Church Records that have been published

May be available by Inter-Library Loan (ILL); check with your local library. Most are available at Chatham-Kent Public Library, but are reference books, so they cannot leave the library. Available from Kent Co. OGS [$]
  • Primitive Methodist Marriages 1860-1883
  • Early Chatham Presbyterian Marriages 1848-1869
  • Old St Paul's (Anglican), 1829-1841, the "earliest Kent County Anglican records discovered to date." Contains birth, marriage and burial records.
  • Park Street Methodist, 1858-1890

Available at Chatham-Kent Public Library, Chatham directories are available for the years 1876-77, 1882, 1885-86, 1892 and 1900-present. There are also County Directories available.

Local Information

  • Renovations are underway at the Capitol Theater in Chatham. This is a theater built in 1930, which was used as a movie theater. It was scheduled for demolition in 1995. It is a historic building and has been saved, and is now being restored. Follow the above link for more information, or jump to the page on History of the Capitol Theater.

The second Heir and Devisee Commission was responsible hearing and determining claims to land brought forward by the heirs, devisees, or assignees of original nominees.

  • consult the reel or reels of microfilm at the Archives of Ontario in Toronto
  • borrow the reel or reels of film through your local library using Interlibrary Loan
