MRS. ELDON IRETON.

On Wednesday evening, October 9, 1974, the people of this community were suddenly reminded of the uncertainty of human life when it became known that Mrs. Eldon Ireton, enroute home about half past five o'clock from a visit with her daughter, had received the inevitable call that, sooner or later, comes to us all. Born October 28, 1913, near Middleville in Lanark Township, Marion Isobel (Somerville) was the eldest daughter in a family of six children to the late J. Lorne Somerville and his wife, the late Ida M. Mather. She received her education in the local school and on June 20, 1935, was united in marriage in the former Zion Congregational Church in Middleville by the Rev. E. D. Snelgrove to John Eldon C. Ireton and they took up residence on the Ireton homestead in Lanark Township, near to the Floating Bridge. To them were born a son Glenn Eldon, (at home) and a daughter Gloria Elizabeth Isobel (Mrs. Gary Affleck, R.R.2, Lanark) A devoted wife and loving mother, a highly esteemed citizen and neighbour, she also gave generously of her time and talents in the interests of the A.C.W. of St. George's Anglican Church, Clayton. and the Union Hall Branch of the Women's Institute with complete forgetfulness of self. She had also recently been appointed a member of the Lanark Township Museum Board. The funeral service was conducted from the Young Funeral Home, Lanark, on Friday, October 11, 1974, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Harry Brown, Rector of St. George's Anglican Church, with the interment in St. George's Cemetery. The Pallbearers were six neighbours; Bert Thompson, Milton Giles, Neil McIntosh, Maynard McIntosh, Gerald Tennant and Don Pease. Besides her sorrowing husband, son and daughter, she is sadly mourned by her son-in-law, Gary Affleck, three grandchildren, Bradley and Shelley Affleck, two brothers and two sisters - John L. Somerville of Middleville, Florence I., Mrs. Arthur C. Bowes, and Blanche, Mrs. Keith Munroe, Lanark. A brother, David, predeceased her in 1922. In addition to a profusion of floral tributes were many "In Memoriams" to the Canadian Cancer Society; The Canadian Institute for the Blind; The Canadian Bible Society; Crippled Children's Fund and the A.C.W. of St. George's Anglican Church.
