Harriett's obituary was printed on 6 September 1906 in the Centreville Press newspaper, published in Centreville, Alabama. It read: "Death of Grandma Perry--- Mrs. Harriet G. Perry, the aged and beloved mother of our fellow townsman, Mr. W. W. Perry, passed away at the home of the latter on Monday evening at 8 o'clock, Sept. 3rd 1906, after an illness of three weeks, aged 82 years, 10 months and 4 days.

After a short service at the family residence on Tuesday morning, the remains were conveyed to the Brown grave yard, near Rocky [Enon Baptist] church, where a large concourse of relatives and old friends met to pay a last sad tribute to one who had lived a long useful life and endeared herself to many. The impressive service was conducted by Rev. D. P. Lee, of the Baptist church, the deceased having been from girlhood a member of that church. Thus the good woman found a last and final resting place near the place of her birth and the home of her childhood.

Mrs. Perry was a daughter of the late David L. Brown, a pioneer citizen who lived four miles from Centreville, near Rocky Church, and who is remembered by old citizens as a prominent and useful man in his day, being sometimes sheriff and sometimes deputy sheriff of the county for many years. He was also the father of our veteran citizen, Mr. W. H. Brown.

Mrs. Perry was twice married, her first husband being Samuel P. McSpadden, the last, M. A. Perry, both of whom long since preceded her to the grave. She was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom lived to be grown and she thus leaves many near relatives to mourn her loss and cherish her memory. May she rest in peace."
