SHERMAN EADE
A resident of Little Current all his life, passed away, after a very short illness May 17 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was in his 77th year.
On March 22, 1927 he married Jean Dryburgh, and they had one son. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Jean and son Austin, also one grandson Bobbie, one brother Milton. Also several nieces and nephews, one being Mrs. Ruth Volpini of Espanola.
Funeral service was held from Eagleson Funeral Home May 19. Interment Mountain View Cemetery, Little Current.

Mr. Sherman Eade, another well known citizen who has lived here all his life, passed away, after a short illness early Thursday morning May 17 at St. Joseph�s Hospital.
Sherman was well known on front street and over the Island as he served the public for the past several years from his downtown taxi business.
Funeral service was Saturday afternoon from the Eagleson Funeral Home with interment in Mountain View Cemetery. Rev. Margaret Bain officiated.
Relatives here, friends and neighbours wish to extend sincere sympathy to his bereaved wife Jan and family.
Relatives who attended from out of town were an only son Austin Eade of Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. George McKee and daughter Kerri of Falconbridge; Mrs. W.J. Cote of Sudbury; Mr. and Mrs. F. CECIL EADE PASSES
Friends and relatives were saddened to learn of the death of Cecil Eade, age 45, of 310 N. Court Street, Thunder Bay, P. Ont., on December 28, 1972, in a plane crash at Powell Lake, near Thunder Bay. Cecil was born and raised in Little Current, Manitoulin Island, and after his marriage to Lee Zaga, he made his home at Port Arthur, Ont., now Thunder Bay.
Cecil was very active in sports, particularly hockey, and often traveled hundreds of miles to play the game. He toured Europe in 1962 with the Port Arthur Bearcats.
He had worked for Dorans Brewery, as a stationary engineer for 17 years, and the past few years was involved in various businesses.
He is survived by his wife, Lee, four sons, Ricky, Barry, Jamie and Lindsay, one daughter, Shelley, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Elsie (Eade) Roadhouse, and one brother Kenneth, both of Little Current; and other relatives. He was predeceased by his father, Cecil (Jim) Eade in December of 1956.
Funeral services for the late Cecil Eade were largely attended, and held on January 3, 1973, at 3 pm from the Everest Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend R.H. Peden D.D. officiating.
Active pallbearers was Buddy Whitney, Alf Tennant, Jim Wylie, Steve Hrymanak, George Vondraseh, and George Borden. Honorary pallbearers were David McBlain, Bill Newbold, Gene Madeo, Bill Desimone, Glen Murray, and Mickey O�Neill.
Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
Attending from out of town were Mrs. Elsie Roadhouse, Ronald Allen, Orville (Dubs) Lockyer, of Little Current; Mrs. Ruth Volpini, of Espanola, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Eade, of Willowdale; and Mr. and Mrs. William Hurd, of Nipigon.

Three men killed in airplane crash
THUNDER BAY, Ont, (CP) � Three men were killed Thursday when their single-engine airplane crashed on Powell Lake about 75 miles west of Thunder Bay.
Dead are the pilot, Anthony Joseph Massaro, 44, of Thunder Bay, Cecil Arthur Eade, 45, of Thunder Bay and Albert Rowe, 49, of Little Current, Ont.
The three men were on an ice-fishing expedition when the incident occurred. The transport department will conduct an investigation

MRS. A. EADE PASSES AWAY
Little Current Expositor: Mrs. Abraham Eade died on February 17th at the home of her son, Robert Eade.
Mrs. Eade, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Bagley, spent part at least of her younger days at Aurora, Ont. she and her husband moved to a farm near Laskey where they engaged in farming till the spring of 1876 when they moved to Manitoulin and settled on the farm on which Mrs. Eade has ever since lived.
Being an energetic household manager, she did her share in changing the old fashioned pioneer homestead into a more comfortable, modern condition. Her husband died some years ago, as also her eldest son, William. Charles, the second son, moved West, Arthur still lives in town and Robert on the old homestead.

George Herbert Eade
George Herbert Eade died at the St. Joseph�s Hospital in Little Current, on February 12, 1975 after a short illness. Born in Little Current, April 16, 1899, he was the eldest son of the late George Eade and Eliza Stringer.
He received his education in Howland and Little Current.
On May 26, 1916 he joined the 227th Canadian Army and spent three years serving overseas. Upon his return, he worked for Northern Development, on Highway 68 north. This was the first construction of the first highway from Little Current to Espanola. Later, he was caretaker of tourist lodges in McGregor Bay. He farmed for 14 years in Howland Township before joining the Dept. of Highways in 1955. He retired from the Dept. of Highways in April 1967.
He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge 455 and a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion 177, who each held a memorial service.

FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN TORONTO
John James Eade passed away on Thursday, June 30th, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. James Wilson, in his 73rd year.
Interment took place in Aurora Cemetery on Thursday, July 2. The late John Eade went to Little Current with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Eade, in the early eighties and lived in a shanty at the Abraham Eade farm. He left later for Aurora and worked on farms in that vicinity until he commenced farming for himself at Snowfall. After a few years he bought a farm near Gormley, which he tilled until the death of his wife four weeks before his own death. Before her marriage she was Janifer Wilson.
They leave to mourn their loss, Mrs. Myrtle L. Stanley, Stephen, Lulu and Ethel.
The funeral was attended by a large following of friends and relatives including his cousin Arthur Eade, Port Dalhousie. Many floral contributions were sent from friends in remembrance.

ROBERT JOHN EADE
Mr. Robert John Eade of Little Current departed this life on September 12th in the Little Current, St. Joseph�s Hospital.
Mr. Eade was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Eade, born in Little Current, 81 years ago. He resided in Little Current all of his lifetime. He attended the Howland Township school, and was employed with the Department of Highways as a watchman until 1959.
Mr. Eade married Edith Eliza Rowe on January 3rd, 1906 in Little Current.
He is survived by six daughters Alice, (Mrs. Alan Dryburgh) Jessie (Mrs. William Ferguson) Ruth, all of Little Current and Annie (Mrs. Art Bond) of Willisville, Ethel (Mrs. Joe Hall) of Sault Ste. Marie, Audrey (Mrs. Clifford Hannah) of Sudbury, seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife and three brothers, William, Charles and Arthur.
The funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, September 15, 1965 in the United Church, Little Current, by Rev. Hugh Gemmell.
Interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery.
A special service was held by members of the Orange Lodge.
Pall-bearers were; Orval Eadie, Orion Taylor, Clarence Cooper, Ralph Cunningham, Colin Skippen, and Lyman Pearson.
Honorary pallbearers were; Lawrence Peck, Sylvester Wilkin, George Rowe, Lloyd Rowe, Joe Cond and Wes Taylor.
Mr. Clifford Wilkin drove the flower car.

IVAN JOHN EADIE
In loving memory of Ivan John Eadie who passed away on May 24, 2004 in his home in the Warsaw area. On May 21, 1925, Ivan John Eadie was born in Little Current, Manitoulin Island, son of the late Mary Sim and John Garnet Eadie. Ivan grew up and was educated on Manitoulin Island before going to work on the Great Lakes with Patterson Steamship Lines. After a few years on the boats he enlisted with the Mercant Marine and later joined the army, serving overseas during WWII. On December 6, 1947, he married Barbara Phyllis Payne on Manitoulin Island. They moved to the Warsaw area where Ivan went to work for General Motors in Oshawa, retiring as a press operator in 1982. After retirement, he and Barbara spent a great deal of time doing charity work, especially with the children, and over the years fostered several children. Barbara passed away on April 2, 1993.
When Ivan was younger he played a little hockey and enjoyed hunting and fishing. While living in Little Current, he had been a member of the Manitoulin Legion Branch # 177. For 11 1/2 years he was the President of the Warsaw Legion Branch # 511 where he was a Charter and Life member. Ivan received much love and enjoyment from his own family and all the children he had helped over the years.
Ivan is survived by his children Judith Hendren (Howard), Arlene Webster (Don), Jay Eadie, Debbie Horn (Bob) and Jackie Moore (George); siblings Ruby Chapman, Margaret Lonsberry, Kathy Purvis, Joyce Brown, Ted, Orville, Jerry and Melvyn Eadie; 13 gandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and many foster children. Predeceased by his parents Mary and John Eadie; wife Barbara and brother Ross Eadie. The memorial service was held at the Warsaw Legion on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 1 pm with Reverend Peter Bishop officiating. Interment held at St. Mark's Cemetery followed by reception at the Warsaw Legion.

Honora youth injured again
HOWLAND YOUTH DIES IN TRAFFIC MISHAP
LITTLE CURRENT - Two separate traffic mishaps in the Little Current area claimed one life and left four other people hospitalized over the weekend.
Dead is John Robert Eadie, 23, of Howland Township, who was a passenger in a car driven by his brother William Eadie. Spokesman for the Little Current OPP detachment told the Expositor the vehicle was heading east on Highway 540 when an attempt to pass another vehicle caused the driver to lose control of his car. The accident occurred June 5, six miles from Little Current.
Injured in the accident was James Robert Taylor, 18, of Honora who was also involved in another traffic accident last month when a pick-up truck he was driving went off the road and struck a hydro pole four miles west of Spring Bay. He is reported to have reinjured a broken vertebra resulting from the earlier mishap.
Also injured in the Eadie vehicle were James Lenord Moore, 17, of Manitowaning and Kim Anne Stevens, 17, of Honora. Both suffered cuts and bruises.
In another accident, also occurring Saturday, June 5, one mile east of Little Current on Highway 540, three passengers riding in the rear of a half ton truck were injured when driver Randy J. Poulin, 21, of Toronto, lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve.
Seriously injured was Bernice Esquimaux, 18, of Sucker Creek. In fair condition are James Esquimaux, 23, also of Sucker Creek and James Ellison, 35, of Whitefish Falls.
In both accidents, the driver was wearing a seat belt and escaped injury.

Ron's career took him sailing on the Great Lakes, and he was also employed at Inco and Ontario Hydro. Ron is survived by his brother Leland (Julie) of Brantford, Ontario, brother-in-law Norman Snyder of Southampton, Ontario, Russell (Ruth) of West Bay, Ontario, sister-in-law Katherine Eadie of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, brother Dalton (Mary) of Ayr, Ontario and sister Gloria Houle (Gordon) of Kitchener, Ontario. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his sister Rita Snyder and his brothers Harvey Eadie and Floyd Eadie. Death in Burpee
The community of Burpee has been saddened by the death of one of its earliest settlers in the person of Mrs. John Eaton. Deceased had been in poor health for some time past but had always persisted in attending to her household duties. Finally her physical condition became alarming and she was persuaded to go to Gore Bay and place herself under medical treatment. But her wornout frame made no response to physician�s skill or nurse�s care and in less than a week, on July 13th, she passed quietly away, her last words expressing her simple trust in her Saviour�s love. The funeral took place on Monday, July 16th, to the Gordon cemetery. On Sunday, July 22nd, a memorial service was conducted by Rev. R. Wiseman in the Burpee Church. The large audience gave evidence of deep respect for the departed friend and the mourning relatives. She leaves in Burpee an only son, Henry Hall, and a brother John Martin, to mourn her loss.

Sister of Don Bethel (Jean) of St. Catharines. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Christine (Jamie), Michael (Andrea), Karen, Jocelyn, Kaeli, and her five great-grandchildren. ROBERT FINDLAY EDINGTON, M.B, Ch.B, MD, FRCS (C)
Dr. Bob Edington of Whitefish Falls, Ontario, passed away at the Espanola General Hospital on December 16, 2009 in his 83rd year. Predeceased by his sister, Margaret of Scotland. He is survived by his children, Bruce (Maggie), Brenda, Lee (Mike) and Jason (Stacey), and grandchildren, Ian, Emily, Chester, Luke, Eric, Taylor, Merryl, Walter and Peter as well as by dear friend, companion and medical school classmate, Dr. Helen Wright of Ottawa, Ontario. Bob was born in Glasgow, Scotland and graduated from Trinity College Glenalmond and then University of Glasgow in 1950 where he excelled at academics and all sports. After internship he accepted a scholarship to McGill University and was involved in some of the early research on Rh factor in pregnancy. After working as an Inco doctor in Sudbury during the 1950s, he and his family moved to Akron, Ohio to complete training in Obstetrics and Gynecology. On his return to Canada he worked in Cornwall initially and then returned to Sudbury to a specialty practice. Bob was innovative in his medicine and was instrumental in developing a strong Obstetrics and Gynecology program in Sudbury. He was one of the first to introduce laparoscopy to Sudbury, and after active practice, continued outreach clinics in Espanola, Little Current and Elliot Lake that he started in the 1960s. Bob lived an active and adventurous life. He was an avid sailor, skier, scuba diver and tennis player. He was a life-long learner and completed his BA in anthropology in 1986. He retired to Whitefish Falls where he actively contributed to the community and the Espanola Public Library. A memorial service was held Monday, December 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bourcier Funeral Home, 222 Spruce Avenue, Espanola. Miss Margaret A. Edmonds
Miss Margaret A. Edmonds, popularly known as �Auntie� passed to her reward on the morning of March 15th, 1924.
She was born in the town of Mitchell in the Autumn of 1857. About the year 1860 her father, the late Wm. Edmonds, removed to a farm near Norwich, Ont., where she remained until her father�s death, when she and her mother removed into the town of Norwich. There she remained until her mother�s death, twenty-six years ago. Since that time she has resided with her brother, Mr. John Edmonds, of Silver Water, Ont. At about the age of twelve years, Miss Edmonds was attacked with rheumatism, the trouble first affecting her fingers. Medical treatment availed nothing to check the progress of the affliction, which gradually disorted (sic) her limbs, until she was completely deprived of the use of them. After coming to Manitoulin twenty-six years ago, she could walk a little with much effort for two years. For ten years she was helped from her bed to a chair since which time she has been almost constantly confined to her bed. Since coming to the Island she had only at times suffered extreme pain but scarcely any person can form any dies (sic) of the extreme agony of suffering which she endured previous to that, for hers was a case almost without a parallel. When no longer able to walk, her desire was to attend church. Lifted into the light wagon or sleigh, she was taken to church, regularly, and placed in her wheeled chair in the aisle near to the pulpit. She must, surely, have been a source of inspiration to the various ministers who officiated; and what a pattern of fidelity she was to the many to whom God has granted the full use of their limbs. She was also Treasurer of the Ladies Aid until the loss of her eyesight prevented her from holding the position any longer. Miss Edmonds remained until death a member of the Anglican Church, although since coming to Manitoulin she attended the Presbyterian church of which body her brother has long been an elder.
She had been out of bed for a short time, and said, �Put me back to bed.� This was done and in a few moments she had passed away peacefully to her rest.
A large congregation assembled at St. Andrew�s Presbyterian Church to pay their last tribute of respect to her memory, the service being conducted by Rev. Wm. Munro who spoke from the words �Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.�
Hers was a long and severe affliction, during which she was tenderly cared for and which was intensified toward the last by total blindness all of which was borne with wonderful patience and Christian resignation.
Out of a family of eight, three brothers and one sister survive. These are Wm. B. Edmonds of Norwhich, Ont. David F. of Burford, Ont., John of Silver Water Ont, and Mrs. J.E. Haight of Killarney, Man.
Messrs. Wm. and George Priddle of Silver Water are nephews, being sons of a deceased sister, Mrs. Wm. Priddle, Sr.
The pallbearers were Messrs. D. McGibbon, J. Williams, Jr., Chas. Hutton, Chas. Kemp, J. Kemp and L. Johnson.
The remains were laid to rest in the Silver Lake cemetery, overlooking the waters of that name.

EDNIE (Hammond), Jessie Kathleen � Of Gore Bay, passed away at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Little Current on Wednesday, March 17, 1993 in her 60th year. She was born in Gordon Township, daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Allene (McDougall) Hammond and had lived in the area all her life. She had been a clerk at the post office for a number of years, retiring in the mid-1970�s. Kay enjoyed quilting and stamp collecting. Beloved wife of Harold Ednie and loving mother of Hal and daughter-in-law Diane Ednie of Sudbury and dearly loved grandmother of Bradley and Tracy. Dear sister of Alex and sister-in-law Beatrice Hammond of Brantford. Friends were received at the Turner Funeral Home on Friday after 7 pm. The funeral service was conducted at Lyons Memorial United Church on Saturday at 11 am with Mr. Erwin Thompson and Reverend Iain MacDonald officiating. Interment in Gordon Cemetery. In remembrance, donations may be made to the Diabetic Society.

ROBERT ANDREW EDNIE
Shocking Tragedy Occurs in Billings Township One of the most shocking tragedies of the Township of Billings occurred on Wednesday afternoon, August 15th when the accidental discharge of a .22 rifle took the life of Robert Andrew Ednie, one of the townships most highly respected citizens.
The deceased who was in his 43rd year and unmarried, resided with his mother and brother Arthur, on a farm near Mindemoya Lake, where he was actively engaged in farming up until a short time ago, when following an operation he was obliged to take things easy. On the day of the accident both he and his brother had been having a little target practice after dinner. About two o'clock Arthur left to cut grain about a half a mile from home and on leaving requested his brother to bring him up some oil and binder twine later in the afternoon.
As he failed to show up Arthur returned home for the required materials and found his brother lying beside the car, dead, with the muzzle of the rifle underneath his right hand and a bullet wound in his right temple. As the deceased had found the time rather heavy on his hands while convalescing he was in the habit of carrying the rifle wherever he went around the farm, shooting sparrows and crows for amusement. From the position in which he was found and his preparedness to carry out his brothers wishes, the oil and twine being already to be placed in the car, it is presumed that while loading the rifle it accidentally discharged causing instant death as the bullet struck a most vital spot.
The doctor and coroner were immediately summoned, and Dr. J.A. Baker and W.F. McRae, acting as coroners, in the absence of Magistrate Major, viewed the remains and returned a verdict of accidental death.
The late Mr. Ednie was born at Calument, Mich., on June 17th, 1892, and came to the Island with his mother and brothers and sisters in 1902, settling at Long Bay, later moving to their present farm on Lake Mindemoya.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his mother, Mrs. A. Kerr and the following brothers and sister, Miss Jennie Kerr of Chicago, Arthur at home and Alex. of Kagawong. The funeral took place from his late residence, on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. and was very largely attended by friends and neighbours from the surrounding community, who gathered to pay their last respects to one they held in high esteem. The funeral service was conducteb by the Rev. F. Wagg and Mr. Wilson Sterling. The pallbearers were Messrs. Jas. Robertson, Earl McAnsh, R. Cranston, Andrew Robertson, Fred Cranston and Norman Bowser. Interment was made in Mindemoya Cemetery.

Peacefully at London�s Victoria Hospital at the age of 79 years. The daughter of Fred and Chris Jones, Peggy was born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario and graduated in Nursing from St. Joseph�s Hospital, Hamilton in 1950. Her nursing career took her to Sudbury, Ontario where she met Peter Edward, her husband of 56 years. After many years in the north, Peggy and Peter resided in the Toronto area before retiring to Niagara-on-the Lake, always returning to Manitoulin Island for the summers. Peggy was the consummate caregiver and homemaker, believing family came first. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and a beloved Nana. She lived her life with grace and humility. Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her husband Peter, her sister, Audrey Young (John), and her children Paul (Lori), Tim (Elaine), Jane (Gene) and Karen (Ken) and her grandchildren Shelby, Jordan, Lauren, Nicholas, Chris and Harrison, Anthony and Caitlyn, brothers-in-law John Edward (June), Tom Edward (Isobel), sisters-in-law Charlotte Edington, Jill Gordon and Patricia Bateman (Bob) and her many nieces, nephews and friends. The family gratefully thanks the physicians and nursing staff of the Victoria Hospital for the compassionate care provided to Peggy. EGAN, James �Jim� Leonard - In loving memory of James �Jim� Leonard Egan, 81 years, who passed away Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 at the SRH - Laurentian Site. Jim was born April 21st, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan where his father worked for the Ford Motor Company. In 1933 the family moved to Jim's grandfather's farm near Eganville, in the Ottawa Valley, a property Jim still maintained and took great pride in. At age 16 moving north to the Nickel mines, Jim worked mainly at Frood Stobie, where he worked his way up to Divisional Foreman. In 1959 he was transferred to Thompson, Manitoba when INCO was developing this property. In 1963 Jim returned to Sudbury eventually opening Egan Real Estate and General Insurance which has been a familiar landmark for over 40 years on Elm Street. To quote Jim �right next to the jail.� He was a 45 year member of the Sudbury Real Estate Board, Past President of the Sudbury Real Estate Board, Past Director of the Victorian Order of Nurses, a life member of the Caruso Club, and a supporter of the Sudbury Food Bank. Jim and Colleen have traveled to Ireland, Florida, Alaska and the Maritimes. He enjoyed traveling to the �farm� in Eganville and to the family camp in Little Current for bass fishing. A devout Roman Catholic with a particular devotion to Ste. Therese the Little Flower he had been a member of St. Clement's parish council, an usher having served the parish for over 50 years and more recently Our Lady of Hope Parish. Beloved husband of Colleen (Donnelly) Egan. Loving father of Catherine (Charles), James Michael, and Maureen (Michael). Cherished grandfather of Sarah, Matthew, Patrick, Joseph, Tory and Kiernan. Dear son of Michael and Mary (Gannon) Egan predeceased. Dear brother of Teresa Kelly (Patrick predeceased), Leo (Aline). Dear brother-in-law to Francis Donnelly (Nicla). MISS MAUDE EGAN
Miss Maude Eagan passed away suddenly at her residence in Little Current on March 8, 1974. Born on March 10, 1901 in Killarney, Ontario, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Egan, she resided on a farm in Sheguiandah until 1939. She then found employment in Gore Bay and from there moved to Toronto, where she resided until 1969. She took up residence in Little Current at the time of her retirement.
Predeceased by five brothers and four sisters, she leaves to mourn her loss one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Ferguson.
The work of Christ�s Church was ever her concern and to it, she gave all the time and effort she could spare. All of her days, she walked faithfully in the ways of the Lord. The body rested at the Eagleson Funeral Home. A Rosary Service was held at the home at 8 pm, March 10th. The funeral was conducted by Father O�Connor in St. Bernard�s Roman Catholic Church on March 11. Selections were sung by Joyce Martel and Cecil Valiquette. Miss Ursula Roszel played the organ. Interment was in St. Vincent de Paul R. C. Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Calvin Leeson, John Dunlop, Burt Dunlop, Godfrey Cranston, Edward Ferguson and Robert Ferguson. Bill Strain was the usher.
Friends and relatives from Sault Ste. Marie, Elliot Lake, Sudbury, Lively and Toronto attended the funeral.

Milan Egrmajer passed away on December 2, 2010 at the age of 58 years. He was born in West Berlin, son of the late Edith and Miloslav Egrmajer. Milan was an electrical engineer and had served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 7 years, retiring as a Naval Lieutenant. He then worked on the DEW Line in the North, followed by working as a consultant in Ottawa, mainly for the Coast Guard and the Department of National Defence. Milan had a variety of interests which included camping, canoeing, fishing, tinkering, cooking and baking, socializing, and in particular, sailing. He had left on July 8, 2008 from St. Catharines on his intended sailing trip. Milan is survived by Willa Wilson of Kagawong, daughter Myda of Kagawong and son Ivan of Ottawa, his sister Brita (husband Werner) Van Riesen of St. Catharines and his mother-in-law Margaret Wilson. Milan's life was celebrated at the Culgin Funeral Home, Gore Bay, on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 11:00 am with Rev. Mark Wilson officiating. DR. PAUL EISENBARTH (A.K.A. PAULOOSIE)
Dr. Paul John Eisenbarth of RR #3 Hanover, died at home Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in his 67th year. Paul was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, son of the late John and Lillian (Johnson) Eisenbarth. After attending Cornell and Johns Hopkins Universities in the USA, he moved to Canada as a conscientious objector in 1970. He loved everything Canadian and was a true Canadian "citizen." Paul was a lifelong and tireless advocate in peace and anti-nuclear movements through his work with "Physicians for Global Survival" and "International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW)". Through this work with other like-minded physicians he was awarded the "Nobel Prize for Peace (1985)". He was also committed to sustainable ecological farming (Ecological Farmers of Ontario) and a keeper of rare breeds of livestock (Rare Breeds Canada). Paul believed deeply in a just and secure food system and sustainable agriculture (National Farmers Union). In his rare free moments he loved hunting, fishing, and canoeing. After working on Manitoulin Island (1970-1979) he moved to Hamilton and worked in emergency medicine, as a trauma team leader, and in critical care transport (1980-1999). During these years he sang with the "Opera Hamilton Chorus", the male "Orpheus Choir", and the "Bach-Elgar Choir". In 1999 he settled in Hanover and was deeply committed to the entire health care community and community in general. Paul was a lifelong supporter of First Nations, Indigenous, and Inuit Peoples Rights. In particular he was lovingly committed to Six Nations and other First Nations Peoples in the Hamilton-Wentworth region as well as the Inuit of Nunavut. Since 2004 Pauloosie spent much time working with and for the Inuit in Iqaluit and other communities in Baffin Region, as well as in Ikaluktutiak (Cambridge Bay). Peace also takes courage. Paul will forever be so deeply missed by his wife, co-advocate, best friend, and true soul mate Marney (Cuff) Eisenbarth. He will also be greatly missed by his son and "farming partner", Tim MacDonald (Rebecca Taylor) of Bentinck. Survived, loved and missed by his son Marc and daughter Laura (both of Hamilton), brother Peter and sister-in-law Nancy as well as niece and nephew Kate and Daryl Eisenbarth, all of New Jersey. Predeceased by father-in-law Frank Cuff (Hamilton). Also loved and missed by mother-in-law Shirley Cuff, sisters-in-law: Deb Gavin (Thunder Bay), Marilyn Cuff (Walkerton), Trish Bella (Prince George, BC), Chris Cuff (Vancouver, BC), and Aleisha Cuff (Toronto). Memorial visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. ELFORD, Isabella (Bella) � the former Bella Willis, passed away at the Manitoulin Lodge on Thursday, May 11th, 1989 in her 94th year. She was born in the Little Current area, daughter of the late William Willis and the former Francis Griffith and had been employed at Turner�s of Little Current retiring at the age of 70. Bella was a member of the Missionary Church in Mindemoya, the Lapidary Club at Ice Lake and as a loving mother will be sadly missed. Her husband William Arthur Elford predeceased in 1983. Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 18th, 1970, for Frederick A. Elliott, well known Little Current Businessman, who died suddenly on June 15th at Mindemoya Red Cross Hospital, as a result of a heart attack.
Services were conducted from the Holy Trinity Anglican Church at 3 p.m. Interment was at the Holy Trinity Anglican cemetery. He lived for many years at Kagawong and then moved to Little Current, where he and his wife, and family have lived for the past 11 years.
He is survived by his wife, the former Daisy Bell and two sons, Garry, 18, and Ricky, 12; and two daughters, Shelly 8, and Laurie 6, also by his mother, Mrs. Edna Elliott, wife of the late Mr. Arthur Elliott and 5 sisters and one brother: Mrs. John Farquhar, (Freda) of Little Current; Mrs. Rod Hyatt (Judy); Mrs. Charles Pinaud (Connie), all of Little Current; Mrs. Glen Pringle (Marlene) of Manitowaning; Mrs. Don McIntyre (Marie) of Toronto; and Mr. Gerald Elliott of Little Current.

A celebration of Robert's life was held with his family, friends and colleagues at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home and Chapel in Toronto on Thursday, February 28, 2002. A memorial service was held in Stark's Corners United Church on Saturday, March 2, 2002.
Robert will be with us always in our hearts and thoughts; we love him now, and forever.
At Robert's request, in lieu of flowers, donations were made in his memory to Toronto Hospital for Sick Kids Foundation and to Casey House Hospice in Toronto.

Mr. W. Elliott
On Sunday, August 21, there passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. W. Woods, Sault Ste. Marie, a well known and respected citizen of the Manitoulin Island in the person of Mr. W. Elliot. Born at Mindemoya, 43 years ago, Mr. Elliot lived all his life on the old homestead, where he first saw the light of day. The child of pioneer parents, he inherited a spirit of sturdy self-reliance which the early days of toil and hardships developed. He was a splendid type of citizen and a staunch friend and a good neighbor who possessed in a marked degree the confidence of the community in which he lived and was elected to the council board of the township of Carnarvon at the last municipal elections.
Mr. Elliott�s health began to fail over a year ago and despite specialist treatment his malady grew steadily worse. At the time of his death he was on his way to the Mayo Bros. hospital in Rochester where he hoped an operation might bring him relief, but was unable to proceed further than the Soo on his journey.
Twelve years ago Mr. Elliott was married to May Gordon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gordon. Four children were born to them, the eldest of which is ten and the youngest four years of age. His wife was hurriedly summoned by telegram and she reached his side just a few hours before his death.
Besides his wife and children, Mr. Elliott leaves five sisters to mourn his early demise. Miss Jessie of Hamilton, Mrs. W. Woods and Mrs. Ed Charters of Sault Ste Marie, Mrs. Goodbrand of Dundas and Mrs. Jno. Buck of Spring Bay.
The funeral service was held in Mindemoya union Church n Wednesday, August 24. Rev. Wm. Munro was in charge and was assisted by Rev. J. C. Cochrane of Sudbury, a school mate of the late Mr. Elliott, Rev. W. Bradford of Mindemoya.
The wealth of floral tributes and the large procession which followed the body to its last resting place in Mindemoya cemetery bore testimony to the esteem in which the deceased was held by his fellow citizens. The sympathy of the community is extended to the wife and children and the sisters in their great loss.

Funeral services were held on June 6th in the Mindemoya United Church for Wayne Howard Elliott, age 25 years. He passed away in Sudbury Memorial Hospital, June 3rd, after a lengthy illness. Rev. G.M. Paterson conducted the service and interment took place in Mindemoya Cemetery.
He was born, raised and educated in Mindemoya. Since then he was employed at Inco at the Levack Mine.
He was the eldest son of Marion and Howard Elliott. He married the former Ruth Pearson and they have two daughters � Bonnie, 5 years, and Debbie, 2 years.
Besides his wife, Ruth, and girls, he is succeeded by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Elliott, one sister Mary Lynn and five brothers, Gary of Sudbury, Allon of Windsor, Fred, Howee and Ronald at home. Also his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Glasby.
Pallbearers were Al Laidley, Graham Fogal, Doug Breathat, Ivor Caddel, Ronnie Nevilles and Roy Cooper. Ushers were Ralph Morrow and Paul Cadeaux.

Death of Freda Ellis
In the death of Miss Freda Ellis of Tehkummah, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan McArthur, which occurred a short time ago there passed from our midst one beloved by her parents and friends who lived in the vicinity. Her sad and untimely end came, after weeks of suffering, which was bourne (sic) with great fortitude by the afflicted girl, and she succumbed to the final attack of pneumonia on Friday, March 16th, at the age of 20 years and 4 months.
A short service was held at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. D. McArthur, Tehkummah, conducted by Rev. W. Bradford. The remains were brought to Mindemoya church where the funeral service was preached to a large gathering of sympathizing friends and school mates of the deceased. The body was borne to the Mindemoya cemetery where it was laid to rest. The beautiful wreaths from the S.S. class of which Freda was a member went to show the esteem in which she was held.
The favorite hymn of the deceased was sung, one which she loved to repeat during her illness, �Must Jesus bear the cross alone.�
The pall bearers were Harry Williamson, Frank Wright, Paul Hunter, Jim Little, Earl Martin and Rube Pyette.
The sympathy of the community goes out to the parents, Mr. and Mrs. McArthur also the grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J. Galbraith, with whom the deceased spent most her young life.

Obituary
It was with much sorrow we learned of the death of George Wellington Ellis which took place at his home in Providence Bay on July 29th.
The deceased was approaching his 19th birthday, which was September 5th. He was ailing for about for years, the last one being spent in hospital at Gravenhurst. He was conducted home in a weak condition some short time ago by the Rev. Mr. Bilton of Gravenhurst, and he enjoyed a kind and faithful mother�s care for a few weeks before he passed away.
George had a host of friends who loved him dearly. He always gained the confidence of his teacher at school and the highest esteem of his acquaintances everywhere. He was a real source of joy to all who had the blessed privilege of knowing him. He was an Orangeman and was attended by the lodge at his funeral, which lodge spared no effort possible to administer to his happiness while he was alive.
His funeral took place on July 30th conducted by the Rev. Mr. Ware of Providence Bay and was very largely attended, the body being laid to rest in the Mindemoya cemetery.
Although his life was short it was faithful and sweet to the last. He possessed great faith in his Saviour and greeted his friends with smiles the last hour of his life.
We join in conveying to his parents, relatives and friends our most sincere sympathy.

Barrie Island
The beloved wife of Robert Ellis passed away on Saturday April 26th at 12:05 o�clock at the age of seventy-nine years and seven months, after a lingering illness borne with patience and fortitude. For months the deceased had been in poor health and on April 14th Dr. McIntosh was called. Her death was due to heart failure.
The deceased was born in Toronto, her maiden name being Matilda Ellis. She was married to Robert Ellis sixty-five years ago.
The funeral took place on Monday April 28th the service being conducted by Rev. J. J. Fergusson of Gore Bay. The pall bearers were Messrs. Thos. Allen, George Vancise, H. Mervyn, G.A. Cole, W.O. Runnalls and Thos. Rumley.
The late Mrs. Ellis was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, her sister who lived with her, two sons, Fred of Barrie Island and Albert of Cobalt and two daughters, Mrs. Shaw of Brownlee, Sask. and Mrs. Sutherland of Port Arthur, Ont. Mrs. Sutherland was notified of her mother�s illness but did not arrive until Saturday evening.
Mrs. Ellis had been a member of the Home Department in the Sunday school of this place.
The funeral sermon will be preached in the school house next Sunday at 3 o�clock by Rev. J. J. Fergusson.

Carole M. Eloff of Sun City West, Arizona, passed away Friday, February 1, 2008, at the Hospice of Arizona facility in Sun City West; she fought a courageous battle with ovarian cancer for many years. Carole was born on August 30, 1932 in Decatur, Illinois; predeceased by parents Carl Louis Gates of Decatur and Lorna Delia Stewart of London, Ontario, Canada. Carole had three brothers: Hiram, predeceased, Jim of California and Bruce (Beverly) Gates of Michigan. John Eloff and Carole married on June 17, 1972 in Allen Park, Michigan. They lived in Dearborn, Michigan, before moving to Arizona and Sun City West in 1994. Carole attended the Lansing Eastern High School and later went to M.S.U. graduating with a B.S. in Education. She also attended Wayne State University and received the M.S. plus 30 in Education. Carole leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in the United States as well as on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada. She was a people person and enjoyed time golfing at the Manitoulin Island Country Club in Gore Bay. Teaching was her career. She taught in the Grosse Point, Michigan school system and Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, Michigan where she retired in 1984. She was a physical educator and counselor and coached field hockey, tennis and track and field during the early advent of girls' sports programs. Carole was an outdoor person, a golfer, tennis player and fisherwoman. Her home was not her recreation. We will miss her very much. An old resident of he Manitoulin passed away at Gore Bay on Saturday afternoon, March 25, in the person of Mr. William Emery at the age of 60 years and 5 months. He came to the Island thirty-five years ago from Lindsay, Ont., and settled in Tehkummah township. In 900 he married Mary Jane Elliott of Hilly Grove and eleven years ago they moved to Gore Bay.
The funeral was held in the United Church Monday morning, Rev. A.R. Gibson conducting the service there and at Gordon cemetery where the remains were laid to rest.
The sympathy of all is extended to the widow, and six children, Mrs. Elmer Greenman of Barrie Is., George, Andy, John, Margaret and Ethel at home and also is his four brothers and three sisters, George, Weldon, and Lizzie of Fenlow Falls, Ont., and Mrs. Chambers, Ephemia, Dave and Donald of the West.

Mrs Jessie Emiry
Death occurred on September 2 at the Vancouver General Hospital of Mrs. James Emiry, beloved wife of James C. Emiry, following an operation for Toxic Goitre.
Mr. and Mrs. Emiry lived in Gordon township before moving west and the announcement of her death will be sad news to many. Besides her husband one little boy, four years of age, one brother in Toronto and a sister in Scotland are left to mourn her loss.

DONALD CAMERON EMIRY
On February 9, 1991, Donald Cameron Emiry, husband of Ermyal, passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital in his 79th year.
Don was born on the Manitoulin Island and grew up in Thessalon, Ontario. He joined the Imperial Bank of Canada and worked for it and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce until retiring after 47 years of service.
Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his loss many nieces, nephews and friends. Cremation has taken place and, as he wished, no service will be held. If friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch or to the Sioux Lookout Extended Care Organization, P.O. Box 1269, Sioux Lookout, Ont. POV 2TO.

She was born in West Bay, daughter of the late Alexi and Sadie (Corbiere) Debassige. Beatrice had many interests and hobbies, which included quilting and knitting, playing bingo, cooking, going to casinos, and she loved to fish and to sing. Her greatest joy and pleasure was her family and spending time with them. A loving and loved sister, mother and friend, she will be sadly missed, but many memories will be cherished.
Predeceased by her husband Harold, son Floyd, brother Norman, sister Eliza, grandson Brian and great grandchild Courtney. loving memory of Ron Ense, a resident of M�Chigeeng, who began his spiritual journey at his residence, on Friday, November 9, 2012. He was born in Mindemoya, son of the late Harold and Beatrice (Debassige) Ense. Ron owned and operated Abby�s Dining and Catering for many years. He was passionate about cooking, and it showed in the meals he prepared. He also loved to read, sing, and had sung in the church choir, and tell stories. He loved to laugh and make others laugh, and his story telling entertained everyone, as they always contained lots of humour. He also loved to ride around with Zoe and Chloe, and was a compassionate friend of all animals, saving many strays. Ron was truly a �character� and was loved by all who knew him. He loved to visit with people. His greatest pleasure in life was his family, and he truly was loved by each and every one of them. Even throughhis illnesses in the past while, Ron still kept a smile and kept his humour the best he could. Many, many happy memories will be cherished. Ron is survived by his loved and loving family, Martin (Justeen), Sadie (Eldridge), Gerald (Debbie), Geraldine (Bill), Ken, Abby, Norma (Gary), Elsie (Patrick), Jay (Missy) and sister-in-law Janette, Floyd predeceased. He was born at Wikwemikong, son of the late Alfred and Sarah (Trudeau) Eshkakogan. He had worked as a Housing Inspector and was a jack of all trades. Hubert enjoyed attending Pow Wows, but his greatest joy in life was his family. He truly loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family gatherings were a very important part of his life. He will be sadly missed, but many memories will be cherished. Predeceased by his parents, his wife Victoria in 1996, sons Morris in December 2009, Alvin in 1977 and daughter Mary in 1966. He married Linda Jackson in Wikwemikong in 1993. Lorne was a self-employed Class "A" mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and the outdoors. He will be remembered for his delightful smile and his great sense of humour and friendship. Lorne was an active participant in the Rain Dance Ceremonies, acting as one of the grandfathers. Peter Eshkibok, 98, died Nov. 1 at Wikwemikong on Manitoulin Island. His wife to whom he had been married for 70 years survives him as does a daughter Tillie Eshkibok, who has returned to Sault Ste. Marie after attending the funeral.

STANLEY AUGUSTIN ESHKIBOK
In memory of Stanley Augustin Eshkibok, August 28, 1922 - December 11, 2006, 84 years. "Chi-Miigwetch B'Mawdziwin" Thank you for life. Husband of the late Julia Irene (Mishibinijima) Eshkibok, predeceased 1969. Beloved father to Gloria May Eshkibok (friend Daniel Gonzales) of Wikwemikong and Matthew and Julie Anne (both predeceased). Son of the late Peter and Agnes (Wakegijig) Eshkibok. Brother to Mary, Frank, Henry, Rose, Robert, Tillie, Doris and Elizabeth (all predeceased). Best friend to Ito, his dog. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Stanley farmed until he married in 1955. he worked in Toronto, Chicago and Detroit in construction as a labourer. He also hauled wood to the Espanola Mill and was the owner of the first dump truck in Wiky. He enjoyed playing cards, games and activities, watching ball and T-Bird hockey games. He enjoyed attending church services and was a Christmas decorating volunteer. Stanley was a past council member of WUIR. Finally, Stanley's greatest achievement was raising his daughter who is a renowned and respected artist. Friends called from 2 pm, Wednesday, December 13 at 170 Wabonosse Street. Mass was at 9 am at Holy Cross Mission on Friday, December 15, 2006. Interment in the Veteran's Cemetery. "Niigiiehn Daddy..." Go home Daddy... I will always remember and love you. I am sure our angels Matthew and Julie Anne will be there to greet you and take you home.

Elizabeth Esquimaux, a resident of Zhiibaahaasing First Nation, died at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Little Current, on Monday, October 15, 2001 at the age of 79 years. She was born at Coburn Island, and had lived in Sault Ste. Marie for many years, returning to Zhiibaahaasing about 5 years ago. She enjoyed knitting and quilting and socializing with friends. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Jonas Esquimaux. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her family, having been predeceased by her sisters Sarah, Lucy, Grace, Angeline and Mary Ann. The funeral mass was held at the Zhiibaahaasing Complex on Friday, October 19, 2001 with Father Michael Stogre as celebrant. Interment in Zhiibaahaasing Cemetery.

He was an opera singer, a secretary at the United Nations, and retired from LTD Steel. He played piano for friends and entertained patients at nursing homes both in Cleveland and on the Manitoulin. His wife Martha is well known for her stitchery of Island landmarks and Island maps. His love of the Manitoulin was shared with many friends and relatives. His spirit will always remain on the Island he loved.

CHARLOTTE EVANS
Woman Succumbs to Burns Received In House Fire
Mrs. Charlotte Evans died Thursday morning at Mindemoya Red Cross Hospital of severe burns received in a fire at the home of her son in Gordon township.
The house and contents belonging to Wm. Evans, a son of Mrs. C. Evans, were totally destroyed by the fire.
The late Mrs. Evans was in her 71st year and moved to Long Bay and later to Gordon township with her son from Hearst, Ont. She is survived by two daughters and three sons. Her husband predeceased her at Hearst Ont.on July 3rd 1940.
The funeral took place on Friday, March 28 with the Rev. J. W.E. Newberry in charge of the services.
Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Coles and son George of Woodstock, Ont. and Mr. George Evans of Toronto attended the funeral.

WILLIAM MABAEE "PARKER" EVANS
At the age of 95, William Mabee "Parker" Evans has passed away on Saturday January 9, 2010. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years Helen Margaret (Hindman); Parker is sadly missed by his son Paul (Nancy) and daughter Patricia. He was a loving grandfather to Chris (Jody-Lyn), Andy (Megan), Chantelle and Nicole Evans , Ian Brodie (JoAnn) and Enid Taggart (Ross); and was cherished by his 10 great-grandchildren. Parker is survived by his sisters Doris Stewart and Grace Thom. He was greatly involved with Hindman Transportation and the Hindman Evans Timber Company for most of his professional life, and was a devoted member of the Rameses Temple in the province of Ontario. Parker excelled in his passion for golf which he enjoyed with his dear friend Bunny Hare until the age of 92. He will be fondly remembered by countless relatives, friends and neighbours. Allen Everett, a resident of Silver Water (formerly of Lively), died at Laurentian Hospital, Sudbury, on Saturday, July 22, 2006 in his 65th year. He was born in Meldrum Bay, son of Helen Everett, a resident of Manitoulin Lodge and the late George Everett. Allen worked for Inco and then E.B. Eddy until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and four wheeling with his granddaughters. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but many fond memories will be cherished. Dearly loved husband of Kathleen (Addison) Everett for 45 years. Loving and loved father of Kimberly Everett, Espanola; Susan and husband Doug Slomke of Evansville. Very proud grandfather of Rebecca, Hailey, Victoria and Tori. Also remembered by best friend Vic Deline. In loving memory of Helen Everett, a resident of the Manitoulin Lodge, who died at the Lodge on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the age of 95 years. She was born on St. Joseph's Island, daughter of the late Frank and Bridget (Matheson) Morrison. Helen had a variety of interests including gardening, cooking, baking (making the best apple pies), travelling and she really liked shopping. Helen's greatest joy in life was having family and friends for meals and visiting with them. She was a past member of the Women's Institute and the Eastern Star. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband George Everett in 1999. Loving and loved mother of Charlie and his wife Helen of Meldrum Bay, Harold and his wife Bernice of Espanola, Diane and her husband Dennis McCurdy of Espanola, Lorena and her husband Gord Maki of Sioux Lookout and daughter-in-law Kay, husband Allen predeceased in 2006. Proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Predeceased by sisters Edna McDougall, Verna Smith and Wilhelmine McDonald. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends called at the Meldrum Bay United Church on Friday, April 30, 2010 from 11 am - 12 pm. ELIZABETH EWEN
EWAN, Elizabeth � passed away suddenly at the age of 87 years on March 19 at St. Mary�s General Hospital in Timmins. She was originally from Manitoulin Island settled in Matheson in the early 1920�s. Mrs. Ewen had made South Centennial Manor her home since 1983. She was predeceased by her husband, William in October 1983. She is survived by her sons including: Gren Ewen (wife Dorreen) and Henry Ewen of Matheson and John Ewen (wife Mildred) of Elliot Lake. Also surviving are; a brother Anthony Lehman of Matheson and sisters Beth Nicholas of Larder Lake and Gladys Bentley of Sarnia. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were handled by Malette Funeral Home.
