George Dean Sr.

     George Dean Sr., son of William Dean, was born circa 1756 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

George Dean Sr. was included on a juror list in 1778 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. This would indicate that he must have been born by 1757.

During the American Revolution, George Dean Sr. enlisted in the South Carolina Militia. He served as a sergeant in the militia before and after the fall of Charleston. His three brothers were soldiers in the Third South Carolina Regiment; He was the brother of Absalom Dean who married Elizabeth "Charity" Melina Abney.

George Dean Sr. sold a tract of land to Samuel Beaks on 22 January 1795 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Both lived in Edgefield county, but Beaks was formerly from Newberry county. For 92 pounds he sold 100 acres, being part of 300 acres originally granted 8 Jul 1774 to Ann Dean, mother of said George Dean, her heir, on Perryman Creek a branch of the Little Saluda River adjacent Denit [Dannett] Abney, John Brooks, Gaven Pou, and Isaac Decosts. It was witnessed by Thomas Reed, Dannitt Abney, Samuel (X) Abney, who sworn by oath before Nathaniel Abney, JP.1 He witnessed the sale of land from John ABNEY to an unknown person on 26 March 1802 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. George Dean Sr. appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 1810 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. The household was listed as One male 10-15, one male 45 or over [George Sr], one female 16-25, and one female 45 or over.
