"First burials were made on the home farm of the Webb pioneers. First cemetery
at Harriston was located on the Archie Harrison farm, at south end of town,
east of King Street.
Beginning in 1883, a new location was used - a higher piece of land on Jessie
Street. Many graves were moved from the old cemetery to the new one. In 1936,
the old cemetery was closed, and all graves were transferred, along with the
white marble slabs, which were arranged along the west driveway. In 1940, a
Cairn of field stones was erected, "In Memory of the Pioneers of Harriston and
Minto Township."
The little Chapel near the front gate was built in 1967 as a Centennial
project."
