Dovie Casey, 1848-1967
     Dovie CASEY, daughter of James Thomas CASEY and Almira Jane BROWN, was born on 28 December 1875 in Centreville, Bibb County, Alabama. She was described as shorter and darker than he sister, Mary. Dovie was also the more outspoken of the pair.

Dovie CASEY appeared on a census, enumerated 1 June 1880, in the household of her parents James Thomas CASEY and Almira Jane BROWN in Bibb County, Alabama. She was listed as daughter, Dovie Casey, age 4.1

Mary Ida BROWN and Dovie CASEY appeared in a newspaper article 27 July 1899 in the Centreville Press, published in Cemtreville, Alabama. Local News-- Miss Ida Brown, of Birmingham, is visiting Miss Dovie Casey.

Dovie CASEY appeared on a census, enumerated 2 June 1900, in the household of her father James Thomas CASEY in Centreville, Bibb County, Alabama. She was recorded as daughter, Dovie Casey, age 24.2

Dovie CASEY appeared on a census, enumerated 19 April 1910, in the household of James Thomas CASEY in Centreville, Bibb County, Alabama. The household was listed as J. Thomas Casey, 64-year-old widower and retail merchant, and his daughters Dovie, a 34-year-old sales lady in her father's dry goods store, and 25-year-old Mary who was not working at that time. Living with them was James' sister-in-law, Addie Barnes, a 78-year-old widow with no children.3

Dovie CASEY and Frances Dorothy BROWN appeared in a newspaper article 8 October 1916 in the Montgomery Advertiser, published in Montgomery, Alabama. Centreville Society-- Mr. S. G. I. Burdin and Misses Dovie Casey, Frances Brown and Grace Avery motored to Montevallo Thursday afternoon, returning to Centreville last night.

Dovie CASEY appeared on a census, enumerated 14 January 1920, in the household of James Thomas CASEY in Centreville, Alabama. The household was listed as James T. Casey, 70 widower and owner of a retail grocery; and his two daughters: Dovie, 44, and Mary, 37, who were sales ladies in his store. James owned their home on Court Street.4

Dovie CASEY appeared on a census, enumerated 9 April 1930, in the household of James Thomas CASEY in Centreville, Alabama. The household was listed as J. Thomas Casey, 78, a widower and owner of a general store; and his two daughters and sales ladies, Dovie, 52, and Mary, 45. James owned their home on Court Street which had a value of $4,000. He was listed as a veteran of the War Between the States.5

Dovie CASEY and Mary CASEY operated their father's store and rooming house after their parents deaths. The rooming house was located at 129 North Courthouse Square in Centreville, next to the county jail.

Dovie CASEY died on 15 March 1967 in Centreville, Bibb County, Alabama, at age 91.6,7 She was buried in Centreville Memorial Cemetery.
