Lancelot Edward Guy Abney, son of Sir William de Wiveleslie Abney K. C. B. and Agatha Matilda Smith, was born on 4 February 1868.1 He graduated in 1889 at Trinity College in Cambridge University, England.
He inherited Measham Hall following the death of his father in 1920. He sold the estate to Measham Colliery. The colliery workings later undermined the house, which had to be demolished because of subsidence in 1959.
