Hughes-Allan—Married, at Balderson, on June 24, by Rev. J.S. McIlraith, Mr. Elijah Hughes, Bathurst, to Miss Margaret C. Allan, second daughter of James Allan of Balderson.

On Wednesday evening June 24, a large number of guests numbering about 150 assembled at the handsome residence of James Allan, Balderson, the occasion being the marriage of his second daughter Maggie Allan to Elijah Hughes, a prosperous young farmer of Bathurst.  The marriage ceremony took place on the law, the grounds especially fitted for the occasion by an arrangement of evergreens, which added greatly to the beauty of the surroundings.  Miss Mary Allan acted as bridesmaid and Robert Hughes, cousin of the groom, acted as best man.  Rev. J.S. McIlraith performed the ceremony in his usual impressive manner.  The table containing the marriage supper was also set on the green and was surrounded by a bower of evergreens.  Toasts were drunk to the health of the bride and groom and also to the bridesmaid.  The number and richness of the gifts to the bride were something to be admired and an indication of the esteem her many friends have for her.  A happy evening was spent by all present, many enjoying themselves in dancing.

Father Duffus of St. John’s Church here, united in marriage John McCann, one of our popular livery men and Lizzie McGowan, daughter of one of Bathurst’s substantial farmers, Bernard McGowan.  A pleasant time was then spent by the bridal party and a host of friends at the home of the bride’s parents near Harper.  The bride was assisted by her sister Miss Annie McGowan and the groom by his brother James McCann.  The presents were numerous and valuable.

The Renfrew Mercury of last week says that Miss Ida Belle Perrault, daughter of Thomas Perrault (once of Perth) was married to W.R. Fowler of Ottawa, now station agent at Sand Point.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. John Webster.

Watson’s Corners:  Miss Theresa A. Craig, second daughter of J.A. Craig, was married to C. Donaldson in Lanark on Wednesday last.  The marriage took place at the manse after which the young people repaired to the home of the bride’s parents where a few of the relatives were assembled.  After tea and a few pleasant hours of social intercourse the young couple drove to their home followed by the good wishes of a host of friends.

A pleasant event took place on Wednesday noon this week at the residence of Mrs. J. Bower, Craig Street when her eldest daughter Emma J. Bower was married to Dr. J.A. Burgess of Lakefield, Ontario.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. G.G. Huxtable pastor of the Methodist Church in the presence of the bride’s family and other friends.  The bride was attended by her sister Miss Cassie Bower and at the conclusion of the ceremony the party sat down to a sumptuous wedding dinner after which the bridal couple left on the 3:00 train for Brockville there to take the boat to Quebec.  The presents to the bride were very numerous and choice and are expressive of the esteem and affection felt on the part of the donors.

The marriage was announced on Thursday of last week of H.H. Lepper, nephew of Mrs. E. G. Malloch of this town, to a young lady of Kingston, Jamie MacPherson.  Mr. Lepper lived in Perth for some years and is still well known in the town.

Whyte-Henderson—Married, at Perth on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at St. James Church, by Rev. W. J. Muckleston, M.A., Rector, Mr. Robert John Whyte of Smith’s Falls, son of the late James Whyte, Esq., to Ethel Thureson Henderson, third daughter of the late J.T. Henderson, Esq., of Perth.

St. James Church was very prettily decorated with flowers and ferns on Wednesday of this week by the friends of the bride to honor the occasion of the marriage of Ethel T. Henderson daughter of the late J.T. Henderson to Albert J. Whyte of Smith’s Falls.  Promptly at 11:00 the bridal party arrived at the church and the ceremony was performed by Rev. W.J. Muckleston, M.A., rector.  The bride was attended by two bridesmaids and was given away by John MacGillivray of Smith’s Falls who was an old and very close friend of the late Mr. Henderson.  She wore a handsome gown of rich ivory satin with regulation veil and orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of white roses.  Miss M. Isabel Henderson, sister of the bride and Miss Ada Lowndes of Toronto were the bridesmaids.  They wore white silk and chiffon and carried bouquets of delicate pink roses.  Henri Panel of the Royal Canadian Artillery, Quebec, was best man.  The ushers were Messrs. J.S. Ibboston(?), Montreal; J.B. Waddell of the Union Bank, Merrickville; Fred Gray, Toronto; and Edmund Senkler of Perth.  After the ceremony a reception was held at Thoreson(?) Place, Drummond Street, the residence of the bride’s mother.  The wedding was quiet but very pretty, the invited guests including only a very few of the immediate friends of the bride and groom.  Among those present were the Rev. and Mrs. Muckleston, Harold Muckleston, Dr. and Mrs. Kellock, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Rogers, the Misses Senkler, the Misses Shaw, Mr. H.M. Shaw, Misses Mary and Kathleen McLaren, the Misses Ethel and Jessie Taylor, Miss Joan Matheson, Miss Katie Beach, as well as the following from a distance:  Mrs. L.H. Henderson of Belleville; Mr. F.T. Frost, M.P. and Mrs. Frost of Smith’s Falls; Mrs. Grant of Ottawa; Miss Jean Whyte of Sherbrooke.  Among the many gifts received one which is especially prized is a silver tea service sent from Scotland by Mr. and Mrs. John Wordie of Glasgow who are relatives of Mrs. Henderson.  Mr. MacGillivray’s present to the bride was a check.

Pollick-Failing(?)—Married, at St. Mary’s Church, Little Falls, New York, on Wednesday, (date illegible) August, by Rev. Father White, Mr. William G. Pollick of Little Falls, formerly of Perth to Miss Maud A. Failing(?) daughter of Mr. Jason Failing(?) of Little Falls.

William G. Pollock of Little Falls, New York who worked when a lad learning printing in the Courier office, was married last week to a young lady of that town.  Willie is a foreman in the press room in the leading newspaper office in Little Falls.

Clayton:  On Tuesday evening last a happy gathering assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jno. R. Tennant.  The event was the marriage of his daughter Ada Tennant one of the most popular young ladies in this vicinity to James Reilly, one of Ramsay’s most promising young men.  The bride was assisted through the trying ordeal by Maggie Sinclair of Carleton Place while Mr. Reilly of Ottawa assisted the groom.  The Rev. J.M. McLean, B.A. performed the ceremony.  The young couple will reside in Ramsay.

On Wednesday morning at 9:30 a quiet wedding took place at the residence of Mrs. William McNairn Shaw, Foster Street, where her daughter Margaret Campbell Shaw was united in marriage to Henry Rudyerd Boulton, accountant at the Bank of Montreal in this town.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. W. J. Muckleston, rector of St. James Church in the presence of the friends of the bridal couple.  The drawing room was beautifully decorated with festoons of flowers and ribbons, plants, etc. and over the bride and groom during the ceremony hung a ball of white sweet peas.  The bride was given away by her brother A.C. Shaw and Miss Maggie E. McLaren and Miss Daisy Boulton of Toronto, sister of the groom acted as bridesmaids while F.W. Hall, cousin of the bride, performed the duties of best man.  After the ceremony an elegant breakfast was partaken of after which the bridal party set out for Smith’s Falls in carriages to catch the train going south being accompanied there by a number of friends.  The presents to the bride were numerous and valuable and came from many places besides the town.  It may not be generally known that the groom Mr. Boulton, although born in Toronto, belongs to a family a branch of which were among the earliest settlers here and who occupied an important position in town many years ago.  The family owned a good part of what is now the west ward and D’Arcy and Boulton Streets were named after Christian and surnames of the family all of whom long ago removed to Toronto or Orillia.

On Wednesday of last week William McLaren and Carrie Poole, sister of Messrs. John and Alfred Poole all of North Elmsley, were united in marriage by Rev. Mr. Huxtable, pastor of the Perth Methodist Church.  Miss Sadie Poole of Drummond acted as bridesmaid and Thomas McLaren assisted his brother through the ceremony.  The popular bride was the recipient of many presents of value and beauty.

The Winnipeg Tribune publishes a marriage notice of a young lady who visited in this vicinity last winter and spring at her grandfather’s in North Elmsley, William Oatway.  Mrs. Russell is a daughter of the late Richard Oatway who left Almonte for Manitoba about 15 years ago and died there.  The young bride was both esteemed and admired during her visit last winter.  The Tribune says:  “Rev. R.G. McBeth returned yesterday from Dominion City where he went to officiate at the marriage ceremony which united as partners in life John Russell to Bertha Oatway.  Mr. Russell is well known as a student at Manitoba College and the successful missionary in charge of the Presbyterian Church in Dominion City.  The marriage ceremony took place at the residence of the bride’s brother, John Oatway at Greenridge in the presence of a large company.  Miss Jessie Otaway was bridesmaid and Mr. J.H.G. Russell, architect of Winnipeg supported the groom.  Many wedding presents from far and near attested to the esteem in which the young couple are held by their friends.  Mr. Russell is much beloved by the congregation to whom he ministers.”

On Wednesday of this week James Allan, owner of the Allan House block and Miss Joanna Gemmell, daughter of the late Robert Gemmell, all of this town, were united in marriage at the residence of the bride’s brother, by Rev. A.H. Scott of St. Andrew’s Church.  Miss Mabel Williams of Ottawa acted as bridesmaid and Robert Patterson, barrister, Carleton Place, was bridegroom.  The wedding company comprised only the relations of the bride and groom and were, among others:  Mrs. (Hon) Peter McLaren and family, Mr. and Mrs. William Lees of Fallbrook; Mrs. Inderwick, Miss Lees, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gemmell of Perth; Mr. and Mrs. A. R. G. Peden of Carleton Place; Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Dennison of Perth; Mr. and Mrs. Peter McPhail of Drummond.  Among the beautiful presents was a very handsome mantel clock with onyx frame presented by the tenants of the Allan House block.  After the wedding dinner Mr. and Mrs. Allan left on a wedding trip; a large company of friends assembled at the station to see them off.

In St. Bridget’s Church, Stanleyville, on Monday, 21st Sept., a very pretty wedding took place when Harriett Byrne, daughter of John Byrne of Stanleyville, was united in marriage to Phillip J. Donnelly.  The bride was attired in a beautiful costume of cream silk with lace trimming, hat and feathers to match.  Miss Henrietty Byrne, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid.  The groom was attended by James Donnelly of Westport.  After 9:00 the bride, leaning on the arm of her father, came into the church where the groom waited to receive her.  The Rev. T.P. O”Connor, performed the marriage ceremony and immediately afterwards celebrated the nuptial mass at which a large number of friends and relatives sang some beautiful and appropriate and appropriate hymns, Miss Maggie McMartin prsiding at the organ.  This kind mark of consideration on the part of the choir but was heartily appreciated by all as it was well deserved by the recipient of it as the bride was always one of the choirs most faithful and zealous members.  After the ceremony was over and the bride and groom received the congratulations of their friends, a few of the immediate relatives repaired to the residence of the bride’s parents where a sumptuous dinner awaited them.  The Rev. Pastor Father O’Connor was present and presided.  The bride was the recipient of a large selection of rich and costly presents which proved the respect with which the bride and groom are held by their friends.  In the evening over 100 people assembled  and enjoyed themselves until the early morning.

A quiet wedding took place on Monday, Oct. 12 at the residence of the bride’s father, Joseph Park of Poland, when his daughter Miss Marion of Almonte was married to John Scott of that place.  The bride was assisted by her cousin Miss Ella Umpherson and the groom by his brother William Scott.  Only a few of the near relatives were present to witness the ceremony which was performed by Rev. Mr. McIlroy.

St. John’s Church, Perth, was the scene of a very happy event on Tuesday last, the occasion being the marriage of Lizzie Doyle, eldest daughter of A. Doyle of this place to John Lambert, of Perth.  The bride was tastefully attired and was assisted by Bridget Lambert, sister of the groom and the groom was assisted by J. Doyle, brother of the bride.  After the ceremony the bridal party drove to the residence of the bride’s parents where a number of intimate friends had gathered and all partook of a sumptuous dinner after which the young couple left for their future home in Perth.

Lanark Links:  Zion church here was the scene of a happy event on Wednesday evening last week in the marriage of George J. Hunt, druggist, to Edith Robertson, daughter of J.G. Robertson both of Lanark.  The front seats of the church being reserved for the guests the remaining ones were filled by spectators also the aisles and entrance were crowded by spectators who wanted to witness the ceremony.  The groom arrived attended by J.A. Watt and the bride a little later leaning on the arm of her brother R.W. Robertson, who performed the duty of giving her away.  Miss Nettie Robertson acted as bridesmaid while Master Ewart Robertson and Miss Eva Drysdale acted as page and ladies maid respectively.  The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. D.C. McIntosh and then the happy couple were driven to the residence of the bride’s mother where they all sat down to the wedding feast. Many were the valuable presents received by the bride.

The Carleton Place Central Canadian says:  “A very pleasant day was spent at the residence of John McEachen of Ramsay on Wednesday of last week.  The event was the marriage of his daughter Miss Katie McEachen to William Devlin of Drummond.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Father O’Rourke.  The bride looked lovely in her handsome brown costume and was assisted by Miss Minnie McDonald who was neatly dressed in gray.  Martin Doyle of Perth helped the groom.  After leaving the church, the bridal party drove to the home of the bride where with some guests they partook of a sumptuous dinner.  They then drove to their future home where the bride was again welcomed by many of the groom’s friends and the night pleasantly passed.

The Elizabeth, New Jersey Daily Journal of Nov. 11 contains the following announcement.  The bride is the eldest daughter of our old townsman William Templeton:  Victoria M. Templeton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Templeton, of 3rd Street, was married last night at Greystone Presbyterian Church to Charles Miller.  Mr. Miller was attended by August Smith and the bride by Katie Miller, sister of the groom and her maid of honor was Violet Templeton.  The bride was given away by her father and Rev. George Buckle performed the ceremony.  The bride wore a gown of white silk and carried a bouquet of roses.  The bridesmaid wore nile green and carried pink roses and the maid of honor wore canary crepe and carried pink roses.”

On Wednesday evening the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frayne, Scotch Line, was the scene of a very pleasant event being the marriage of their daughter Edith to Robert G. Bournes of the same locality.  The ceremony took place at 9:00 by Rev. A. H. Scott, Presbyterian minister, Perth, in the presence of the parties and a few neighbors.  The bride was assisted by Miss Nessie(?) McKinley and her sister Miss Emma Frayne and Mr. George A.D. Maileu(?) of Ottawa performing the duties for the groom.  After the ceremony the bridal party sat down to a bountiful supper, the prime ornament on the table being the beautiful bridal cake.  The bride who is one of the most charming young ladies of the neighborhood, received many valuable and beautiful presents from her host of friends.  The groom was formerly a member of the civil service at Ottawa but had to quit that occupation on account of his health.  He is now one of the most enterprising and progressive farmers on the line.  He is a cousin of Judge Mosgrove of Ottawa.

Norris, blacksmith of this place.  The bride was beautifully attired in a suit of cream cashmere trimmed with ribbon and velvet and was assisted by her sister Miss Emma who was also dressed in cream; while Thomas Norris, brother of the groom, acted as groomsman.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Burke, Methodist minister pastor at Westport in the presence of a large crowd of friends and acquaintances.  After the ceremony the doors of the dining room were opened and about 90 guests sat down to dinner.  After supper, dancing, games, etc., were indulged in and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

About 100 relatives and intimate friends were present at the marriage of James W. McViety, North Elmsley and Jennie Woods of South Elmsley on Wednesday of last week.  The ceremony was performed at the residence of the bride’s parents and was conducted by Rev. N.B. Topping of the Methodist Church.  Mary Woods, a cousin of the bride was bridesmaid and G.A. McViety was groomsman.  The bride was dressed in golden velvet.  Mr. McViety has a comfortable home just built to receive his bride.

Hopetown:  On the evening of Wednesday last the residence of Mr. F. Gunn was the scene of a happy marriage and the contracting parties were Annie Gunn and Alfred Park.  During the ceremony the young couple were assisted by Miss Jessie Park as bridesmaid and F.(?) or P.(?) Gunn as groomsman.  Both ladies were attired in dresses of rich blue color and the groom and groomsman in suits of black.  Rev. Mr. McAuley performed the ceremony with his usual quaint sayings and humorous ways and succeeded in greatly enlivening the evening which all present enjoyed.

Lanark Links:  The home of Thomas Watt was the scene of a happy event—the marriage of William Knowles of Ashland to Maggie Watt.  The bride was assisted by her sister Nellie while M. Knowles acted as groomsman.  The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. D.C. McIntosh while James Watt performed the duty of giving the bride away.  After the ceremony all sat down to a splendid dinner and then proceeded to spend an enjoyable evening. The young couple propose to go to Ashland at the end of the week where they will make their future home.

Walpole Murdock, proprietor of the Pilot Mound Manitoba, Sentinel, was married in Toronto on Wednesday afternoon, December 9, to Ada L. Pirie, daughter of George Pirie of Guelph and brother of Alexander Pirie of the Dundas Runner.  Mr. Murdock is a nephew of Mrs. John G. Campbell of this town.
