Smith, Rev. W.H. Smith, pastor of the M.E. Church, officiating.  Seldom if ever has the Acorn been called upon to chronicle the union of a more popular and worthy young couple then this one.  Both are well known to the people of Oakland and vicinity and no words on our part could add to their popularity.  Miss Jennie was born in Oakland and has spent all but part of her life here and by her amiable disposition and many accomplishments has made for herself hosts of firm friends and we are glad to have this opportunity to pay this well deserved tribute.  Dr. Smith came here from Canada about three years ago and started in the practice of his profession both honest and conscientious in all his dealings, a true gentleman and withal having a most thorough medical education he has made a success far beyond his most sanguine expectations and is well worthy of the wife he has won.  The elegant new home of W. H. Freeman where the ceremony was performed was handsomely decorated with evergreens and roses.  At 8:30, the contracting parties, attended by bridesmaids and groomsmen, marched into the room to the wedding march played by Miss Ida Morrison and took their positions in the east window of the north room, in which an arch of roses was hung and just below were two hearts also of roses and here the vows were made that launched two lives out on the sea of matrimony and from the look of happiness on their faces it could not be doubted that both were well content to embark on it.  After the ceremony, supper was served in the upper room, which was decorated with evergreens and flags in profusion.  The ceremony was performed in the presence of 84 of the relatives and most intimate friends of the bride and groom and the presents were many and valuable both for their intrinsic worth and the feelings that prompted their bestowal.”
