The following was taken from the Cookshire Chronicle.  Mr. Moore, son of Mr. T.B. Moore, Esq., of Drummond, was married to Laura Learned at Cookshire on Tuesday, 10th April.  “Some time before 7:00 people commenced coming from all parts of town and vicinity and long before the service took place every available seat in the church was taken and by 7:30 there was hardly standing room, a slight token of the high esteem in which Miss Learned was held by all classes there being no distinction in race and religion.  The church had been tastefully arranged the whole pulpit altar being built up with the choicest flowers and at the organ Miss Nunns of Coaticook, organist in the Methodist church, Sherbrooke, presided.  Promptly on time the bridegroom, accompanied by his brother and Master William Learned as groomsman, entered the church, immediately followed by the bride, leaning on the arm of her father.  She was tastefully dressed and accompanied by her bridesmaids her sister Miss Georgie Learned and her cousin Miss Helen Learned and the three little daughters of Mr. and Mrs. John Learned.  After the short but impressive wedding service they returned to the home of Mr. Learned and on their way the bells of both the Methodist and Episcopal churches pealed out in congratulations to the newly married couple.  At 9:30 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Moore left by the Main Central Railway train and received a right royal send off.  The platform and all around the station was crowded with their many friends who supplied rice by the bushel and cheers unnumbered on their departure.  Mr. and Mrs. Moore will take up their residence at West Stewartstown, N.H. and we hope their life may be as pleasant as the day and evening on which they were married which was perfect, for Cookshire has lost as fine a young lady as any place can claim, honored and respected by all who knew her.”

Second Line Drummond:  Beneath the dome of nature’s vast cathedral when the level rays of the setting sun were beautifying with gentler touch the surrounding landscape, clad in all its vernal freshness and grandeur when all was hushed in the stillness of the departing day, a fair bride, leaning on her father’s arm, advanced to the altar to be given away.  When the ever changing tapestry of sunset was hung around the horizon wall then in the early twilight were uttered the solemn and impressive words which made William A. Nichols and Katie A. Hands man and wife.  The groom is the only son of Mayor Nichols of the firm A. Nichols and Son of Carleton Place and the bride is the youngest daughter of Thomas Hands, ex-warden of the county.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. W. J. Robinson of Morrisburg and William T. Hands, brother of the bride.  The guests who numbered about sixty couples were from Perth, Smith’s Falls, Franktown, Carleton Place, Galbraith, Lanark, McDonald’s Corners and Dunbar, Dakota as well as those from the surrounding country.  The wedding repast over, the sounds of merriment and happiness arose from every area in the spacious and elegant mansion of Mr. Hands.  On swift wings, the night hours passed away and the mists of morning had risen and were scattered before the guests had all departed.  Mr. and Mrs. Nichols, amidst the congratulations of many friends, left on the 1:00 train on an extensive tour.  They will visit Kingston, Peterboro, Toronto, Niagara Falls, and other points of interest after which they will take up their residence in Carleton Place.  The bride was the recipient of many beautiful and costly presents, all beautiful in design and workmanship.  Conspicuous among them were a gold watch and chain from the groom, a piano from the bride’s father, a silver tea service from Mayor Nichols and a marble clock from the employees of A. Middleville:  One of the pleasant events of the past season was the marriage of Hugh Rodger, son of Mr. James Rodger, Sr., to Alice Ann Woods, daughter of the late Mr. Charles Woods.  The marriage took place at the residence of the bride’s mother.  The Rev. Mr. Buchanan of Lanark Village performed the marriage ceremony.

This afternoon at 2:00 at St. Paul’s Church, Elsie Meighen eldest daughter of Mr. Robert Meighen of Peel Street, was married to Robert Reford, eldest son of Robert Reford of Drummond Street.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. James Barclay, D.D.  The church was beautifully decorated with white flowers:  roses, spires and smilax being used very efficiently against a background of palms.  The bride entered the church with her father followed by her four bridesmaids, the maid of honor, Miss Edith Reford and the ushers.  She wore a French gown of heavy white satin made very simply, orange blossoms being the only trim; her veil of Brussels’ net was fastened with a spray of orange blossoms.  At her throat she wore a heart shaped miniature brooch surrounded with diamonds, a gift of the groom and carried a huge bouquet of white roses. The bridesmaids’ gowns were of glace silk, the skirts were plain, finished by a narrow frill; the bodices were covered very full with pink chiffon caught with bow knots of moiré ribbon and had collars and sashes of ribbon.  The small tulle toques were trimmed with violets.  Miss Edith Reford wore pink, Miss Oliva Stephens and Miss Isabel McLennon pale blue.  The two bridesmaids’ hats of white were trimmed with tiny pink and white flowers of white ribbon.  They all wore initial brooches of turquoise and pearls and carried shower bouquets of pink roses the gifts of the groom.  Frank Meighen was best man and the ushers were A. Reford, George Cantlie, Bartley McLennan and Tom Henderson.  Mrs. Meighen, mother of the bride, wore a French gown of pale green and heliotrope brocade trimmed with lovely lace and French embroidery of different colored beads.  The small bonnet was formed of the stems of the roses which were of the deepest pink shade and had upstanding bows of lace and moss green velvet strings, bouquets of pink roses.  The only guests were members of both families and very intimate friends, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reford, Miss Angus of Liverpool, Lord and Lady Mount-Stephen, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stephen, Mrs. Arthur Meighen of Perth, Mr. and Mrs. Pelton, Mrs. Stephenson, Mr. and Mrs. George Cantlie, Miss Cantlie, Sir Donald and Lady Smith, Mr. Cavernton, Mrs. John Hope, Mr. McLannan, Miss McLennan, Miss Margaret Angus and Dr. Dillon.  After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s father on Peel Street.  The house resembled a huge conservatory; from the steps leading from the street it was one mass of green and beautiful flowers; and from stately palms to dainty maidenhair every imaginable green was represented.  The halls and staircase were lined with ferns against which the glorious masses showed in vivid relief.  The long drawing rooms had plants, tall vases and bowls of flowers in every conceivable place.  One piece of brilliant color was a Bohemian glass jar filled with red and pink gladioli; another a bowl of Australian poppies of deepest orange; the dining room table decorations were entirely in white, spruce, roses, Bermuda and Japanese lilies in plants and cut flowers.  The bridal cake was round, of the new squat shape and was also decorated.  The gifts were very beautiful and have come from almost every part of the world.  The bride was the recipient of four cablegrams which were from London, Paris, Dresden and Vienna also many gifts from school friends on the other side and a lovely table center sent by her English governess in Dresden.  (note, further long list of gifts not transcribed).  Mr. and Mrs. Reford left for New York on the 4:40 train and will be away for a month; on their wedding trip they will occupy a country house at Thompson Point near St. Anne’s.
