On Wednesday of this week a pleasant company assembled at the residence of William Grimsby, Smith’s Falls, to witness the marriage of their daughter Annie Grimsby to Robert E. Beal of Ottawa, son of Charles Beal of Perth.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Huxtable, pastor of the Methodist Church.  The bride was supported by her sister and the groom by his brother William.  The presents were many and valuable, among them being a handsome family Bible given by Mr. and Mrs. Beal, parents of the groom.  At the conclusion of the wedding dinner the happy couple started by train for their new home in Ottawa.

We copy from the Empire on Tuesday the following marriage notice interesting to Perth readers from the fact that the bride Miss Reta Ryan is a native of Perth, being the second daughter of our late townsman Hugh Ryan:  “Quite a pleasing affair occurred at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on the 21st Aug. as Percival T. Greene, late Manager of the Academy of Music and son of Columbus M. Greene was united in marriage to Miss Reta Ryan, daughter of Mr. Hugh Ryan, contractor, Hollydene, Rosedale(?).  The ceremony was performed by Rev. P.T. Rowe, rector of St. James Church.  Only a few intimate friends were present.  The happy couple are now at Rossiu (?) House leaving at the end of the week for a two week tour through the principal cities of the U.S.”

The residence of Mrs. Thomas Fluker of Pembroke on Wed., 9th inst., was the scene of a very pleasant event on the occasion of the marriage of Mr. William Way, train dispatcher of North Bay to her sister Louise Deacon, daughter of the late James Deacon of S. Sherbrooke.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Scanlon and the ceremony was a quiet one only near relatives being present.  Among those were His Honor Judge Deacon, Thomas Deacon, Q.C. and S.F. Mitchell, Police Magistrate, all uncles of the bride.  The bride was attended by her cousin Miss Minnie Deacon and the groom by Mr. Hewitts.  A most enjoyable evening was spent after the knot was tied and the happy couple greeted with a hurricane of congratulations.  They left on the midnight train for Brockville, Thousand Islands, Kingston, Toronto and other points of interest.  An unusual incident for Pembroke was that no less than four brides left town on the same train.

Lanark Links:  The residence of James Barrie, Paisley on Wed., 9th inst., was the scene of a very pleasant event the marriage of R.W. Robertson, one of Lanark’s most popular young men to Miss M. Barrie.  The bride was assisted by Miss Brown of Toronto and the groom by F.J. Day of the Congregational College, Montreal.  The happy couple left on the 10:00 train for the western cities.

On Wednesday evening last the large and elegant mansion of Reuben Stedman of Drummond was filled to overflowing with a large and merry company who assembled to honor with their presence the nuptials of Lizzie Stedman and Alfred James.  The bride’s presents were numerous and elegant.  William Armstrong acted as groomsman and Maud Cullen as bridesmaid.  After the ceremony was performed by Rev. W.G. Henderson according to the solemn ritual of the Methodist Church, the party repaired to the dining room where a rare and beautiful repast awaited the happy party.

An event of considerable interest to a number of people in this vicinity took place on Thursday morning at the residence of James McVean, Numogate, the occasion being the marriage of his sister-in-law Jessie Campbell, daughter of the late Duncan Campbell of Perth and F. Edwards of Drayton, Dakota.  The bride was attired in a traveling costume of fawn cloth handsomely trimmed with brown velvet and wore a toque to match.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. Mr. Grigg of Perth and was witnessed by a few of the nearest friends and relatives of the contracting parties.  At the conclusion of the ceremony an elegant wedding repast was served and shortly afterwards Mr. and Mrs. Edwards drove into town and took the train for Toronto where they will spend a few days previous to leaving for their western home.  Mr. Edwards is a prosperous mill owner at Drayton and has a number of friends in this vicinity.  The esteem in which the bride is held was shown by the array of costly and the number of presents.  Among them were several pieces of silver, an elegant display of china and glassware, a quantity of table linen each for a considerable sum of money and many other valuable and useful articles. Another of those events that ripple the placid surface of Perth society took place at the home of Robert Lillie of Gore Street on Wednesday evening.  A large company assembled literally from the east and the west as guests were from Montreal and Toronto and greetings came from far away Manitoba and Colombia.  The occasion of the happy gathering was the marriage of Anna Lillie to Samuel Thornbury.  The happy couple are among the most highly esteemed of this town.  The ceremony was performed by Rev. W. G. Henderson of Asbury Church.  The bridegroom was attended by Robert Meighen, Jr. and the bride by Miss Maggie Graham of Toronto.  The marks of esteem presented to the young couple by their numerous admirers were rich and elegant.  Among them was an elegant bookcase and study chair presented to Mr. Thornbury by the guests of the Allan House, who have been fellow boarders with him for six years.  After the ceremony was performed the guests took a ‘recherche’ in the dining room and the evening passed pleasantly away with music and conversation.

The Vancouver, B.C. daily News Advertiser of the 25th (?) March, announces the marriage of Hannah Walker, daughter of Mr. Robert Walker of this town to George W. Weeks, one of Vancouver’s leading merchants.  The ceremony took place on the 24th November and was performed by Rev. E. D. McLaren of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.  A large number of presents showed the popularity of the bride.  The couple left for a week’s trip to Victoria.
