     William Azariah ABNEY Jr., son of William Azariah ABNEY and Mary Ann Stone, was born on 12 August 1880 in Livingston, Sumter County, Alabama.1

William Azariah ABNEY Jr. appeared on a census, enumerated 1 April 1900, in the household of his parents Azariah ABNEY and Mary Ann Stone in Leesburg, Lake County, Florida. He was recorded as William Abney, age 22, born August 1878.

William Azariah ABNEY Jr. appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 15 April 1910 in Leesburg, Lake County, Florida. The household was listed as William Abney, a 33-year-old hardware salesman, and his two sisters, Cora McCormack, 39, married 22 years, mother of two children, one living, and Irma Abney, 22, single.

With no end in sight for World War I, the United States instituted it's third and final registration. It included all men who were between the ages of 18 and 21, and 31 to 45 years of age. This added younger men than the previous registrations, those who were born between September 12, 1897 and September 12, 1900; and added an older group of men, born between September 12, 1873 and September 12, 1888. William filled out a draft card on 12 September 1918 in Tavares, Lake County, Florida. His occupation was hardware salesman for A. B. Lees in Leesburg. His nearest relative was Mrs. Elizabeth Abney. He was described as medium heighth and build, with brown eyes and black hair.1

William Azariah ABNEY Jr. died on 29 May 1920 in Leesburg, Lake County, Florida, at age 39.2 He was buried on 30 May 1920 in Lone Oak Cemetery, Leesburg, Lake County, Florida.

William Azariah ABNEY Jr. appeared in a newspaper article 2 June 1920 in the Tampa Tribune, published in Tampa, Florida. William A. Abney is Dead at Leesburg -- June 1 (Special), William A. Abney died Saturday at 8:15 p.m., at his house on Lime street. He had been ill but a few days and it was not generally known that his condition was serious. Mr. Abney was well known in this section of the state, having lived here since boyhood. His parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. A. Abney moved here from Alabama thirty-one years ago. He was almost fourty-two years of age at the time of his death.

Mr. Abney was married to Miss Elizabeth Hunter two years ago. His wife, with one small son, Billy, Jr., survive him. He is also survived by five sisters, Mrs. Cora McCormack, Mrs. A. H. Medlin, Mrs. A. B. Lees, and Miss Irma Abney, all of Leesburg, and Mrs. H. B. Bardwell of Havana, Cuba.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the home on Lime street, conducted by Rev. H. F. Harris.
