiana.

She was a devout Baptist, and her funeral was largely attended by many relatives and friends.⁶
