James G. FINDLEY

M, b. 1829
     James G. FINDLEY, son of Charles P. FINDLEY and Sarah BISHOP, was born in 1829 in Alabama. He was a farmer.

James married Obedience Catherine BROWN, daughter of David Leggett BROWN and Elizabeth HALLMARK, on 12 July 1855 in Bibb County, Alabama. The service was preformed by P. Wallace, J. P.1

James began military service on 8 February 1862 in Randolph, Bibb County, Alabama, where he enlisted at age 33 in Co. H 29th Alabama Infantry, CSA. He was promoted to Third Corporal, later demoted to private. He was on duty at Camp Lee, Pollard, Alabana during March and April 1863, detailed as a clerk and wardmaster in General Hospital Nott, Mobile 28 July 1863. He was elected Second Lieutenant but rejected by the Examining Board.He was captured 14 May 1865 by Gen. Lucas' 3rd Cavalry Brigade in west Mississippi and paroled on the march from Montgomery to Vicksburg.
