Logan Township
Hamlets, Villages and TownsThe largest settlement in the area is Mitchell, which is on the border of the township. Another large-ish (well, large for this area!) is Monkton. There is also the following: Bornholm, Brodhagen, Kennicott, Willow Grove.I found this site with pictures of downtown Mitchell. Books Specific to Logan townshipHere's some info on the new Logan Township History Book. It is called Legacy of Logan.Judy and Dean Robinson have written Mitchell: A Reflection, published in 1987. James McCallum has written two good books on this area. One is An Echo of Monkton's Past, published in 1982. The other one is An Historic Look at the Township of Logan: Pride in our Past, Faith in Our Future, published in 1987. You will also find a book on Logan in Vera McNichol's series Reveries of a Pioneer. There's more information on this series on my Perth County Books page. PioneersThe 1879 atlas says that the first settler at Mitchell was John HICKS, who had a log tavern there. The atlas also mentions Francis SEIBERT, Patrick COLLINS and Edward LYNCH. Huron County Library has put online many assessment rolls for 1842. This is basically a list of residents of the area in 1842; it tells you who was living there and how much land they owned. Read their introduction first and then go to their Logan Township page. See also the new Perth County Pioneers page for visitors' submissions of their pioneer info.
