Rev. John ABNEY, son of James D. ABNEY and Tabitha Towles, was born in 1824 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.1 He was a Methodist Episcopal minister between 1850 and 1860 in Rusk and Bosque counties, Texas.
John saw military service between 1861 and 1865 in Texas as captain and later assistant quartermaster of 30th Texas Cavalry and Company F (Gurley's) 1st Texas Partisan Rangers.1
Rev. John ABNEY died after 1870 in Bosque County, Texas.1 He was buried in Meridian Cemetery, Meridian, Bosque County, Texas.
