Hezekiah saw military service between 1861 and 1865 in Co. C, 48th Illinois Infantry (Union.)
On 7 July 1862 Hezekiah died of typhoid in a army hospital in Monterey, Putnam County, Tennessee, of typhoid in a army hospital leaving Susan a widow.1,2 He was buried in Brushy Cemetery, Harco, Saline County, Illinois.1
