During War of 1812, George Washington POPE, Sampson POPE and Elijah POPE enlisted in the South Carolina Militia in Edgefield County. The History of Edgefield by John Abney Chapman tells a story of ''brothers" George and Sampson Pope. They are listed in Capt. Zachary Brooks' Company, along with their brother Elijah Pope and with Joel Abney, husband of sister Elizabeth Pope, and Azariah Abney, husband of sister Mary Pope.
George Washington POPE died in 1855 in Attala County, Mississippi.
