     William Henry ABNEY, son of Samuel ABNEY and Mary RILEY, was born circa 1816 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.1

William married first Sarah Ann Sanders on 16 July 1846 in Monroe County, Alabama. J. Deloach posted the security and Joseph Mitchell, minister, performed the nuptials.2

Sarah died in July 1849 in Monroe County, Alabama, of flux leaving William Henry ABNEY as a widower. She had been sick for two weeks.3

William Henry ABNEY was listed as a resident in George Washington Riley's household in the census report on 6 December 1850 in Monroe County, Alabama. The household was listed as George Riley, a 70 year old farmer born in North Carolina. [George Washington Riley 1780-1857 was the brother of Mary Riley, William's mother] He had real estate valued $400. Also Nancy Riley, age 52 from Virginia, Ginonettia Riley, a 13 year old female born Alabama, and William Abney, a 34 year old farmer born in South Carolina. He had real estate valued $800.

William married second Elizabeth S. Sanders on 20 November 1851 in Monroe County, Alabama. Daniel McColl posted the security and the service was performed by William Longmire, JP.1,2

Elizabeth died in 1857 in Pineville, Monroe County, Alabama, leaving William Henry ABNEY as a widower.4

William Henry ABNEY appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 23 June 1860 in Burnt Corn, Monroe County, Alabama. The household was listed as William Abney, a 43 year old farmer with personal property valued $2000 and real estate $6000. He was born in South Carolina. Also in the household was George Abney age 6 and Polly Abney age 5.

William saw military service in 1862 in Monroe County, Alabama, as a private in the 35th Alabama Infantry. In 1864 he was listed in the 4th Alabama Reserves at age 48.

William Henry ABNEY died on 29 January 1892 in Pineville, Monroe County, Alabama.1,4 He was buried in Indian Springs Baptist Cemetery, Beatrice, Monroe County, Alabama.
