Moss | 1848 - 1937 |
We are looking for any information on our
great grandparents, William Moss and Elizabeth Broughen
also spelled Brougham/Broughan. William was born in Sherbrooke S.
about 1845 and Elizabeth was born in the Ramsay area about 1848.
They married in 1872/73 and had nine children including our grandmother,
Martha. William died on February 3, 1925 and Elizabeth in 1937.
They resided in Sherbrooke S. for most of their married lives. We
have been unable to locate where either are buried. The death
certificate for William states he was buried in Maberly but in
contacting the three cemeteries in Maberly they have no record of his or
Elizabeth's burial. The service for Elizabeth was held at the
United Church in Maberly but no record exists as to where she was
buried.
Would very much appreciate any information
anyone might have on William and Elizabeth Moss.

I am researching the history of Dr. William Mostyn. He was born in Ireland (1830s), raised in Kingston ONT, went to Queen's College in Kingston for his medical degree. He moved to Ramsey Township around 1860 to set up his practice. In the 1861 Census he was listed as living with the prominent Shipman family in Almonte. In 1871 he has living across the street from Registrar John Menzies. He died tragically in 1880 in the river between Almonte and Appleton after visiting a patient (capsized small boat). He was also the first Almonte mayor (1871), was an MLA for Lanark, and President of NLAS from 1867 until his death. Anyone with any information about his life, especially where he lived rom 1861 to 1871 would be greatly appreciated! |
