     George F. WOODRUFF, son of Newton McDaniel WOODRUFF and Frances Maria ABNEY, was born in September 1839 in Centreville, Bibb County, Alabama.1,2 He was a school teacher.

George F. WOODRUFF appeared on a census, enumerated 6 August 1860, in the household of his mother Thomas Hamilton ABNEY in Randolph, Bibb (now Chilton) County, Alabama. They lived in the household of Thomas H. Abney. George was listed as 20 years old and a school teacher.3

George began military service at age 21 on 11 June 1861 in Centreville, Bibb County, Alabama, in company F, 11th Alabama Infantry. Engagements: Present at: Seven Pines 30-31 May 1862; Wounded: Salem Church 3 May 1863; Absent Furlough: Seven Pines 27 Jun 1862; Frasiers Farm 30 Jun 1862; 2nd Manassas 30 Aug 1862; Sharpsburg 16 Sep 1862; Captured: Gettysburg 2 Jun 1863. He spent the remainder of the war at Fort Delaware Prison. He was not released until 14 Jun 1865 and "suffered terribly."4

George F. WOODRUFF died on 22 August 1902 in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama, at age 62.2,4 He was buried in Forrest Cemetery.
