Lester Jamieson Passes.

LESTER JAMIESON

The largely attended funeral service for the late Lester Boyd Jamieson who passed away on Friday, February 14th, 1975, was held on Sunday afternoon, February 16, at Almonte United Church. Mr. Jamieson suffered a heart seizure and passed away a short time later. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Robert McCrea of Almonte United and Rev. Ray Anderson, a former minister of the Almonte Church. Interment was at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. The well-filled church was a fitting tribute to one who had served his church as an elder for some 50 years and as clerk of the session for 35 years. Mr. Jamieson was born in North Dakota on October 23, 1890, and came to Canada as an infant. He was a son of the late Robert Jamieson and his wife, Sarah Dworkin. He received his early education at the school at Hopetown and later learned the art of cheesemaking at Kingston dairy school. He was married at Watson's Corners in 1912 to the former Mary Euphemia McDougall, and for the next 13 years resided in such places as Perth, Prospect, Malakoff and Clayton, following his trade as a cheesemaker. The following 28 years were spent farming on the farm outside of Almonte where his son Boyd now resides. After moving into Almonte, Mr. Jamieson was for three years in the Registry Office, followed by some time in the Almonte Cold Storage plant. In later years, he worked at refurbishing old furniture at the Pinecraft shop. Besides his wife, Mr. Jamieson is survived by a son, Boyd, of Almonte; two daughters, Mrs. Eileen Russell of Kingston, and Mrs. Beryl Riddell, Cardinal; a brother, William, at Hopetown, and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Miller of Timmins and Mrs. Percy Currie of Radisson, Sask. He was predeceased by a son, Lionel. Pallbearers at the funeral were Ross Craig, Larry Command, Weldon Kropp, Wilbert Monette, and nephews Melville Dowdall and Mac Dowdall.

James Turner

James Barber Turner, RR 3 Almonte, died January 31 in the Almonte General Hospital at the age of 89. Mr. Turner was born November 16, 1890 in Ramsay township, the son John Turner and Roseillia Barber. He grew up and lived in Ramsay all his life, working as a farmer. On June 3, 1925, Mr. Turner married Margaret Young Sutherland. He was a member of Almonte United Church. Mr. Turner is survived by his wife, one son, Russell, RR 3 Almonte, and three daughters, Evelyn (Mrs. Bruce Sadler, Carleton Place), Ruth (Mrs. John Steele, RR 1 Ramsay), and Mary (Mrs. Harry Poole, Ottawa), He is also survived by a brother, P. Morris Turner, RR 2, Almonte, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Mr. Turner is predeceased by one brother and five sisters. A public funeral was held February 2, from Kerry's Funeral Home to Almonte United Church. The service was conducted by Reverend Cecil Dodds. Burial took place at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Boyd Jamieson, Glen Robertson, Stuart McDougall, Gordon Turner, Joe Turner, and Roy Lowe. Honorary pallbearers were Ross Craig, Morden Duncan, Norman Paul, Vic Kellough, Howard Sadler and George Gomme.

STANLEY, Annie

In hospital Almonte, Ontario on Monday, January 7, 1985 in her 92nd year, Annie Rath, beloved wife of the late Clifford Stanley. Dear mother of Isabel (Mrs. Gordon Drynan), Keith Stanley both of Almonte, Ontario. Predeceased by 1 son William. Predeceased by 2 sisters Esther (Mrs. John Erskine) and Evyleen (Mrs. Edgar Hudson). ALFRED JAMES

The death of Benjamin Alfred James, prominent dairy farmer of R.R. 2 Almonte, occurred at his home on Tuesday, February 24, 1976. He was 64. Born on the family farm on May 22, 1911, he was a son of the late Alfred James and his wife, Janet Kyle Robertson. Mr. James was a member of St. George's Anglican Church, Clayton; a member of Barron River Hunt Club, and was active in community and church affairs. In earlier years he excelled at sports, especially as a member of the Union Hall Tigers ball team. He was married on August 10, 1946, at St. Mark's Anglican Church, Pakenham, to the former Amy Laura Bourk, who survives. Also Surviving are a son, Alfred, Richard, at home; three daughters, Catherine Anne (Mrs. Donald Cochran), R.R. 1 Almonte; Janet Mary and Pauline Amy, at home, and four sisters, Mabel, (Mrs. William Gardiner), Almonte; Ann (Mrs. Arthur Bach), New Canaan, Connecticut; Laura Mrs. George Rodger), Almonte, and Winnifred (Mrs. John Hammond), Westfield, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by a sister, Major Ella E. James of Woodbury, Connecticut. The body rested at the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte, and was conveyed to St. George's Church, Clayton, on Friday, February 27, where the funeral service was conducted by Rev. Harry Brown. Burial will take place at St. George's Cemetery in the spring. Pallbearers were William Halpenny, Frank James, Keith McMunn, , Maynard McIntosh, Harold James and Bert Thompson.

WILLIAM KEITH McMUNN

The death of William Keith McMunn of R.R. 2, Almonte occurred at the Carleton Place hospital early Tuesday morning, October 30, 1979, following an illness of one year's duration. He was 57. Mr. McMunn farmed at Union Hall and was a member of St. George's Anglican Church, Clayton. He was active in community affairs enjoyed hunting, and was fond of music, playing the violin. Born at Almonte, March 8, 1922, he was a son of the late Thomas Alfred McMunn and his wife, Bertha Robertson. He received his education at Union Hall school. On June 29, 1946, he was married at St. George's Church Clayton, to the former Margaret Caldwell, a teacher at Carambeck Public Schools, Carleton Place. Surviving besides his wife, are one brother, Arnold of Calgary, Alberta, and sisters, Eleanor (Mrs. Herb White), Carleton Place, and Lena (Mrs. Maurice Toole), Toronto. He was predeceased by one sister Ruby (Mrs. Tom Barnes), of Oxford, Ohio. The funeral was held on November 1st from the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place, to St. George's Church, Clayton, for service at 1:30 o'clock, with burial at St. George's Cemetery. The rector, Rev. Roger Young, officiated. Pallbearers were Neil McIntosh, George Currie, Kenneth Penman, Alfred James, Gordon Weir and Liddon Vines.

MURRAY, Michael (Mick) - In hospital, in Almonte, on Friday, August 25th, 1978, Michael (Mick) Murray of Almonte. Beloved husband of the late Agnes Annie Wark and dear father of Mrs. Keith Blakeley (Stella) and Mrs. Keith Stanley (Madeline), both of Almonte; Everette, Mrs. Gordon Robinson (Mary) and Mrs. Alice Bruce all of Arnprior, and Anita of Ottawa. In his 74th year. Rested at the Gamble & Comba Funeral Home, 127 Church Street, Almonte, thence to St. Mary's Church, Almonte, for Celebration of the Eucharist at 2 p.m. Interment Clayton United Cemetery.
HUDSON, Alice Evyleen - In hospital Carleton Place, Ont., on Monday July 3, 1972, Alice Evyleen Rath, beloved wife of the late Edgar Hudson, dear mother of Kenneth, dear grandmother of Gary, Clayton; dear sister of Esther (Mrs., John L. Erskine), Almonte; Annie (Mrs. Clifford Stanley), Clayton; in her 83rd year. MRS. MILDRED M. McKNIGHT - Funeral services were held in St. John's Anglican Church, at Chapleau, with Rev. K. G. Gibbs officiating for Mrs. Mildred May (Rath) McKnight, 79, who passed away December 24th in Lady Minto Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Born at Clayton, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late James and Catherine Rath. She came to Chapleau in 1914 and worked in the offices of Smith and Chapples Ltd. On August 7, 1915, she married the late Charles Coulter McKnight and has resided in Chapleau since. Mrs. McKnight was a member of St. John's Church, a life member and past president and secretary of the Women's Auxiliary and also a charter member of Melda Chapter No. 313 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. A. E. Leigh (Margaret), and a son Keith, both of Chapleau; three sisters, Mrs. Carl Gosbee, St. Pierce, Fla.; Mrs. Fraser McMunn, Oxford Mills; Mrs. Ed. Sadler, Carleton Place; a brother, Mr. Herbert Rath, Clayton; two grandchildren, Clayton of Cartier, Walter of Chapleau and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Kenneth Encil, Kenneth Bowes, Ross Pellow, Ross Broomhead, Boyd Beacock and Len Vaughan. Interment was in the municipal cemetery. Attending from out of town were Mrs. Fraser McMunn, Oxford Mills; Mrs. Ed. Sadler, Carleton Place; Mr. Herbert Rath, Clayton; Mr. Clayton Goodwin, Cartier; Mr. Elmer Rath, Picton; Mr. Robert Timmons, Richmond, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Cochrane.
REBECCA E. PELLETIER

The death occurred at the Perth Hospital on Friday, January 1st, 1971, of Rebecca Elizabeth (Rath) Pelletier, widow of the late Edmund Pelletier, following a short illness. She was 91 years of age. Born at Clayton, Ontario, on July 11, 1879, she was a daughter of the late Henry Rath and Rebecca Foster. She received her education at Clayton. Following her marriage to Mr. Pelletier at the turn of the century, she lived in Montreal until 1929 when they retired to a small farm at Union Hall. In 1951 they moved to Almonte where she was predeceased by Mr. Pelletier on September 20, 1952. She had been a resident of Lanark Lodge for the past three years and was a member of the Anglican Church. She is survived by two brothers, John of London, Ontario, and William of Ottawa. She was predeceased by a brother Tom, and two sisters; Ann, in 1933 and Sarah (Mrs. John McIntosh) in 1966. Mr. and Mrs. Pelletier had no children. Funeral service was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Monday, January 4th, at 2 p.m., Archdeacon John A. Salter officiating. Interment at Auld Kirk Vault with burial in the spring at St. George's Anglican Church Cemetery, Clayton. Acting as pallbearers were Kenneth Robertson, Frank James, Herb Rath, Keith Rath, Gordon McIntosh and Bob McIntosh.

Dr. John Frederick HANLEY, widely known medical practitioner, died very suddenly on Monday afternoon as he stepped from his cutter after returning home from visiting his patients. He was 58 years of age. A graduate of Toronto University, be came to Almonte 34 years ago, and throughout that long period he occupied a prominent position in the community. Besides his wife and widowed mother, he leaves two sons and a daughter, Arthur of New York, Lois of Toronto and Bruce at home. The funeral took place from the family home on Church Street to the Auld Kirk Cemetery.
LALONDE, James Ernest (Ernie) - Following a lengthy illness in hospital at Almonte on Wednesday, February 26, 1986. James Ernest (Ernie) Lalonde. (Of Almonte age 71 years). Beloved husband of Lily Childs and dear father of Mrs. Aki Omae (Carolyn) of Toronto, Mrs. Barbara Lalonde wife of Michael Morrison of Thunder Bay, Mrs. Margaret Crawford and Mrs. Darren Toop) (Joan) both of Ottawa. Dear brother of Clarence of Kingston, Stewart and Mrs. Kathleen McIlravey of Almonte, Carman of Carleton Place and Mrs. Clare Magahey (Ruby) of Toronto. Predeceased by two brother, Boyd and Harvey. Also survived by two grandsons Ellis Toop and Murray Morrison. MICHAEL MURRAY

The death of Michael Murray of Almonte, Ontario, took place in hospital in Almonte on Friday, August 25, 1978. He was in his 74th year. Mr. Murray was born in Fergusons Falls on October 2, 1904, the son of the late William Murray and his wife, the late Agnes McGuire. He worked as a trucker in the Almonte area for many years. Mr. Murray attended St. Mary's Church. He is predeceased by his wife, Agnes Annie Wark. Surviving is a son, Everett of Arnprior, and daughters Stella (Mrs. Keith Blakeley) of Almonte; Madelene (Mrs. Keith Stanley) of Almonte; Mary (Mrs. Gordon Robinson); Alice (Mrs. Bruce) of Arnprior and Anita of Ottawa. Also surviving are brothers Geordie of the French Line and Cecil of Toronto and sister Irene (Mrs. Earl Robertson) of Middleville. The funeral was held from the Gamble and Comba Funeral Home, Almonte on August 26, at 2 p.m. to St. Mary's Church for services. Interment was made in Clayton United Cemetery, Father K. Milaney officiating. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Glen Stanley, Greg Stanley, Terry Murray, Wayne Murray , Robbie Blakeley and Mark Bruce.

CECIL McINTYRE

The sudden death of Cecil Milton McIntyre of 188 Country Street occurred in Almonte on, Monday, October 20th, 1975. He was in his 62nd year. Mr. McIntyre was born on December 26, 1913 in Langham, Saskatchewan, the son of the late John A. McIntyre and the Euphemia Barr. Mr. Mclntyre served from 1940 to 1945 in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War. He farmed in Ramsay township for several years, after which he was employed by Pfizer of Canada in Arnprior for thirteen years. Ill health then forced him into semi-retirement. An avid fan of all sports and very interested in music, Mr. McIntyre was also a member of the Almonte United Church. On July 10, 1943, he married Evelyn Symington in Almonte whom he predeceases. Mrs. McIntyre is an elementary school teacher in Almonte. Surviving are his wife Evelyn, and daughters Wilma Jean Chapman of Ottawa, and Gail Evelyn Colbourne of Bells Corners. Also surviving are brothers; Everton of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; MacPherson of Delisle, Saskatchewan, David of Langley, British Columbia; and sisters Violet Brown of Langham, Saskatchewan, Jean McMillan of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Ada Urquhart of Edmonton, Alberta. Predeceased is one daughter, Gwen Evelyn, who died in infancy. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte, on Thursday, October 23 at 2.00 p.m. with interment in Auld Kirk Cemetery. Rev. Robert J. McCrea officiated. Pallbearers were David Chapman, Douglas Colbourne, Mac McIntyre, Dave McIntyre, Clair Symington, and Wayne Symington. Fellow members of the church session serving as Honourary Pallbearers were Ross Craig, Cecil Turner, George Robertson, John Caldwell, Gordon Anderson and Jim Paul. Flower bearers were Alan Symington, Donald Symington and Ronald Symington.

CLARENCE McGEE

The death of Mr. Clarence Archie McGee, a resident of Fairview Manor, occurred at the Almonte hospital on Monday, November 5, 1979, following a heart attack. He was 63. Born in Darling Township on February 3rd, 1916, he was a son of the late Harry and Bella McGee. He received his education at Hall's Mills school. Mr. McGee was a member of Clayton United Church. He is survived by three brothers and three sisters, Leonard of Carleton Place, Kenneth and Harry of Ferguson's Falls, Isabel (Mrs. Len Curran), Smiths Falls, Pearl (Mrs. Jack Gill), Toronto, and Shirley (Mrs. Jack MacFarlane) of Kingston. The funeral was held from the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place, on Wednesday, November 7, with service in the chapel at 11 a.m., Rev. James White officiating. Burial was at Clayton United Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard MacFarlane, Michael McGee, Bruce Thompson, Fred Gill, Robert Barrett and Bill (Butch) Curran.

ANNIE TEMPLEMAN

The death of Annie H. (Bain) Templeman of 284 St. George St. Almonte, Ontario, occurred suddenly in the Almonte General Hospital on Monday July 17, 1978. Mrs. Templeman was in her 95th year. She was born on November 18, 1883 in Ramsay Township, the daughter of the late Donald Bain and Isabel Ellis. In Lanark on June 15, 1904 she married Robert Templeman who predeceased her in 1955. Mrs. Templeman was a faithful member of the Almonte Presbyterian Church and a life member of the W.M.S. of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. Surviving are three daughters Edna (Mrs. Wm. Gordon), Helen (Mrs. Rollitt Saunders) both of Carleton Place and Marion (Mrs. T. DeCourcy Rayner) of Almonte. She was predeceased by one daughter Eva (Mrs. John Brydges). Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held from the Gamble and Comba funeral home, Almonte, on July 19, 1978 at 2 p.m. Thence to the Auld Kirk cemetery for burial. The Rev. Edward Smith assisted by the Rev. Paul Rumball officiated at the service. The pallbearers were her grandsons, Robert Brydges, Jack Brydges, David Gordon, Gary Saunders, Glenn Saunders and Brian Saunders. Flower bearer was grandson Bill Gordon.

BEN JAMES

Benjamin Edward James passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, February 19, 1973, at the age of 74. Born November 24, 1898, in Lanark Township, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward James and Hannah McNeely. He farmed in the James' settlement in Lanark Township until 1949 and after brief residence, at Appleton and Carleton Place. He lived in Almonte until his death. He was a member of the original Union Hall Tigers baseball team and the Folger Hunt Club. These, along with his association with the Progressive Conservative Party, and, in later years, his hobby of attending auction sales and refinishing furniture were his main interests. He also was a member of Mississippi Lodge No. 147 and Granite Chapter No. 61 Royal Arch Masons. He is survived by his wife, Annie Adella (Rintoul); two sons, Benjamin David of Ottawa and William Haig of R.R. 6, Bowmanville, and one daughter, Jane Ann Elaine (Mrs. John A. Chamney) of Carleton Place, and ten grandchildren; Margaret Ann, Martha Helene, and Elizabeth Jane "Jennie" James of Ottawa, Jennifer Edith Ann, Donald Thomas, Glenn William and Sheila Lynn James of Bowmanville and Lori Ann Lila, Sara Jane and Amy Melissa Chamney. He is also survived by one brother, Edwin M., Carleton Place; one sister, E. Ellen (Mrs. W. H. Connell) of Nassau, Bahamas, and Toronto and was Predeceased by a sister, A. Lillian (Mrs. H. G. Stanley), Carleton Place. A Masonic service was held at the Kerry Funeral Home on Wednesday evening. The funeral service was held in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Almonte, Thursday, February 22, with Archdeacon Salter officiating. Burial was at St. George's Parish cemetery, Clayton, with Pallbearers Alf. James, Mel Gilmour, Wright Mohr, Ivan Gardiner, Henry Stanley and Harold James.

Dear mother of Janice (Mrs. Gordon Shall), Carleton Place; Steven Baird, Scott Bolton and Danny Bolton all of Almonte. Also survived by one grandson Ryan Cody Shail. Dear sister of Donald Baird, Winnipeg; Dolly (Mrs. Mervin McGrath), Almonte; Carol (Mrs. Bob Marks), Smiths Falls and Debbie (Mrs. Doral Munro), Almonte. In her 51st year. Family and friends assembled at the Kerry Funeral Home, 154 Elgin Street, Almonte, on Tuesday September 17th at 1 p.m. for Funeral Service at 2 p.m. Rev. Jack Lougheed officiated. Cremation Pinecrest Crematorium. Interment of Ashes Auld Kirk Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

CARMAN CHALMERS TENNANT

Many friends in and beyond the Kemptville area were saddened to learn of the death of Carman Chalmers Tennant on Saturday August 16, 1975, after a brief illness. Born in Lanark Township, he was the eldest son of the late Joseph Tennant and his wife Elizabeth Richards. He receive his early schooling at S.S.#12 Lanark and Carleton Place High School, later graduating from Kemptville Agriculture College. In 1937 he received his B.S.A degree from the Ontario Agriculture College, Guelph, and for twenty-nine years served in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, 23 of these years as Agricultural Representative in Grenville County. Predeceased in 1970 by Florence E. Woods, he is survived by his wife, Rae Isobel Charlton, his daughter Claire, (Mrs. John Sellar) of Ottawa, his son Colin, wife June and two grandsons Christopher and Jeffery of Belleville, also his two brothers Joseph of Almonte and Robert of Kingston. The body rested at the Rolston Funeral Home, Kemptville where the service was held in the chapel on Monday, August 18 at one o'clock. Pastor Samuel Dempster of Kingston officiated. Interment followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lanark. Pallbearers were William Moore, Jack Woods, Robert Tennant, Gerald Tennant, Allie Martineau and Harold Hamilton. Beautiful floral tributes and numerous donations to the Heart Fund and the Kemptville and District Hospital testified to the esteem in which Carman was held by a wide circle of friends.
