Abraham WATTS Sr.

     Abraham WATTS Sr., son of Dempsey WATTS Sr., was born in 1781 in Portsmouth, Norfolk County, Virginia.1

Abraham married Ann SMITH on 18 April 1803 in Portsmouth, Norfolk County, Virginia.1,2

Abraham WATTS Sr. appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 1 August 1810 in Norfolk County, Virginia. The household was listed as 2 males under 10 [Abraham, Jr., ???], 1 male 10-15 [???], 1 males 26-44 [Abraham 29], 1 female under 10 [Judith], 1 female 16-25 [Ann], and 6 slaves.3

During the War of 1812, Abraham WATTS Sr. enlisted as a private in Colonel Magnien's 7th Virginia Militia Regiment in Norfolk County. The information is recorded in National Archives microfilm roll 220 #602.

Abraham WATTS Sr. appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 7 August 1820 in Norfolk County, Virginia. The household was listed as 2 males under 10 [George, Thomas], 1 male 16-18 [Abraham, Jr.], 1 male 26-44 [Abram], 2 females under 10, 1 female 10-16 [Judith], 1 female 16-25, and 1 female 26-44 [Ann]. They had one male slave 26-45.4

Abraham WATTS Sr. appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 1 August 1830 in Portsmouth, Norfolk County, Virginia. The household was listed as 1 male 15-19, 1 male 40-49 [Abraham], 1 female under 5 [Caroline], 1 female 5-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 30-40 [Ann], and 11 slaves.

Abraham WATTS Sr. died in 1831.

Abraham left a will dated September 1830 in Norfolk County, Virginia. It was proved 20 Jan 1831. It names his wife, Mary, son George, son Thomas and daughter Judy Foster, wife of James Foster. He mentions "each of my younger children who may be under the age of 15."5
