     Henry W. BROWN, son of Edmund BROWN Jr. and Appy Barfield, was born on 5 October 1815 in Marlboro County, South Carolina.1

He was probably the male age 10 to 15 listed in the household of his father, Edmund BROWN Jr., in the 1830 Federal Census of Bibb County, Alabama.2 He and Dr. Albert BROWN M.D. appeared on a 1846 tax list along with their father, Edmund BROWN Jr., in Kemper County, Mississippi.

Henry W. BROWN appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 1850 in Holmes County, Mississippi. The household was listed as Henry W. Brown, a 37-year-old farmer and native of South Carolina. His wife was 26-year-old Nancy F. Brown, a native of Mississippi. He owned real estate valued at $6,500. Their children were Mary 10, Robert 8, Susan 6 and Lucy 2. They were all born in Mississippi. Living with them was Andrew J. Keale, a 28-year-old overseer from Alabama.

Henry W. BROWN appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 12 October 1850 in Kemper County, Mississippi. The household was listed as Henry Brown, 38-year-old farmer, and Jane, his 30-year-old wife, both from South Carolina. Henry owned real estate valued at $480. Their children were Henry 14, William 12, and Sally 10. The two boys were born in Alabama and Sally in Mississippi.3
