The Collingswood Bulletin of June 27 gives the following particulars of the marriage: “At 1:30 pm yesterday a very pretty wedding occurred at the residence of Mrs. George Smith of Huron Street when her only daughter Jessie was married to Dr. E. The bride was charmingly attired in a beautiful brown dress suitably trimmed. The happy couple left on the afternoon train for Toronto. After their wedding tour they will reside at Carleton Place where Dr. McEwen has a good medical practice. For a number of years Mrs. McEwen has been prominent among the workers of the Presbyterian church.”

Church, to Miss Mary E. MacArthur,
eldest daughter of Mr. D. MacArthur of “Hilldale”, Charlottenburg,
Althorpe: Weddings seem to be all the rage around here as well as elsewhere for during the past two weeks we have lost two of our amiable young ladies, Miss Annie Neil and Jessie Deacon, the grooms being respectively Edwin Dowdell of Althorpe and Will Spence of Prospect. Miss Neil’s wedding was largely attended by relatives of the bride and groom and the number of beautiful and useful presents showed the esteem in which she is held. Among the many guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Boyd the former being an esteemed pastor. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it was not long after the second sumptuous supper had been partaken of that the people returned to their places of abode.
Owing to an oversight, the following was
omitted from our last week’s issue: A
very pretty wedding was celebrated on the 19th June at the residence
of James Blair, Esq., Bathurst, when his daughter Isabella, was united in marriage with William J. Wilson, of the Scotch Line. The ceremony was performed by Rev. A.H. Scott and took place
on the lawn in front of the house. The
bride looked charming in heliotrope satin and was assisted by her sister, Miss
Jenny Blair, with her niece Miss Bella McCallum as her maid of honor.
Gilbert Wilson, brother of the groom, was best man.
Supper was served to the guests immediately after the service and the
remainder of the night was spent in dancing.
Mr. Blair’s home is splendidly adapted for accommodating a large
gathering for the reason that in front of the dwelling is a spacious lawn which
on this occasion was plentifully supplied with chairs and couches and lighted
with Chinese lanterns which made it a favorite retreat by the dancers.
The district band drove out early in the evening and did much to add to
the success of the occasion.

A small but very merry party assembled
last Wednesday evening at the residence of Robert Smith, North Elmsley to
witness the marriage of his second daughter Carrie
B. Smith to J.C. Suter (note, see previous issue where groom is referred to
as “Thomas”) of Crystal City, N.D. The
knot was tied by Rev. D. Currie. The
bride, who carried a beautiful bouquet of cream roses was dressed in cream
cashmere trimmed with Maire silk and wore orange blossoms in her hair. The
bridesmaid was Mary Smith, who was also dressed in cream cashmere and wore a
brooch studded with pearls and brilliants, a gift of the groom.
R. W. Suter of Carleton Place, brother of the groom, performed the duty
of groomsman. After the company had
partaken of supper, they returned to the parlor where they spent the hours until
midnight in music and pleasant conversation.
The presents were numerous and of rare value and beauty.
One of theses gifts was particularly admired on account if its unique
character was a Japanese album filled with pictures illustrative of Japanese
life and all executed in the highest form of native art.
It was a present from the bride’s cousin Miss Jennie Smith, who is at
the head of a school in Japan for training professional nurses. The groom’s gift was a brooch set with brilliants.
Dr. and Mrs. Suter left the same evening for a tour of the lakes with the

Elsewhere in the same paper:
The Renfrew Mercury says: “The social event of the week and one in which there was much interest on the part of the many friends of the young couple who were the chief actors in the event—was the marriage on Wednesday evening of Dr. Cleary to Miss Emma Lister, second daughter of Mr. F.A. Wainwright Lister, manager of the Renfrew branch of the Merchant’s Bank. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W.M.H. Quartermaine at Mr. Lister’s residence in the presence of only the immediate relatives of the bride and groom. Miss Lister was the bridesmaid and Drs. S.H. Murphy supported the groom. A point in which our fair readers will be much interested is a description of the costumes worn by the ladies. The bride was attired in a dress of white satin with brocaded train and trimmings of Spanish lace, white satin ribbons, orange blossoms, and veil and carried in her hand a bouquet of white roses. Miss Lister wore a dress of white India silk with trimmings of white silk lace and carried a large bouquet of white and pink roses. The wedding presents came from all parts of the Dominion and were of the very choicest and most elegant description. Among them was a silver pitcher bearing a suitable inscription from the members of the Lacrosse club to their old comrade, Dr. Cleary, who has always been a devoted friend of the national sport. After an artistically set supper, the happy couple took the Soo train for Montreal, Quebec and Saguenay(?).
