     Joel ABNEY, son of Azariah ABNEY and Mary Ann POPE, was born on 30 November 1806 in South Carolina.1

Joel ABNEY was named an heir in the will of Joel P. ABNEY dated 3 February 1811 in Edgefield District, South Carolina. I give and bequeath to Joel Abney, son of my brother Azariah Abney, one hundred dollars to be paid to him on his arriving at the age of twenty-one years.2

Joel married Martha Coleman circa 1827 in Edgefiled (now Saluda) County, South Carolina.1,3

On 13 February 1838 Joel died in Saluda Old Town, Saluda County, South Carolina, at age 31 leaving Martha a widow.1 He was buried in Joel Abney Cemetery, near Newberry. Take 121 toward Newberry. Go 11 miles to Clifford Coleman on your right, cemetery is in the woods about a mile on toward Newberry. There is no road.1

Joel ABNEY was named an heir in the will of Azariah ABNEY dated 1843 in Edgefield, South Carolina. "Sixtly, I give to the children of my deceased son Joel Abney, to wit, John, Mathew, Elizabeth and Joel, the tract of land on which their mother Martha Abney now lives, share and share alike, the number of acres not known, bounded by 2 lines starting at the corner of the garden, from.4
