GEORGE KIYOSHI YAMADA
In loving memory of George Kiyoshi Yamada who died at Parkwood Hospital on Tuesday, July 5th, 2005. Mr. George Kiyoshi Yamada was most recently of London and in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Kathleen Cummingham Yamada. George will be missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. KATHLEEN (Katie Cunningham) YAMADA
Kathleen passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2009, after a long struggle with Alzheimers, with her daughter Evelyn and son-in-law John by her side. Katie is survived by her daughter Evelyn, sons Kim and Philip, grandchildren Ian and Jessica and sisters Carolyn Van Horne and Martha Mullin. Katie was born in Oxnard, California on February 12, 1929 to Kendra and Marshall F. McComb. She grew up in Santa Monica, and finished high school at The Bishop School in La Jolla. After finishing her degree at UCLA, she married Wilson Cunningham, and brought up her three children in South Pasadena. Katie enjoyed her first career as a teacher at the Sequoia School in Pasadena, and later in the Washington High School in East Los Angeles. Later she became a writer and assistant editor of Theosophy Magazine. In 1982, Katie emigrated to Toronto, married George Yamada, and together they lived for many years on Manitoulin Island and later in London, Ontario. In her final years, she lived at the Providence Health Care Centre in Toronto. Friends called at the Sherrin Funeral Home (873 Kingston Road) on Sunday, September 13 from 12:30 pm until the memorial service began at 1:30 pm. Her family would like to acknowledge the loving care and professional attention given to Katie by her caregiver Norma Charles, and all the staff at Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Providence Health Care Centre.

Yates, Lucienna Alberta
Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 25,2011 in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Edward (Ted) Yates (1999). Loving mother of Gail, John and his wife Miriam, Todd and his wife Donna, Susan and her husband John Foster, and the late Parker and James. Cherished grandmother of Michelle, Sean and his wife Christie, Gillian and her husband Chris, Jamie, Blair, Thomas, Ashley, and fiance Rob Pulkys, Anthony and fiance Danielle Hansma, Danielle, and Emillie, great grandmother of David, Edward, Claire, Tabitha, Owen, and Tristan. She will be sadly missed by her dog Katie. At the families request there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place. Interment of Cremated Remains will follow at Barrie Union Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

AGNES YOUNG
Young - Agnes, at the St. Joseph's Hospital, Blind River, Friday, October 31, 1980 in her 71st year.
Beloved wife of the late George Young, dear sister of Mary Kitchimokmon, and the late Agatha, also survived by eight nephews and 2 nieces.
She rested at the Menard Funeral Home, Blind River from 2 pm Sunday. Funeral service took place Monday at 11:30 am from St. James the Greater, Rev. A. Sebas, officiating. Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Blind River.

The Late Mr. David Young
David Young was born in the County of Haldimand near Caledonia in 1847 and was one of thirteen of a family. He was the son of the late Edmund and Helen Young. In 1879 he came to Manitoulin Island, and squatted on land near Meldrum Bay and built a little shanty which still remains. As soon as the land came into the market he purchased the farm which he had chosen for his home; and on this farm he resided nearly all the time until removed by death on June 24, 1922.
In 1883 he married Miss Charlotte Elmore who survives him, she being the only survivor of the five daughters of the late Dr. Hercules Elmore.
With the passing of Mr. Young another of the pioneers of the Manitoulin has gone to his rest. He was a kind husband, a good neighbor, a true and loyal citizen and a man who commanded the respect of a large circle of friends. In the early days the late Dr. A. Findley, Superintendent of Missions, for Northern Ontario made Mr. Young�s home his headquarters when he visited Meldrum Bay. Mr. Young had a kindly hospitable disposition by which he gained and retained many friends He was also a Justice of the Peace for about thirty-five years.
Two brothers, Peter and George, and two sisters predeceased him. Of the brothers and sisters who survive a twin brother, John, resides in Woodstock, Mrs. Daniels resides at Caledonia, Ont. Edmund is overseer in connection with the transportation of Chinese, and is at present in California, and Mrs. Nichols resides in Hamilton, Ont.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Wm. Munro under the maples at Mr. Young�s late home and the remains were interred in Meldrum Bay cemetery nearby. Mr. Young had gone to Sault Ste. Marie for medical treatment where he died but four hours after the operation for cancer of the bowels. Mrs. Young has the sympathy of the community in her bereavement.

YOUNG-Digby M. Young, a resident of Big Lake died at his residence on June 14, 1975. He was the beloved husband of Helena Ashley. He rested at St. Francis of Assissi Anglican Church, Mindemoya. The funeral service was from there on Tuesday, June 11, 1975 at 2:00 pm. Interment: Mindemoya Cemetery.

HELENA YOUNG
YOUNG, Helena - At Manitoulin Centennial Manor on Thursday June 24, 1993, formerly of Big Lake in her 99th year. Beloved wife of the late Digby Young. Dear mother of Kenneth (wife Marjorie) and the late Burton (wife Rosalie) all of Big Lake. Survived by seven grandchildren. Predeceased by brother Jim Ashley and sisters Martha Ashley, Dora Myers, Ruby Middaugh, Hattie Stewart and Violet Marshall.
Rested at Eagleson Funeral Home on Sunday. Funeral service held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church on Monday, June 28, 1993 at 11 am with Rev. C. Dee officiating. Interment in Mindemoya Cemetery.

JAMES YOUNG JR.
1933

Gore Bay mourns the passing of one of her sons in the person of James Young Jr., son of James Young and the late Mrs. Young whose death occurred so tragically last wee. Born on March 24th, 1910, and raised in the town, he was a general favourite, and his cheery presence will be greatly missed in the home. He attended the town school until the fishing industry in which his father had been engaged for some time, attracted him and he left school to assist him. A very faithful and willing worker, he found employment with various local fishermen, and also spent two seasons sailing on the Great Lakes. For the past three years he has been working with Edward Purvis at Providence Bay.
The surviving members of the family are his father, three sisters; Mrs. L. Nolan, Toronto, Mrs. Wm. Stoneman, Aurora, Mrs. A. Thompson, Gore Bay, and three brothers Oscar, Victoria, B.C. William, Toronto and George at home.

KENNETH KEPPLE YOUNG
In loving memory of Kenneth Kepple Young October 10, 1919 - April 10, 2004. Kenneth Young, a resident of the Wikwemikong Nursing Home and formerly of Big Lake, died at the Wikwemikong Nursing Home on Saturday, April 10, 2004 at the age of 84 years. He was born at Big Lake, son of the late Digby and Helena (Ashley) Young.
Ken was a quiet man and had farmed all his life in Big Lake. Ken enjoyed his life on the farm, gardening, feeding the deer, traveling through the bush to Windfall Lake and of course the fall deer hunt.
Loving husband of Marjorie (Porter) of Big Lake. Loving and loved father of Greg and wife Jennifer and Mark and wife Bonnie, both of Big Lake. Proud Poppa of Stacey, Amanda, Shanah and fianc�e Duke, Gabrielle, Ashley, Alison and Courtney. Great Poppa of Aryanna. Ken was predeceased by two brothers, Burton and Digby (infant). Also survived by two nieces and two nephews.
At the family's request a graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at 11 am at Mindemoya Cemetery, Mindemoya, with Reverend Mary Jo Eckert Tracy officiating. MARJORIE MAE YOUNG
March 22, 1926 - March 21, 2011
Marjorie was born in Marietta, Ohio and died at the Manitoulin Health Centre in Mindemoya on March 21, 2011, one day short of her 85th birthday. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Kenneth and her parents Harry and Grace(Miller) Porter. Marjorie graduated as a registered nurse from the St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Parkersburg, West Virginia. She nursed for several years in the US. After marrying Ken Young she moved to Big Lake and spent the rest of her nursing career at both the old and new Mindemoya hospitals, giving 32 years of dedicated nursing and patient care. She kept busy in retirement, but especially loved spending time with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed volunteering over the years at all the functions of the Big Lake School House. She was the recipient of the Vivian Levinson Award for volunteerism and was named Sandfield Township Citizen of the Year in 2000. Marjorie was a member of the United Missionary Church in Mindemoya and was strong in her beliefs. She will always be loved by her sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Jennifer Young and Mark and Bonnie Young both of Big Lake. Very special nana to Stacey (Allen), Amanda (Bill), Shanah (Duke), Gabby (Ken), Ashley (Chelsea), Alison (Luke) and Courtney (Matt). Loving great nana to Aryanna, Autumn, Bradley, Austin and Ayden. Marjorie was predeceased by her sister Ann Lou Tillery (Porter) and brother Ugene Porter. Survived and lovingly remembered by her brother Kennard L. Porter of Pensacola, Florida. Cherished sister-in-law of Marilyn (Bubba) of Pensacola Florida and the late Betty Porter. At Marjorie's request there will be no visitation. In loving memory of Martha Young (nee Boutet), 65 years, who passed away Friday morning, June 5th, 1998 at the Manitoulin Island Health Centre. Mrs. Young was a long time resident of Leask Bay, Manitoulin Island. She will always be remembered as a loving, caring and kind wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Beloved wife of Raymond Young of Leask Bay, Manitoulin Island. Loving mother of Wayne (wife Margaret), Robert (wife Margo) both of Onaping Falls, Morgan (wife Donna) of Edmonton, Chris (wife Evelyn) of British Columbia, Mitchell (of Winnipeg), Janice (husband Cameron Montgomery) of Barrie, and Carl (wife Sue) of Sudbury. Dear daughter of Armand Bout (predeceased) and Nora (Laroque) Boutet of Sudbury. Proud grandmother of Jennifer, Sandy, Jeffrey, Michael, Robert , Brent, Shannon, Adam, Erin, Megan, Lauren, and Shaun. Dear sister of Denise (predeceased) (husband David Organ) of Little Current, Michael Boutet (wife Jean predeceased) of Chelmsford, Peter Boutet (wife Jeannette) of Val Caron, and Nicole (husband Wayne Wasberg) of Sudbury. Died at Manitowaning on Sunday, the 30th inst. May Ruttany (not clear, should read Buttrey?), beloved wife of T.J. Young. Those who survive her are her husband and two children Mae and Carl. Much sympathy is expressed for the bereaved family.

The Late Mrs. J. T. Young
Mr. J. T. Young, one of the most respected residents of Manitowaning, Ont., died of cancer on Monday, Dec. 31st, 1923, after a weary illness which she bore with untiring patience for several months, aged 44 years.
The funeral was held at her home on Wednesday afternoon, January 2nd, at one o�clock and was largely attended. The Rev. H. E. Pelletier officiated. She was laid to rest in Hilly Grove cemetery. Mr. Howard Smith was undertaker and director.
She commanded respect of all who knew her, was a woman of calm and reserved manners, strong will and possess a noble character. The many beautiful flowers contributed showed the esteem and respect in which she was held.
She eaves to mourn her loss a husband and two sons-Carl of Chicago, and Clarence at home, also two sisters, Mrs. Barney Finch of Emo, and Mrs. Jon Ingram of Manitoulin island, besides many friends who deeply sympathize with the bereaved family.
The bearers were-Capt. McCoy, R. J. Lewis, Chas. Hinds, S. J. Bradley, R. Burns, and G.W. Wallace.

MURIEL EVELYN (MCINTYRE) YOUNG
August 8, 1914-September 14, 2003
Evelyn Young, a resident of Little Current, died at the Manitoulin Centennial Manor on Sunday, September 14, 2003 at the age of 89 years. She was born in Tehkummah, daughter of the late Ronald and Christina (Shea) McIntyre. Evelyn was a member of The Church of Christ and the Senior Citizen group of Providence Bay. Evelyn worked for Sanders Chocolate Company for many years before retiring. She returned to Manitoulin and enjoyed many hobbies and interests which included playing cards, puzzles, keeping scrap books, watching birds and gambling. She was a hard worker and will be fondly remembered for her pride, love and enjoyment of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Beloved wife of the late Roy Young who predeceased her in 1968. Loved and loving mother of H. Joanne Tilston of California. Dear grandmother of Greg and wife Isabelle Tilston. Proud great grandmother of Taylor and Trevor. Special aunt to Glen and Beth McDougall and families of Providence Bay. Loving sister of Stella McFarlane, Merdick McIntyre, Helen Wagner, Mabel Tonn, Geraldine Harvey, Gerald McIntyre, Theresa Lloyd, Grace McDougall and Leland McIntyre, all prdeceased (sic).
There will be no visitation at Evelyn's request. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 2;00 p.m., from the Church of Christ, Providence Bay with Wes Leeson officiating. Interment in Providence Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Centennial Manor of the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary.

A Sad Bereavement
The many friends and acquaintenances (sic) in this community and other parts regret to learn of the passing away of Mrs. Nora Young, Gore Bay after a long and very painful illness.
About four months ago Mrs. Young contracted a cold which afterwards developed into inflammatory rheumatism causing her much suffering. At first her case was not regarded as very serious, she and her many friends were hopeful that a period of rest would lead to ultimate recover, but her failure to respond to treatment gave cause for grave anxiety. Amid it all she battled bravely for life but her frail body was not equal to the strain and she passed away on Wednesday, December 27th, despite all that oculd be done for her.
A sad feature of the bereavement is that three small children are left without a mother�s care, just when they needed her most.
The funeral service was conducted on Friday afternoon at her father�s home (Mr. Stewart Clarke) by the Rev. Alex. R. Gibson whose message was most comforting and helpful.
By special request Mrs. Herbert Riching, Mrs. J.W. Hagan and Mrs. George McRae sang, "The Lord is My Shepherd."
The body was borne to Gordon cemetery where it was laid to rest.
The pall bearers were R.J. Winter, Mr. Harold Purvis, Mr. M. Lougheed, Mr. George Purvis, Mr. George McRae, Mr. Adam Casson and Chas. Woodruff.
Those who are left to mourn are:-Mr. William Young, her husband, and three small children Stewart, William and Norine, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Clarke, besides three brothers and two sisters, Messrs. Stewart, Thomas and William and Miss Jessie of Wheeling, Va., and Mrs. VanEvery, Meldrum Bay, Ont.

NORWOOD YOUNG
On the morning of July 25th, 1943, Norwood Young passed peacefully away at his home at Big Lake. He had been in poor health for several months, and six months prior to his death he was stricken with severe pain due to stomach ulcers. Everything possible was done to relieve his suffering, but all medical aid could not effect a cure and his condition gradually became worse.
The deceased was born in the Slash, on the Manitoulin on January 10th, 1880 and came to this vicinity with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Myles Young, at the age of 14 years.
On May 26th, 1906, he married Miss Myrtle Middaugh, who predeceased him nine years ago. Their entire life was spent on their farm at Big Lake, where with hard work and good management they made for themselves and family a comfortable Home. He was a fond parent and a kind neighbour, who always was ready to lend a hand in times of need.
Surviving are two sons and two daughters: Leonard, Myles and Elva (Mrs. Earl Cannard) all of Big Lake, and Bertha (Mrs. Oliver Coultis of the Slash. Also two sisters; Jean (Mrs. Norris) of Toronto, Ethel (Mrs. Alex Wilson) of Bronte, and two brothers, Thomas of Manitowaning and Digby of Big Lake.
The service was conducted at his late home on Monday, July 26, by Rev. Charles Noble of Church of England, assisted by Rev. J. Renshaw of the United Church. On hymn, a favourite of the departed; God moves in a Mysterious way was sung. The pallbearers were: Wm. And Fred. Moody, Wilfred Brown, David Thomson, Hall Bassinghwaite and Lawrence Tann.
Interment was mad in Mindemoya Cemetery.

PIONEER DIES AT MANITOWANING -
Last Wednesday, August 19th, Thomas Young, an esteemed resident of Manitowaning, passed on. Popularly called Mate Young, his sudden death came as a shock to the community, though his health had not been the best during the last few years. The funeral took place on Friday, August 21st, in Manitowaning.

ZELDA MARION YOUNG
September 5, 1929 - April 26, 2009
In loving memory of Zelda Young, a resident of Mindemoya, died at her residence on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the age of 79 years. She was born in Carnarvon Township, daughter of the late Stuart and Nelda Beatrice (Cress) Pearson. Zelda had worked at Kresge's in Sault Ste. Marie and Sears in Sudbury for well over 30 years, retiring when she was 65. When she was able, she enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful flowers, quilted and needlepoint and loved to drive. She particularly liked to go to socials, teas and church suppers. Zelda is survived by her loving daughter Marion Newton and her husband Ken of Mindemoya. Dear sister of Helen Pearson of Cambridge, Calvin Pearson (Joan), (predeceased by wife Betty Ann), Ruth Hedlund, husband Al of Sault Ste. Marie and sister-in-law Jean Pearson of Mindemoya. Predeceased by brother Norris. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Friends may called at the Culgin Funeral Home on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 10 - 11 am. The funeral service was conducted in the Wm. G. Turner Chapel at 11 am with Rev. Mary Jo Eckert Tracy officiating. Interment in Providence Bay Cemetery. If so desired, donations to the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary would be appreciated. Culgin Funeral Home, 282-2270.
