     Joel Richard ABNEY Jr., son of Joel Richard ABNEY and Nannie M. Clark, was born on 4 October 1895.1 He was also known as Dick. He was a cotton mill owner.

During World War I, Joel Richard ABNEY Jr. enlisted in the 323rd Infantry Regiment of the 81st Division circa 1914. He was a 2nd lieutenant.

Joel married Julia Cade circa 1916 in Greenwood County, South Carolina.1

Joel Richard ABNEY Jr. died on 4 June 1959 in Greenwood County, South Carolina, at age 63.1 He was buried in Edgewood Cemetery, Greenwood, South Carolina.1
