Pic of the Past

This week's glimpse at the past features a gathering on the occasion of Millie and Russell Lowe's wedding April 29, 1943. Three couples from the same family celebrated 50th anniversaries at the Pakenham Recreational Centre, Friday evening. Russell and Millie Lowe, left, marked their Golden Anniversary April 29, while Howard and Eleanor Boal, celebrate theirs May 19. Harvey and Alma Giles, right, were married September 4, 1943.

Rhoda and Clifford Drynan, centre, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan 27. J. Edgar Drynan, left, from Smiths Falls was best man at the wedding and Lillian Sweeney, right, of Carleton Place was the maid of honour. Rhoda is originally from the Corkery area where the couple now live and Clifford is from Clayton.

The Silver Cross Mothers from Legion Zone G-6 were given a banquet in their honour on Friday, April 26th, in the Lanark United Church hall. Branch 395 Legion, Lanark, hosted the event with over one Hundred in attendance. There were twenty-four Silver Cross Mothers honoured, three from Almonte seen here with Past President Alf MacPherson. They are Mrs. Badour, Mrs. Stanley and Mrs. Houston.

Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. M. Drynan of Clayton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 3, 1975. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Drynan (the former Myrtle Brydges) were married in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Almonte on May 6, 1925. Mr. and Mrs. Drynan have four married daughters and one son, 20 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. They were honoured by family and friends at a reception held at Clayton Community Hall on May 3rd.

Ivan Hamilton

Runs in path of truck, Almonte boy, 2, killed. Ivan Charles Hamilton, age 2-1/2 years, was killed instantly Tuesday morning when he fell under the wheels of his father's truck while playing near his home. The victim was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Frank Hamilton of R. R. 4, Almonte. Driver of the truck was Keith Drynan, an employee of Mr. Hamilton. According to police, the child's father signalled Drynan to pull through a gateway, and as the truck moved ahead the youngster ran in front of it. Death resulted from a fractured skull. Coroner Dr. Rolf Bach said no inquest would be called. The boy is survived by two brothers and two sisters. OPP Sgt. H. H. Peever and Constable Athol Smith investigated.
