He will always be remembered for his commitment to his family, friends and community and we will long reminisce about his sense of humor, intellect and conversational skills. Left to mourn this heavy loss are his daughter Anita, son Herb, daughter-in-law Margaret, sisters Nola, Dorothy and families. NANCY CAROLYN GALLAGHER
62 YEARS
Life is a journey, not a destination.
That was Nancys favourite saying.

Nancy died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 after a very short but very determined battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends while resting peacefully at home. Nancy was a loving, caring, funny, supportive wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 39 years Jack. When she was diagnosed with cancer the first thing she said was I wont be able to celebrate our 40th anniversary. It would have been June 2, 2013. While raising her three children Scott, Stephanie and Carrie Ann (husband Glen) she was very proud of the fact that she was able to be a stay-at-home Mom. She will be greatly missed by her brother Dr. Ronald Scott (wife Pauline) and her sister Catherine Scott (husband Glenn) and her precious grandchildren Ashtyn Patrick Gallagher, Madison Paige Marshall and Iona Grace Franklin. A very caring and well-respected social worker with the Childrens Aid Society and later the City of Sudbury. Nancy unfortunately had to leave her beloved career early, due to illness. The family would like to thank Dr. Ray Sawkiw, her family doctor for always being there for her. Dr. Kim Tilbe and Dr. Fredrick Wright for helping her deal with her Crohns disease and finally all the professionals at the North East Cancer Centre, CCAC and Bayshore for allowing us to keep Nancy at home with us during her journey. A special big thank you to Gabby her nurse who was always there for both Nancy and her Family. At Nancys request there will be no service or visitation. She will be cremated and true to her request we will sprinkle her ashes at each of her special places, Manitoulin Island, McFarlane Lake and Lake Muskoka. She will be interred at the Burpee Mills cemetery on Manitoulin Island, where she will join Uncle Brian and assist him in watching over our family and the beach. A celebration of Nancys life will be held at a future date. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.

Saigeon, Campbell Township.
The following is a summary of the Memorial sermon preached in the Methodist Church Sunday evening:
1 Cor. 15, 12, Thanks be unto God who giveth unto us the victory through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Sin hurts and stings. Witness the agony and pain on the drawn face of a victim fleeing from justice. Remember our own experiences after a wrong has been done.
Sin defeats. If sin had not touched the soul and reached through to the body, the soul might have redeemed even the flesh from death. But Sin paralysed and the soul lost its power. Sin defeats morally.
Sin hurts and stings more in death than life. Just then we are peculiarly sensitive to the past, the future-and Christ. The sting of death is Sin.
Sin has power. We need only to think to be convinced of this. The strength of sin- is the Law.
Death is the working, faithful companion of Sin and Law, when Law condemns.
This presents a very dark outlook to immortal spirits, and while thinking of it the groan of despair escapes-until we come to the triumphant not of Paul when concluding his chapter, Thanks be unto God-Lord. Christ then is the secret of victory over Sin, Law and Death.
But not until Christ is the secret and working power in a mans life.-This never so impressed upon us as in the hour of death. Said a dying girl while lying on a coot and looking into the faces of a Christian Mother and an infidel father, Now father whose faith shall I die in, yours or Mothers? The father replied, In your Mothers faith, my child, in your Mothers faith.
How shall we gain Christ Jesus, the secret of victory over Sin and Death? A dirty rasged (sic) Greek girl seeing from time to time a beautiful statue- in the market place was transformed in outward appearance. Perhaps this may suggest an answer to the question. Turn your eyes to the Master and learn of him.
The secret of Mrs. Gameys life and which made it a Christian life, was Christ. The secret of her victory in the hour of death was Christ. She spent a number of years on the Island and amid difficulties which only a new country can present. As far as she was permitted and in her own quiet way she lent her sympathy to Christian work. In brief, without giving any adequate picture of her life, we cannot but say that her life and precept testified to the keeping power of the Master. In death her prayer was, to be taken home.

An obituary notice in Saturday's Globe and Mail was brought to my attention, revealing the death of Blanche Pownall Garrett of Goderich, on Thursday, October 6 at Kitchener. She was in her 69th year and is survived by her daughter Rebecca Garrett of Toronto and a son Stephen Garrett of Frederic, Maryland, U.S.A.
Rev. Ben Garrett and his wife Blanche ministered here at the Untied Church during 1949 and 1950 and endeared themselves to the local people in the parishes of Green Bay, Sheguiandah, Rockville and Little Current.
Blanche has devoted her latter years to writing and had published two delightful books- "A Taste of the Wild" and "Canadian Country Preserves and Wines", as well as contributing editor of a cooking column in "Outdoor Canada", a well known sports magazine. Her two books mentioned above are really great, all tested recipes and I rely constantly on several of her jelly and conserve recipes.
Blanche P. Garrett will be missed by her family, her host of friends and her literary cohorts.

Death of Robert Gault
It is with deep regret that we have to report the death of Mr. Robert Gault of Manitowaning, which occurred on Friday morning. Mr. Gault is well and favorably known on Manitoulin where he has lived for many years and transacted business in all parts of the island, in the timber industry.
Mrs. Gault, who survives her husband, has the deep sympathy of a large circle of acquaintances in the district, as she has suffered for some years, through ill health, and the loss she thus sustains in the passing of Mr. Gault, will deprive her of the kindly care and attention that a loving husband ever afforded.
