The Govan Weavers

The Govan Weavers' Society, 1756 - 1956.

A number of the Lanark Society Settlers originated from villages just outside Glasgow.  One of these was the village of Govan, which was a long-established centre for weaving.  The Govan Weavers' Society existed from 1756 - 1956.  The following image is a reproduction of the 1756 Contract of Society, showing its original membership.  Descendents from a number of these families later emigrated to Lanark County, Ontario.
