William Mortimer of Drummond, near the town limits, the well known free trade controversialist(?) from a farmer’s standpoint and who was also at one time principal of the Perth Public School, was married on Wednesday afternoon to Maggie McKinnon of this town late of Dalhousie. Rev. A. H. Scott, Presbyterian pastor, performed the ceremony.  In the evening Mr. Mortimer and his bride entertained a number of friends and neighbors at their residence where an enjoyable time was spent.

On the last day of July, an interesting event took place in St. John’s Church, Perth in the shape of the marriage by Rev. Father Duffus of James Sergeant of Arnprior to Mary Ann Doyle, eldest daughter of Mr. Peter Doyle, 5th Line Lanark.  The bride was assisted by her sister Kate and the groom by John Sullivan of Arnprior.  After the wedding the bridal party proceeded to the home of the bride’s father where they and their friends from Perth, Arnprior, Fitzroy and Huntley and Drummond were hospitably entertained.  In the evening the marriage was celebrated by the customary dance where the utmost enjoyment and social amusement prevailed till the break of day.  The bride received a great many presents which were given out of great affection felt for her by her friends.

The Rev. Alexander Macaulay, Congregational minister of Middleville, was married on Thursday, 24th August to Sarah Coward Turner Melville, a daughter of Hugh Melville, Esq., silk manufacturer of Beith(?), Scotland.  The marriage took place at the Revere House in this town and the knot was tied by Rev. W.S. Smith, Presbyterian minister of Middleville.  A limited number of invited guests were present who sat down to an early dinner which was got up in first class style by W. J. Flett, the attentive host.  The bill of fare was an extensive one and beautiful menu cards were before each guest.

Findlay-McCue—Married, at St. John’s Church, Balderson on the 6th September, by Rev. Spencer D. Hague, B.A., Henry Findlay to Miss Tilley McCue, youngest daughter of Mr. John McCue, all of Balderson.

On Wednesday the house of John McCue was the scene of gaiety and happiness.  The occasion was the marriage of their youngest daughter Tillie McCue to Harry Findlay, a highly respected young man of Balderson.  At 4:00 the wedding party drove to St. John’s Church, Balderson where long before this time a large and admiring crowd had assembled to witness the ceremony which was pleasingly gone through with the knot being securely tied by the incumbent Rev. Mr. Hague.  On the conclusion of the ceremony the party repaired to their carriages, the organ all the while pealing forth the wedding march.  The guests then drove to the house of the bride’s father where all sat down to a sumptuous meal after which games and songs were interspersed with dancing.  The bride was handsomely attired in cream velvet and was assisted by Miss Shillson, Carleton Place who was becomingly dressed in silver gray silk relieved by a crimson bodice and little Miss Mabel Robertson, niece of the bride, acted as a maid of honor and carried a large feather fan in harmony with the dress of the bride.  Mr. Wilson McCue of Carleton Place, brother of the bride, saw the groom through the ordeal.  The presents were many and conspicuously pretty and useful.  A beautiful gold watch was the present of the groom.  When all had thoroughly enjoyed themselves Mr. and Mrs. Findlay drove to their new home carrying with them the best wishes of a host of friends for a pleasant voyage through life.

Balderson:  On Wednesday evening at St. John’s (Episcopal) Church, John McCue gave away in marriage his youngest daughter Tillie to Henry Findlay of Drummond.  After the ceremony a long procession of vehicles containing the guests escorted the happy pair to the residence of the bride’s father where a marriage supper awaited them.

John Ferguson of Montague was married on Tuesday to Miss Scott of Ottawa, the ceremony being performed in that city by Rev. Dr. Armstrong, Presbyterian minister.

Between 8:00 and 9:00 on Wednesday morning last a large number of Perth and Almonte friends assembled at St. John’s Church, to witness the marriage ceremony of Anna McGarry, daughter of Mr. William McGarry of 7th Line Drummond to Mr. M. Grace of Huntley.  After the ceremony was performed the happy couple drove out to the residence of the bride’s parents where dinner awaited them.  When justice had been done to the well supplied table the guests were entertained with some choice selections of music both instrumental and vocal by Miss Teresa McGarry, Miss Grace of Almonte and others.  About 4:00 in the afternoon the wedding party accompanied by several friends and the good wishes of all, left for their new home.  Miss Teresa McGarry, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid while the groom was assisted by his brother J.D. Grace of the “United Canada”, Ottawa.  The presents were numerous and costly which shows the high esteem in which the bride is held.

The gentleman referred to in the following interesting notice taken from the Menominee, Michigan Democrat of the 7th October is a son of Mr. Joshua Bothwell of this town and is a merchant in Menominee.  “The principal social event of the week was the marriage of D. B. Bothwell to Millie Spies, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Spies of this city.  The ceremony was performed on Wednesday evening at the residence of the bride’s parents on Main Street, Rev. John Currer(?) Curren(?), pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating.  Both contracting parties are well known and esteemed in this city, the bride having grown up here from childhood.  Mr. Bothwell is a popular and prosperous merchant of this city and a young man worthy of the fair one of his choice.  They departed the same evening for Chicago and other points.”

James R. Code, barrister, Toronto, brother of Messrs. T.A. and John Code of this town was married on Wednesday to Miss Jennie McGregor of Toronto.

One of the most interesting marriages that has taken place in St. John’s Church for some time was that of George Jackman the popular manager of the Allan House to Miss Lillian Tovey, the charming daughter of the late Edward Tovey, on Tuesday morning last.  The church was filled with friends of the contracting parties.  The bride was given away by her cousin Michael Tovey and the nuptial ceremony was performed by Rev. Father Duffus, pastor.  The bride, who was neatly and elegantly attired in a traveling suit was assisted by her sister Hattie Tovey while John O’Loughlin was the best man.  After the ceremony a recherché wedding dinner was partaken of by the immediate friends and relatives at the residence of the bride’s mother.
