The largest settlement today is the town of Milverton. There is also Peffers, Newton, Fernbank, Millbank, Burns, Carthage, Tralee, Hesson, Poole, Topping, Gravelridge, and North Mornington.Books Specific to Mornington townshipMornington and Its Pioneers, by Malcolm MacBeth, published in 1933 by the Milverton Sun, contains the following:History of Mornington; an article by Mrs Reid Allingham (dau of James Reid) called "Pioneer Days in Millbank"; "Milverton: Its Place in the Township"; Directory of Mornington, 1863-4; Pioneers (about 50 pages of biographies); St Marys Parish, Hesson. This book may be hard to find since it is old. I found it at the National Library in Ottawa. Paths of History: Milverton's 100th Anniversary, 1881-1981 was published in 1981. A Century of Progress: Mornington Centennial and Milverton Old Boys and Girls` Reunion, 1857-1957 was published in 1957. Mornington Township LinksThe Perth East website has pages on the History of Mornington Township and History of MilvertonHistory of Listowel, Milverton and Millbank Pioneers of MorningtonMornington began to be settled at about the same time as Elma township, that is, the late 1840s. It was not actually surveyed and opened for sale until 1850, but by this time there were already several people living there. Early settlers mentioned in the 1879 atlas (page xix) include John CHALMERS and his sons John, Adam and William, in 1843. Also in 1843 came Robert FORREST and a STRUTHERS, in 1844 the CONNELL family, James, John and Thomas. Millbank was founded in 1847 by John FREEBORN, and Morningdale the same year by John NICKLIN.
